CBS is kicking WJTV to the curb.  The Desk.net reported: 

 Conspiracy theories and race-baiting about the Nolan Wells case raged on social media after the Wells family and attorney Benjamin Crump released the preliminary results of their autopsy earlier this week.  Forensic scientist Dr. Amy Santoro provided a sober analysis of the preliminary autopsy and spoke some much-needed sense about the whole thing.  

 Entergy cut off power to an apartment complex in South Jackson after it discovered meter tampering occurred.  Residents called WLBT's 3 On Your Side for help but once WLBT started digging, the plot thickened.  WLBT reported:

  Carlos Moore is trying to get his law license back after the Mississippi Supreme Court suspended it for one year in January 2025.  The Court revoked his license after he botched the settlement of a wrongful death lawsuit . 

An Alcorn State University professor busted his students in one class for cheating with AI.  Suspecting his students were misusing AI, Dr. Jason Gibson added a little trap to the mid-term exam that ensured 32 of 35 students.   The dummies didn't even read what they submitted and were justly rewarded for their lack of effort.  Watch his short explanation of what happened.  We need more professors like him.

A Pass Christian family moved one step closer to obtaining justice from Jones Community College after a Circuit Judge denied the college's motion for summary judgment.  A mother sued the college after her 14 year-old son after her son was tortured and abused at a summer soccer camp.   The child suffered sucker punches, forcible stripping, the pouring of semen on his face, the sharing it all on social media, and other abuse.   Much more information in earlier post.

 Jushun "Red" Paige will stay put in jail for a while after Hinds County Court Judge Johnny McDaniels denied bond yesterday.  The Capitol Police arrested Paige in June for auto burglary.  Paige and his friends participated in the murder of Chelsae Kirschten in 2017 but managed to escape justice.

The Mississippi Parole Board never fails to disappoint.  Remember that guy who pleaded guilty to ripping off day care centers and churches by selling them fire suppression systems that didn't work?  He pleaded guilty in February and was sentenced to serve seven years in prison.  However, under Parole Board math, that means he was released last week.

 The Mississippi Legislature’s special session decision to overhaul the state’s youth court system is already drawing fire from critics. Still, the state’s taxpayers should count the vote to open the youth court process as a win for transparency, institutional pragmatism, and public safety.

 Here are the "C" ratings for Jackson metro area restaurants issued since April 1, 2026.  The Mississippi Department of Health inspects and grades each restaurant.  The department inspects the restaurant again within ten days after the "C" is issued.  More information can be obtained at the MSDH restaurant inspection web page.

The Capitol Police issued the following statement. 

 Jackson City Councilwoman Tina Clay said the city is not operating at a deficit at a meeting of the Finance Committee last week.  Ms. Clay is Chairwoman of the committee. Jackson Mayor John Horhn warned the City Council last week the city was facing a $23 million deficit. 

The light Cal-Maine settlement in a price-fixing case was not an anomaly as the Trump Justice Department is backing away from prosecuting corporate crime.  The Wall Street Journal reported: 

U.S. District Judge Wingate is holding a hearing at 1:30 today on how data centers might affect Jackson's water supply. The learned jurist apparently saw WLBT's reporting on how the Horhn administration is considering allowing the construction of a data center at the Lake Hico site and couldn't resist the opportunity to do some micromanaging.  

The 2008 subprime crisis caused the U.S. to rescue financial institutions deemed too big to fail. The cost was socialized on taxpayers.  A lookalike crisis is brewing in Mississippi. Its cost may fall on Entergy’s residential customers.

Well, a wee bit of price-fixing might have had something to do with it.  The Justice Department announced Ridgeland's Cal-Maine and three other egg producers settled price fixing charges. Cal-Maine must pay $1.5 million to several states and donate 30 million eggs to various non-profit organizations.  However, the founding family members of Cal-Maine sold stock for $320 million after learning of the federal probe. 

 The Jackson City Council passed a 183-day moratorium on the construction of data centers this morning on a vote of 5-2.  Councilmen Ashby Foote and Vernon Hartley voted against the measure.

The Supreme Court’s 6–3 ruling to undo the 90-year-old Humphrey’s Executor case has undermined the purpose of independent commissions. The court ruled President Trump may fire Senate approved members of the Federal Trade Commission before their terms expire. Humphrey’s Executor, a 1935 ruling, and related statutes, had allowed Congress to create independent agencies to mitigate political interference.

 Will National Credit Union Administration Board seize family cats? 

A federal judge froze all assets and accounts belonging to Leigh and Chad Bridges in the Jackson Area Federal Credit Union scandal.  Leigh was the President of JAFCU until she was fired earlier this year when the National Credit Union Administration Board uncovered an alleged embezzlement of up to $95 million.  The Bridges allegedly used the funds to purchase a Steinway piano, $10,000 handbags, multiple homes in Eastover and on the beach, and expensive jewelry.

 Singing patriotic hymns together in church stirred the emotions and memories of the congregation last Sunday. What a great time of unity, of oneness, of being a part of something bigger than our own little worlds! Older folks sang harmoniously from memory alongside younger generations and little children.

 JPD Chief Rashall Brackney said a stolen JPD short-barrel rifle was used in the triple homicide that took place last week in Jackson at a press conference today.
