The Louisiana Supreme Court disbarred New Orleans attorney Ashton O'Dwyer. Mr. O'Dwyer was a favorite target, I mean topic, over at NMC's blog when he was still alive. JJ would be remiss in not honoring NMC by posting this decision. It's rather entertaining but then again, the subject is Ashton O'Dwyer. An online food fight has developed over Bill Minor's legacy. The noted journalist and columnist died earlier this week at the age of 94. Accolades were thrown his way as many honored him. The Clarion-Ledger's Jerry Mitchell called him a "model of journalism" and remembered his life:

Senator Harkins stands up to the good ole boys or.... The A.G. strikes out.
State Senator Josh Harkins just taught Jim Hood and the Mayor of Bay St. Louis that the old proverb "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again" is still true. The Attorney General and controversial Mayor teamed up to gut a "good government" Harkins bill that was passed by the legislature a year ago. The bill banned cities from paying the salaries of all interim municipal appointments after six months. It would fix the problem of Mayors tagging their appointments as "interim" so they could avoid confirmation votes. However, Mayor Les Fillingame went whining to the A.G. and Mr. Hood was more than happy to help him. Their shenanigans did not go unnoticed and Senator Harkins got a stronger bill passed and signed into law this week that put the two officials in their place.

It is becoming too much of a familiar story in Hinds County. Hoodlum
commits crime. Police does its job and catches him. Hoodlum stays in
prison for a year or two. He gets back out on the street and terrorizes
the community some more until he is locked up again. The case of Denarious Watts is

Will Vidal Sullivan's probation get revoked?
Vidal Sullivan was on probation when he was arrested and indicted for armed robbery. He was convicted of aggravated assault in 2006 and sentenced to serve ten years in prison. However, he was released from prison on November 15, 2012 to serve probation for three years. However, Sullivan stopped reporting to his probation officer, thus "stopping the clock" on his probation sentence. He has approximately four years of his prison sentence to serve if his probation is revoked.

Beer sales coming to Tiger Stadium
Funny how economics changes things. LSU is "working aggressively" to bring beer sales to Death Valley. The Baton Rouge Business Report reported today:
TIGER projects cost was always over $35 million.
The TIGER grant projects will cost $38.5 million and thus eat up nearly half of a proposed $80 million loan. The grant will fund a desperately needed improvement for North State Street from Sheppard to Hartfield. However, the grant will also fund the extension of West County Line Road from its current east end to North State Street. The extension will cross a railroad so the grant will also pay for the construction of an overpass for the railroad line. Jackson officials cite the cost of these two projects as the main reason for borrowing $90 million against the 1% sales tax revenue. Some officials claimed the cost of the projects doubled but the original grant applications say otherwise.

The court fight between Jackson Mayor Tony Yarber and his former executive assistant took another turn last week. U.S. District Judge Daniel P. Jordan, III threw out Mayor Yarber's lawsuit against Kimberly Bracey. Mrs. Bracey sued the Mayor and city of Jackson in August and made several salacious allegations.

The Gutter Punks
The Gutter Punks of New Orleans. They look so homeless as well as disgusting. It seems more and more of them are popping up like mushrooms. They sprawl out on the sidewalks with their dogs, look and smell as if they haven't had a shower in weeks, and beg for money. A homeless crisis of sorts, right? Guess again. They are called Gutter Punks for a reason because they are anything but homeless. It's an adventure for many of them. Check out this picture taken in front of a French Quarter hotel:
Vidal Sullivan is back in jail.
One of Frank's favorites is back in jail. A Hinds County grand jury indicted Vidal Sullivan for armed robbery and felon in possession of a firearm in on February 23. His bond was set at $300,000. The case is assigned to Circuit Judge Jeff Weill.

Attorney Carlos Moore and his client, Yvette Mason-Sherman, altered some key facts in the lawsuit they filed against Wayne Parish in Hinds County Circuit Court. Mason-Sherman sued Wayne Parish, his business partner Jimmy Ratcliff, and Performance Oil for wrongful death in the death of her son. Parish shot and killed 17 year-old Charles McDonald, Jr. during a struggle over a gun at Performance Oil on McDowell Road on July 21, 2016. A Hinds County grand jury indicted him for first degree murder in October. He is free on a $50,000 bond.

The media was all agog over the arrest of 1998 Mississippi Melinda King Sanders. One must forgive them as they tend to go rabid when they think they see a pageant queen fallen from grace. Sanders was arrested on March 2 for credit card fraud. The media had a field day reporting the arrest and posting the mug shot. The arrest generated no small amount of interest on social media as well. However, part of the ordeal ended for Sanders when the charges were dismissed yesterday in Flora Municipal Court. However, as Paul Harvey would say, there is a Rest of the story.

Hambrick killer tries to blame victim.
More details about the murder of Eric Hambrick emerged last week when a transcript of his killer's sentencing was released. Arkel Coleman pleaded guilty to manslaughter in November after he was indicted for first degree murder in Hambrick's death. Hambrick was a MEMA employee and a fixture in the Mississippi Opera and First Baptist Church choir. Coleman claimed that Hambrick asked him to trade sex for money. He said he hit him in response to the alleged proposition.

