Kent McDaniel is one of the finest humans and best jurists in Mississippi. I'm glad he is continuing to serve. Well done.
Kent is one of the good ones !
Tate gonna Tate. Nothing against McDaniel, but Tater has set a pattern of appointments with elections being set almost a year later...establishing incumbency, for whatever that's worth.
Is anybody reminded of how Wicker and Hyde-Smith got in their current office?
Tate gonna Bryant gonna Haley.
Served with Kent many years ago in the MS National Guard. A fine selection. I wish him the best.
12:51 - glad to have you show your ignorance by posting on this site.
The Governor, who you say is going to Tate, set this special election just as he set the others for vacant Judgships a few weeks ago, in accordance with state law.
There is a statute that states that in cases like this, an election to fill the vacancy will be done ON THE SPECIAL ELECTION DATE - which in years where there is a General Election (which 2024 is) - the special election date is the date of the General Election.
So yes. Tate did state that the Special Election to fill this vacancy will be late in 2024. AS THE LAW REQUIRED HIM TO DO.
Go back to munching on your Cheetos and leave the heavy lifting on matters such as this to others. Your attempt to take a swipe at Tate Reeves failed completely
Wasn't McDaniel the judge that signed the communications warrants against the Sheriff's girl friend? Seems maybe not such a good appointment.

You really don’t understand stuff.
I’d bet a dollar to a donut that Kent — who served as a youth court judge before, prior to the Legislature’s funding of a full-time spot — told the Governor he’d do this for a year, tops.
I don’t think Kent was ever opposed for election as a County Court judge; he was certainly never defeated. I doubt he needs the position now.
12:51, why would McDaniel want to run for election for youth court judge after having served 24 years before stepping down as county judge? Think about it. He retired and agreed to come back and serve until the election at the request of the Governor. He is doing this as a public service because he was asked. He will not be a candidate for the position.
@2:39pm - Are you saying that a judge isn’t a good judge if they sign warrants against law enforcement presented to them by law enforcement?
Are you stupid?
Judge Mac has always been a consummate public servant.
I’ve known Kent for 45 years. I challenge you to find a better man. We should thank him for taking this on for a year. We should be very glad to have a governor with such good judgment and wisdom to get Kent to accept this task. Good for us all
4:22, not stupid nor blind. To the contrary. The question is did he do his job or just blank check a rogue sheriff. That's a fair question to ask. D.A. Guest figured it out, so there was some evidence these were crap. Warrants that infringe upon rights to privacy should be subject to more judicial prudence than just signing checks for a buddy. The evidence was apparently there as Guest discovered. Are you stupid? Blind trust is what allowed the Goon Squad to exists for as long as it did.
I dare say none ever any better than Judge Kent McDaniel && Judge Thomas Broome in Rankin County.

Agreed , spot on!

There was no "warrant" issued for phone records. There was a Grand Jury Subpoena. Therefore the Judge doesn't see nor sign it. It is issued by either the DA's Office or the Circuit Clerks office. The Judge wouldn't have any knowledge of it. Judge McDaniel absolutely reads, evaluates, and corrects any legal documents presented before him for his signature. He is a very honorable servant.
