Jackson City Council President Aaron Banks and Chief of Staff Safiya Omari (Ph.D) squared off yesterday at a special meeting over the Jackson City Council over ....wait for it..... the $600 million in federal aid for Jackon's water system.
President Banks said "Let's call it what it is" as he said the Jackson water system was in "receivership" as he called Ted Henifin "the receiver." Ms. Omari took strong exception to his words as she vehemently said the Mayor and Congressional delegation obtained the federal aid.
Start at 36:15. Mr. Banks said the city is in receivership and the Chief of Staff immediately starts waving her hand to be recognized to speak.

I wish all of this political nonsense would cease and conversations/decisions centered around what was best for the residents of the city.
Why is this so difficult?
If your job is to represent the people, you should occasionally represent the people
taking credit for something they didn't do.... as usual.
I love situations like the failure of the city to replace broken red lights and the Mayor does the Texas two-step all around the problem with every imaginable excuse except for the truth, which is "The city is broke and doesn't have even enough money to fix a broken streetlight.
I’d do the Mayors bidding for $100,000 + salary a year, free cocktails and food from Char. Right!
Jackistan is a dump and as long as this leadership is in charge it will remain a Dump.
Ms.Omari must be the person responsible for putting the actual lipstick on the pig.
Ol' Bennie has been taking credit for the federal money also.
There should be 10% for each of the "big guys," right?
She says that they (mayor and congressional delegation) made the case that Jackson water was in dire circumstances and obtained the 600 million as a result of their efforts. Did they also make the case that they (mayor's administration) were not competent to use the money to fix the system? Obviously the outlay of federal money required someone else to administer it. Hence a receiver, bossman, supervisor, caretaker, custodian, or whatever. She's part of a regime living on bullshit so titles are more important than facts. She knows her job.
"Dr" Omari doesn't even live in Hinds County - Ridgeland.
Sista Rukia - pay your taxes, scoflaw!
3:57.....You nailed it!!!!!
Interesting! But kinda wondering if that $450M will actually get here? Is it guaranteed? Don’t think so. Might have to survive on $150M.
She's a staffer; as Stokes truthfully said months back -- I have the quote close enough for government work -- "Ain't nobody elected you to shit."
So how is it she speaks without being on the agenda? Neither you nor I could. And I don't want to hear she's there representing the mayor. If the mayor isn't there, then he isn't there. They know when the council meets, so with any competency they should be able to arrange the mayor's rock-star appearances such that they don't conflict with the work he's elected to do.
Hizzoner was attending a very important conference in Miami, so his step-and-fetch/moteasir filled in for him. Right?
Is Omari even qualified to be in a chief of staff position? All she has are psychology degrees. Not even sure if she even was qualified back when she first worked for the city in 2013-2014.
Watch further into the video and you find out the Mayor and Omari are both using vehicles provided by JPD. Apparently JPD has been buying new vehicles and loaning them to the Mayors office. The best part is, the bill became due in May!
Call it what it is.
And when the money was approved in Congress, the Feds jumped in, thankfully, to keep Jackson's "leadership" hands off it and appointed Ted H and a Federal Judge to oversee everything.
@ December 15, 2023 at 3:44 PM That is the funniest comment I've read in this water situation.
@ December 15, 2023 at 8:36 PM I love Stokes' quotes. "Ain't nobody elected you to shit."
"looters"
Microsoft and my VPN both locked the page posted. I can see KF's intro and comments.
That everything in Jackson has become and unbecoming political nightmare does credit to NONE of THOSE who simply escalate the hostilities.
Could we please find some mature adults who understand how to " play well with others" and solve problems?
@11:15 she has a name full of vowels. Thats about all the qualifications you need under this administration.
Is there a vice-mayor who acts in the absence of the mayor? That person would have the authority to speak 'as mayor', not a staffer.
Oh...Did she run take a call during The Pledge.
She is a doctor so thus, she is the smartest person in the room- don't y'all know that!!
It seems to me the City Council, along with the Mayor and all leaders of the City of Jackson needs to take a course in Business, Ethic and Moral/Values and learn what their position is, what they are suppose to do. For the last 20 years the City of Jackson has been chaos and full of idiots that do NOTHING but get a paycheck and some lining their pocket and NOTHING every get accomplished. They all, personally and professionally should be held responsible for the downfall of the City. It's amazing how it seems only the lower income people get fired when they don't/can't do their jobs.
