The CCID Court survived the NAACP's emergency attempt to block its creation in federal court today.  The NAACP filed the motion yesterday even though U.S. District Judge Henry Wingate promised to rule on a similar motion before the end of the year.

 JJ reported yesterday Grenada attorney Carlos Moore sued the Capitol Police and Capitol Police officer Mike Maldonado for allegedly shooting his client, Sherita Harris, in the head during a traffic stop on August 14, 2022.  Harris asked for $3 million in damages. However, did Moore and his client sue the wrong guy?

Everyone has a favorite holiday. Many of my friends are partial to Halloween. They have fond memories of trick-or-treating through the neighborhoods of their youth and still dress in costume every time October 31st rolls around. Governor Tate Reeves issued the following statement. Governor Tate Reeves has appointed the Honorable James Kent McDaniel of Brandon to fill the vacancy in the Office of County Court Judge for Rankin County, Place 2, until such position is filled by special election. Additionally, Governor Reeves issued a writ of election declaring that a special election will be held on November 5, 2024, to fill the vacancy.

Phillip Crechale will not go to prison after he was arrested for domestic violence last year.  A Hinds County grand jury indicted Philip Crechale in March for aggravated domestic assault.   The indictment charges:

Judge Johnny McDaniels postponed Derrick Coleman's trial to December 7 in Hinds County Court.  Coleman is appealing a conviction for violating a no-contact order against his wife, Latasha. She has been missing since July 18.  A continuance is not unusual, especially in Hinds County. What is unusual is the Court  issued the continuance in the middle of Coleman's November 29 trial when it learned the prosecution and defense intended to present video evidence even though the videos were not provided to opposing counsel.

Flowood Police arrested former Laurelwood HOA President Emary Walker for embezzlement and possession of a controlled substances. 

Many years ago at a high school graduation ceremony, four seniors selected by their classmates delivered speeches for the occasion. Each speech would revolve around a popular song. One of the students chose “The Sound of Silence” written by Paul Simon and performed by Simon and his partner Art Garfunkel in the mid-1960s.

The New York Times and Jerry Mitchell published a blockbuster story yesterday reporting 20 years of abuse by the narc unit in the Rankin County Sheriff's Office.  However, a document that appears to be an internal memo from the Times or Mississippi Today floated around town for a few days prior to the story's publication.  The 27-page memo states each case reported in the story as well as the supporting evidence.  The memo is posted below.
