AG tried to play prosecution and defense
Attorney General Lynn Fitch appointed 12 Circuit District Attorney Lin Carter to prosecute Capitol Police officer Michael Rhinewalt and former Capitol Police officer Jeffery Walker for aggravated assault.
Capitol Police officers Jeffrey Walker and Michael Rhinewalt arrested Sinatra Jordan on August 14, 2022 for felony fleeing, marijuana possession, and aggravated assault that took place during a traffic stop. A Hinds County grand jury indicted Jordan for felony fleeing and two counts of aggravating assault, alleging he shot at Rhinewalt and Walker. The case is still pending in Hinds County Circuit Court and is assigned to Judge Debra Gibbs.
One of the officers allegedly shot passenger Sherita Harris in the head. She was hospitalized for four days. Harris sued the two officers and the Mississippi Department of Public Safety for $3 million in federal court. The case is assigned to U.S. District Judge Kristi Johnson. She dismissed DPS from the lawsuit. Earlier post with copy of complaint
General Fitch represented the two officers in the civil lawsuit for over a year. However, her office obtained indictments against them for aggravated assault in Hinds County. Rhinewalt and Parker cried foul, arguing in a motion to disqualify counsel that General Fitch's lawyers could not represent them for over a year in litigation in a lawyer-client relationship and then switch sides to prosecute them.
Hinds County Circuit Judge Adrienne Whooten agreed and ordered General Fitch to appoint a special prosecutor as she kicked her office off the case. General Fitch appointed such a prosecutor today:
Update: General Fitch's Deputy Attorney General is Lindsay Cranford. One of Mr. Carter's Assistant District Attorneys is her husband, Clay Cranford.
Kingfish note: Now let the games begin.

Interesting that the conflict of the AG's office doesn't transfer to a special prosecutor appointed by the AG's office.
Lynn finally looked up "conflict of interest."
The AG probably thinks that's not her problem going forward.
There's the matter of the evidence obtained from the AG's defense of the people the AG indicted.
That's probably one of Lin Carter's problems now.
Can Carter resubmit to grand jury to cure defects?
How does this not end up being the subject of appellate decisions about the admissibility of evidence even with a new indictment? Even presuming Carter attempts to parallel construct an investigation from zero?
Lynn Fitch's actions in this case could possibly be headed to the MS Supreme Court unless DA Carter doesn't proceed with the prosecution.
1:58 gets it right. the judge should be the one appointing the special prosecutor.
this case should be totally cleansed of fitch , all the was down to her chanel number 5.
Lynn tries harder to prove her absence of worth every time her name comes up.
As usual Fitch is on the cutting edge of jurisprudence.
Lynn needs to retire at the earliest opportunity.
Because of police officers like this one it causes the public not to trust law enforcement
how can a conflicted AG appoint anyone? I'm conflicted
1. Lumumba goes berserk realizing his hog-trough PERS career has ended. Appoints racist look-alikes and rifles through the various city vaults.
2. Lynn realizes the same.