Hinds County thief Lashaun Hudson is apparently having a good ole time in the Marshall County Correctional Facility. Hudson was convicted in 2014 of several counts of burglary larceny of an unoccupied dwelling and receiving stolen property. Rudy sues CMU for $6.3 million.
Madison County Engineer Rudy Warnock sued Canton Municipal Utilities for $6.3 million in U.S. District Court on March 9. Mr. Warnock claims that CMU breached three contracts it entered into with him in 2016. CMU hired Mr. Warnock as its sole engineer in August but terminated him a few months later.
Judge Green curseth the Blessed
Hinds County Circuit Judge Tomie Green sent Blessed Adams back to prison last Thursday. Ridgeland police arrested him in January for strong-armed robbery, possession of marijuana, failure to yield to the police, and simple assault after he maced a clerk and then stole money from Old Canton Liquor and Wine. Ridgeland Police Chief John Neal called him a "serial robber".

Mumps infections continue to rise.
Mumps is on the rise. LSU issued a warning last week after five students became infected with the contagious disease. Arkansas reported 300 cases in the last two months. Mr. Hambrick was an employee at MEMA. He was a talented singer as he performed in the Mississippi Opera and in the choir at First Baptist Church (Jackson). He attended Thursday night choir practice on May 28, 2015. He unfortunately stopped at the Waffle House on High Street at 10:30 PM. The 19 year-old Arkel Coleman thought the 52 year-old man would be easy prey and beat him with his fists. Mr. Hambrick fell to the ground and sustained more injuries when his head violently struck the pavement. His family removed him from life support a few days later. Arkel Coleman and his accomplice, Sherderwick Anderson, removed a ring that they fancied from a dying Eric Hembrick's finger. Police arrested the pair within a few days.

Court rules Patrick Kelly must pay $100,000 for pocketing employee's child support payments
Hinds County Chancellor Denise Sweet Owens hit Patrick Kelly for $100,000 in punitive damages for taking an employee's wages that were garnished for child support. Mr. Kelly is the owner of the defunct Mint and Julep's restaurants. The nutshell version is that Mr. Kelly kept most of the garnishment for himself and only sent a pittance to the Mississippi Department of Human Services.
Vote on Rankin County school bond issue today
Rankin County residents will vote on a $178.5 million school bond issue today. The Rankin County School District has been plagued by overcrowding for quite some time. A $169 million bond referendum failed five years ago amid much criticism for dedicating 10% of the proceeds towards athletic facilities. New RCSD Superintendent Dr. Sue Townsend said the district learned from that failure and tried to propose a bond issue that reflected the true needs of Rankin County students.

It seems there are going to be some actual races in Madison elections this year. The Queen faces challenges from the Bag Boy and the Brown Bag while four of the seven aldermen have opponents as well. The list is posted below.

Suspended sentence for Ben Allen
The sentencing for Ben Allen took place today before Judge Winston Kidd. He was convicted last month of one count of embezzling from his employer, Downtown Jackson Partners. Judge Kidd sentenced him to serve five years in prison but suspended the entire sentence. Mr. Allen is placed on probation for two years.
Mr. Allen submitted this statement to the court:

Stonewall at Stonebridge
A battle over the Stonebridge Public Improvement District is taking place in Hinds County Chancery Court between Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann, a bank, and the Stonebridge developer. The Secretary of State took possession of 58 Stonebridge parcels after the taxes and assessments were not paid.* Mr. Hosemann attempted to negotiate a settlement between the state, Rankin County, and the bondholders. However, the original developer argued its rights were violated and asked the Chancellor to cancel the settlement.

The Jackson 1% Sales Tax Commission approved a master plan Wednesday but not before the meeting exploded several times as Commissioners argued with Mayor Tony Yarber and his appointees. The Mayor was surprised when Ted Duckworth submitted a master plan to the commission. A furious debate ensued over whether the commissioners could submit their own master plan and what exactly is a master plan. Get a drink and some popcorn. Temple killer gets life without parole
Hinds County Circuit Judge Jeff Weill sentenced Gerome Moore to life without parole for the murder of Carolyn Temple yesterday. A jury convicted him of capital murder three months ago. Enough said about this scumbag and his mother. The sentencing order and a video showing her morals on display are posted below. Thank goodness some justice was served in this case although Ms. Temple's murder wiped out her loved ones as her daughter and boyfriend died within fifteen months after her death.

Civic leaders stand up for Ben Allen
76 people stood up for Ben Allen and asked Judge Winston Kidd to show mercy at his sentencing on March 8. Mr. Allen submitted a biography and a stack of letters in support of him to Judge Winston Kidd earlier this week. Mr. Allen was convicted of one count of embezzlement from Downtown Jackson Partners. Mr. Allen is the Executive Director of the non-profit organization. The letters and the sentencing memo are posted below.

Judge Tomie Green's blessing turns into a curse
A thug turned loose by Hinds County Circuit Judge Tomie Green was arrested last month for carjacking in Jackson. Judge Green suspended the prison sentences for Sentobia Paige's armed robbery and auto burglary convictions in November after he completed the RID program. Paige was so upset that he missed his chance to party at Parchman that he allegedly carjacked some poor victim on February 17.

The mother of a Madison County teen who committed suicide last year says law enforcement is trying to kill the "Rivers McGraw bill". Young Rivers McGraw was arrested for a dui and was bailed out by a friend in Oxford. He took his own life shortly after his release. His mother has been promoting a bill that would keep minors in jail longer until a parent is notified if they are arrested for a DUI. Lauren McGraw stated:
