Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey issued the following statement.
At 4:00pm today, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department will be hosting a press conference to discuss the lawsuit filed by Michael Jenkins & Eddie Terrell Parker. The press conference will be held outside, in front of the sheriff's office; weather pending. If inclement weather develops then we will inside to the conference room.
There will be question & answer portion during the press conference.
Kingfish note: The case settled. U.S. District Judge Daniel P. Jordan, III decreed yesterday:
Jenkins and Parker had sued the defendants for $400 million.
The case settled for $2.5 million. The insurance company paid $2 million and the county paid $500,000.

Cha-ching.
They probably got $40 million each. Bryan Bailey will not personally be out of pocket for anything. The taxpayers of Rankin County will bend over and take it for the next 40 years.
I hope that stain on Rankin county doesn't think this all over now!
So, now we will find out whether this lawsuit (now resolved) is, "... going to bankrupt Rankin County" as declared by many mouth-breathers. LOL!
I bet the county's liability insurance company is paying the vast majority of the settlement with the county's portion of the settlement being a much smaller amount.
Probably not anything even remotely close to that. I'm betting that the settlement will be confidential.
I hope Bryan Bailey is reminded every day that the Goon Squad will be defining legacy, not the footnote, of his tenure as Rankin County Sheriff. It would be far better if he were federally prosecuted for his crimes. But he is probably still too well connected for that to happen.
Keep electing losers. The goon squad was Bailey's deep state enforcement arm, without the white robes.
I'll go with $30 million each. What say y'all?
Hard to say without knowing the details of the evidence and legal advice, but if I was a plaintiff it's pretty unlikely that I would have settled.
hmm did an insurance company pay under liability claim OR does it come out of the individuals pocket?? Guess we will know when it's time for COUNTY Insurance renewal time or they drop them sooner... someone PUBLIC record request that now and in 6 mths.
@3:15 Of course it will be confidential. The settlement is an admission of guilt by the RCSD and Bryan Bailey. He should’ve gone to court and fought with his own fortune (also paid by the taxpayers of Rankin) but Bryan Bailey is a sawed off little coward who literally hides inside his Armored Personnel Carrier and from there, orders the deaths of others.
Coulda given me a little more notice to gather a torch or a pitchfork don't they think?!
THE SHERIFF IS A...
"GONG" (of the church bell)!
My educated guess is that the settlement will probably not be anywhere close to what is being suggested in the previous comments.
2.5mil
We, as Rankin County citizens and taxpayers, want and deserve to know the amount the was settled for. We paid the salaries of the dirty goon squad officers and the dirty Sheriff. If anyone hears/ learns how much this is settled for, please let it be known.
it will be in the millions. likely multimillions. The goon squad were convicted. The only reason to settle with the RCSD is to get a lot of money, really fast. Because the sheriff and his office has everything to lose. They’ve literally already lost. Plus you wont find a jury in the state of Mississippi who hasn’t read the story about the prisoner labor at Mama’s Chicken Farm.
Read the post - the case settled for $2.5 Million. An insurance company paid $2M and Rankin county put in $500,000. The victims did not get $30 or $40M each, but they deserve that amount in my opinion. They were tortured, one was shot, and he would have been raped by a sex toy if he did not S**T his pants causing the goons to stop.
$2.5 million .... with $2 million of that coming from the insurance company and the county chipping in 20% of the settlement amount. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL !!!!!!!
Great job by the county's defense lawyers. They worked that out-of-state race baiter, Malik Shabbazz, like the chump he is.
Sounds like they got screwed again. By the time the lawyers get their share they will not even have a million.
LMAO! 2.5 million! They will not even get close to a million after the lawyers get their cut! Them boys are going to have them a brand new hell cat in the drive way soon and the rest will be blown before Jan 1 2026.
Is there something wrong with the commenters here? An inability to read; or is it to comprehend; or is it that like so many folks now on social media have been spoiled into reading what they want to and ignoring what's right in front of them.
