Ridgeland police take down bank robber.

The Ridgeland Police Department issued the following statement.

Ridgeland, MS: Tuesday, March 14, 2017, approximately 2:04 pm, Ridgeland Police Department received a call from BancorpSouth located at 758 South Pear Orchard indicating the bank had just been robbed. The caller relayed information to the dispatch center to include a description of the suspect and a vehicle description. Officers responded to the bank and upon approach to the area, an officer encountered a small black Toyota Yaris occupied by a single occupant whose clothing matched the suspects as reported by bank personnel. Officers attempted to stop this vehicle at the intersection of South Pear Orchard and Towne Center Blvd.

The driver of the vehicle fled from officers in an attempt to elude them and without regard for the safety of the officers and others in the area. The fleeing suspect drove on multiple streets in the Pear Orchard, South Wheatley Street area to include residential areas while diverting all means of capture by law enforcement. The pursuit by law enforcement lasted approximately 3 minutes until a point where the suspect turned onto Faith Hill Street from Peach Orchard Road. While traveling on Faith Hill Street and converging officers were closing in on ending the pursuit, the suspect drove his vehicle across three (3) lawns nearly striking several police vehicles in the process.

The suspect vehicle was partially surrounded in the middle of Faith Hill Street as officers approached on foot. The suspect continued to try and maneuver the vehicle in an attempt to elude the officers and refusing to exit the vehicle. Officers of the Ridgeland Police Department discharged their weapons toward the suspect/driver of the vehicle in an attempt to stop additional actions of the fleeing suspect. The robbery suspect sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations (MBI) was contacted and requested to respond to this location to lead and conduct an investigation related to the officer involved shooting. The Ridgeland Police Department criminal investigations division is the lead investigating agency related to the robbery of BancorpSouth Bank.

Investigation by the Ridgeland Police Department revealed the suspect entered the bank approximately 2:03 pm on the south side of the bank. Once he entered the bank, he partially covered his face with some type of clothing article and walked to the teller windows. The suspect produced a green bag and demanded the money be placed into this bag. The suspect retrieved money from two teller stations and fled on foot. Bank personnel were able to maintain a visual watch on the suspect as he left the bank and entered the above referenced vehicle. It was determined through the investigation the suspect did not display a weapon during the robbery. The call from the bank reporting the robbery indicated the suspect may be armed and this information had been relayed to the officers responding to the call. The suspect received an undisclosed amount of US Currency and had it placed in a green bag. This bag containing a large amount of US Currency was located on the front passenger floorboard of the suspect vehicle on Faith Hill Street.

Preliminary reports from MBI indicated during their crime scene processing, no firearm was located inside the vehicle or on the scene of the officer involved shooting. After receiving preliminary reports from the various investigations, the Ridgeland Police Department will be charging the suspect with the crimes of Simple Robbery – No Weapon and Felony Fleeing/Evading Arrest. These charges will be filed by affidavit with the Madison County Youth Court for prosecution. The suspect remains hospitalized and has not been arrested at this point. This remains a very active investigation and at this time the name of the suspect cannot be released. The suspect is recovering from the injuries and they are non-life threatening. The names of the officers involved in the shooting will not be released and the results of the investigation by MBI will be referred to the Madison County District Attorney’s Office.

Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is lead investigating agency on the officer involved shooting of the suspect and any questions related to that portion of the investigation should be directed to the appropriate personnel with that agency.

Any questions related to the robbery should be referred to the Office of the Chief of Police Ridgeland Police Department at 601-853-2014.

Will all of you mayors please provide some money so your officers can get some target practice??

All of this "wounding" is boring me to death.

I'm glad he got caught in Madison County. The D.A. & Judges don't play around over here like they do in Jackson. Now this THUG is going to cost the tax payers of Mississippi a lot of money; public defender, hospital bills, and prison cost.

If I was the chief of police, I would send my officers back to the shooting range and save the tax payers a bundle of cash!!!!!

They don't arrest until discharge from hospital so the municipality is not responsible for the bill

It's a shame he lived. You people should stay in Jackson.

@5:34pm, my first thought as well.

Perhaps Mayor McGee & RPD can utilize the facilities at Turcotte ?

I happen to know how RPD qualifies and I can tell you, they have one of the better qualification standards in the metro area. They were shooting to stop a moving vehicle being used as a potential weapon. It's not exactly comparable to shooting a silhouette at 7 yards that's standing still, and it's not exactly something you can effectively or cost effectively train an entire department on.

UMMC has a budget problem laying off working people you think the 16 year old is gonna pay his bill. Also WAPT says he will be charged as a Juvie. Recon how he is housed and fed before his he went into the thug business. Wonder why the state has no more money.

The punk was getting three squares a day through the 'skool lurnch' program, enjoyed listening to NPR and was a recent grad of 'midnight basketball'. He also had a mentor who saw to it that he attended classes and didn't take his piece to school.

Congratulations to the brave Ridgeland officers who so bravely shot an unarmed teenager.

Tell you what 10:39, since you're so concerned about PD shooting unarmed teenagers, why don't you use your time to either put on the badge and make a difference. So next time when an unknown suspect robs a bank and then uses a vehicle as a weapon you can presume he's just a helpless unarmed teenager and get your dumbass killed for the greater good. Until then, STFU.

I agree with you 10:53; 10:39 lives a shelter life; doesn't know the street life!!!

10:39

You do realize that robbing a bank and attempting to hide your identity at a bank is a huge deal, right?

You do realize a car can be used as a weapon, right?

10:39, you sound like total scum.

Are you saying that 10:39 lives IN A SHELTER? Or were you trying to spell 'sheltered'?
Or are you baffled by that whole thing with the 'ed' added to the ends of some words?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