No, the settlement is not going to bankrupt Rankin County: probably got $40 million each; no not even close to that; taxpayers will bend over and take it for 40 years; educated guess is probably not anywhere close; I'll go with $30 million each...........................
The post says, and I quote (almost): Settled for $2.5 million. Insurance paid $2million, Rankin County paid $500k.
Reading is fun; it can be educational. Try it some time.
$2.5 million settlement with Rankin County only paying $500k
IF THIS PAIR GOT 2.4 mil they lucky . between intentional tort exclusions by insurance companies and qualified immunity courtesy of the courts they were lucky to get what they got.
its just ashamed that they could not at get brian baileys retirement account or his personal assets. bailey doesn't care, he didn't part with a nickel.
How will they invest the new money? Land, Rental Properties, CDs, Artwork, Dodge Chargers, or Crack Rock?
Settlement: $2.5 million total. $400 million vs $2.5 million - chump change.
Has the statute of limitations run so there are no additional claims yet to be filed?
Or not?
Even a paltry $2.5 million might be real money to some people in Rankin.
One word describes that lawyer, "smug"! He acts like taxpayers still aren't having to pay this!?
Welp, anyway, I'll bet one lawyer is about to make one hell of a payday.
That's a lot of gold chains and some Hellcats.
What chumps. They blinked and will be receiving chump change.
Speaking of church, look in The Pointe for the rest of the story
Dismissed with prejudice so this case is over and done no other claims regardless of SoL
I do not have television and was not able to watch news coverage of this. Did Sheriff Bryan Bailey attend this announcement, or is he still hiding behind others, refusing to take any responsibility in this whole sickening saga that has occurred under his watch, by his department?
The intentional acts exclusion does not mean the County wouldn't be liable. Just no insurance coverage. I also suspect that the County had coverage for these types of intentional civil rights violation claims.
I don't see qualified immunity applying under these most egregious facts.
My two cents: the Plaintiffs settled very cheaply. I am shocked at the $2.5MM number. Victory to the defense lawyers.
Serious question: $2.5M each or $2.5M total paid out?
Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."
Total, as penned above.
It is a “global settlement” meaning that both claims were resolved for a total of $2.5 million.
Macy, How many multi-million dollar verdicts have you seen from Rankin County juries?
Rankin County Mississippi is not LA or New York, or wherever else people collect 10s of millions of dollars for police brutality.
As for many of the other comments, I agree with 4:31. This post has attracted a bunch of dumb-asses.
Can you people not read?? Jeezus.....$2.5MM
to 6;57 ..this would not have been a rankin county jury.
this case was in federal court court.
the jury would have been drawn from the southern district of MS. Jackson division.
to 5:56...oh....you handing out ''victories''?
well then strap this one on.
pretty easy to second guess now.
you dont know much about the legal system do you?
as dusty rhodes , the pro wrester would say......''its always a long long way to the pay window'''.........in mississippi where politics and graft control the legal systems , a whole lot can happen between now and a jury verdict.
And once again, an inexperienced Young Macy voluntary exposes his ignorance in large insurance disputes. A clear lack of long-term experience of how things work in the big leagues. For the record, plaintiffs should haven gotten more.
I'd rather have gone to a jury and gotten zero than take $2.5m. If Rankin County zeroed these plaintiffs out, that would have confirmed how racist the county is.
True, they got screwed again. Let's say if the attorney get 40%, they will have 1.5 million left to split. In this case they would get $750,000 a piece. Chump change for what they went through.
@9:35 - seems like a pretty risky move for his clients’ health. You think Rankin County wouldn’t retaliate against them further? Why?
So insurance pays $2m and the sheriffs office pays $500k from their budget. How is a sheriffs office able to have an extra $500K laying around. You know the good sheriff isn’t taking a pay cut. We’re about to see the real life sequel to Training Day.
Thanks 8:50. I stand corrected on my comment about Rankin County juries.
I stand by my prior statement about this post attracting dumb-asses.
-6:57
No matter if a jury had it or not Tort reform was put in because of these huge payoffs. There are caps in MS period good & bad for injured person on both sides.
Federal court, not state court.
And they'll both be broke or dead from their lifestyle within a coupleyears if not sooner
That money will be gone in no time. Rodney King got $3.8 million and his family had to beg for donations for his funeral expenses when he died at 47.
Stop electing single male, redneck playboys Rankin County please !!
Rodney gave that money to charity. (Charity was his dealer).
comments have exceeded the JJ gold standard of 50.
nothing gets the niknars more excited than when a little money flows .
Plaintiff got the full limits of the insurance policy. The only money left would be from Rankin County, and maybe the individuals themselves. At least that's how I read it.
you know them?
Bryan Bailey doesn't give a crap. He doesn't have to pay a dime plus as we all know he gets free trusty labor for that chicken farm to make more money.
The RCSO is an embarrassment
And Rankin County won’t learn a thing and will still be as racist as ever. Change is hard.
More than likely got the total pay from insurance company. Much like a car wreck, you only get what the cap is.
“The only thing needed for the triumph of evil, is that good men do nothing.” The “good” leaders of Rankin County should be ashamed of how they have looked the other way as to how Sheriff Bryan Bailey has abused and misused his position. I ask you” leaders”, look in the mirror and be honest with yourselves. Have you done the right thing? When you lay down to sleep each night, are eyeing proud of yourself, or ashamed for not doing the right thing. Can you live at peace with yourself?
Regardless, that is more money than either would have EVER seen in their lifetime after legal and productive work. My guess is that since neither are stellar pillars of the community, it will be spent soon and irresponsibly.
Everyone settle the hell down, especially you May 1, 2025 at 4:33, KF's original post did not include the settlement amount because it was not yet known, his original post was BEFORE the news conference, which is when the amount was actually shared with the public, and he went back in and added the settlement amount (thank you, KF!)...those of us who are smart enough to know that, we will wait on the rest of you to catch up...not really, I have better things to do at this point.
Do only”stellar pillars” of the community deserve to not be tortured, beat, repeatedly tased, humiliated, SHOT! Those deputies chose to be jury, judge and executioners and, as admitted by Christian Dedmon, they did these type of missions almost weakly for years. Whatever loyalty the deputies had to Bailey is gone now, as he turned his back on them. They covered for him, he covered for them until they went too far and couldn’t cover for the acts of that night. The deputies have no reason not to tell it all now, and I believe the whole truth will eventually come to light.
2:15 you nailed it sir. Brett, now that he has lost his appeal, will be the next to spill the tea!
And I still can’t figure how the Sheriff’s Department justifies buying a skid steer w/ a mulching attachment from department money. Approximately $90,000. Just a mystery to me.
What is really fucked up is that bitch Bailey could ruin my small business using nothing more than phone calls full of innuendos to my boss. He can literally be exposed by the NYT and MS Today and keep his job. I pray God will smite him in the most painful way.
bunch of rankin county rednecks suffering from L D S............Lawsuit derangement syndrome.
What a travesty that the judge would allow Rankin County to skate with $2.5 million judgement & the men’s attorney agree to such a small settlement- probably so the attorney could collect $1 million or more. This is why the public doesn’t approve of our court system. This is a true injustice. And I hope the men can sue individually each officer.
6:16......talk like a unlicensed jailhouse lawyer or a writ writer at MDOC. does the warden know you on the net?
the judge has nothing to do with allowing or disallowing a settlement by the parties.
this is business and ''probably'' is not a part of this.
these 2 plaintiffs are adults , not minors. they decided on their choice of lawyer, signed a contract and knew exactly what the deal was going in.
you really should go home to your mother.
Yet they pay one Dallas football player $60,000,000/year to play football. What a world, what a world…
The racism in these comments is just stellar...
