State Auditor Shad White issued the following statement.
Today State Auditor Shad White announced that Special Agents from his office have arrested Benjamin Coleman as part of a detailed investigation into unemployment compensation fraud called Operation Payback. Coleman allegedly submitted falsified weekly certification sheets to obtain unemployment funds from the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.“My office found that during COVID, Mississippi handed out over half a billion dollars in illegal unemployment compensation payments,” said State Auditor Shad White. “We will continue to drop the hammer on criminals who can be identified and recover as much of this misspent money as possible.” If convicted Coleman faces up to $20,000 in fines and up to 15 years in prison. All persons arrested by the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Excellent work, Shadster.
He doesn't appear to be felonious-
Why do we continue to publicize and promote the auditor for activities associated with simply doing his job? I know he has aspirations for a higher office but damn. That's like the cooks at McDonald's posting press releases when the burgers are done. Pursuant to Miss. Code and after a thorough investigation....the burgers are done!
"Low hanging fruit" comment in 3, 2, 1...“ comment in 3,2,1…ah shoot Shad already posted it.
Dude is trash! anyone who is Auditor can do this type of work. Nothing to be exalted for. Do your damn job little man. And eat your Wheaties. You need to be up to at least 145 before you announce.
“My office found that during COVID, Mississippi handed out over half a billion dollars in illegal unemployment compensation payments,”
Help me out with some math.
Half a billion in fraud (supposedly), primary for the 2027 governor's race a while away yet, a highly skilled staff to churn out self self-congratulatory press releases and appearances.
Here's the thing to calculate: How many more prisons does Mississippi need so Shad can arrest enough folks to make up for
“We would not have found out about this without somebody coming forward to the Auditor’s office and letting us know, and that person, in this case, was Governor Phil Bryant,” White explained during an appearance on the Gallo Show on SuperTalk Mississippi this morning.
so he can win the Republican primary in 2027?
You must be still wet behind the ears. If a man, or woman, doesn't blow their own horn, who will?
Jealous much?
At this point I wish I was wet behind the ears. Just surprised he feels the need to promote every little success to chase votes. There's a lot of virtue in humility, but I suppose humility and running for a public office cannot coexist in today's world.
even if this guy is convicted how ya gonna get a nickle out of him in civil restitution?
Great job Shad!! You are sounding more and more like Elon every day.
You claim that your office has determined that over A HALF A .DOLLARS of unemployment funds were stolen - and now you have done something about $27,000 of those. Damn, impressive!
Just like Elon (that you so want to emulate with your MOGE crap) - claiming big damn dollars but turning up only the spare change found under the sofa cushions.
While it may annoy you, for some unknown reason, I think it is great that they publish each and every offender. Would be nice if it acts as a deterrent for other grifters and deadbeats. And if it doesn’t, at least I know he is paying attention.
Right! It’s totally the same. 🙄
Just because a State Auditor may have higher aspirations doesn’t mean he shouldn’t keep the public informed about his office’s work to combat crimes committed with public money. I say go get ‘em! Even if I don’t like his politics.
You people are wearing blinders plus you're dumb as stumps.
Shadrack has no desire for higher status in Mississippi. He really thinks Trumps personnel officer will call him when Elon leaves. That's why he stays in touch with Fox and appears on their stage touting his successes.
He actually thinks the Trump admin is going to snatch him up and turn FedDoge over to him.
You're probably right since Shadlack plays inside ball like politicians want them to by being highly selective in how they apply the law and their power so they can cover for their corruption, but appear to be getting something accomplished.
I respect the Mike Cheney promoting the fact that his position should not be an elected position. Of all of our state officials, its the auditor who should not be elected. Shad is a good one, but he takes credit for the sun coming up. For once, how about let one of the actual auditors get credit?
You and Chaney are right. In addition to appointing Insurance Commissioner and Auditor, let’s also appoint competent professionals who are not seeking higher office at Attorney General, Treasury, Ag Commission and Secretary of State.
My guess was right, the JJ filtering system kept out any comments about Shad's latest loss, and his potential personal loss - the Supremes allowing Farve's defamation suit against Shad (personally) going forward. Been headline news on all the legitimate news sources in the area for three days now, but nary a peep out of Shad's personal PR machine known as JJ.
As usual, you are clueless. Found out about it after I'd already made six posts yesterday. Plan on posting about it today or tomorrow afternoon, not when you think I should.
Regardless of the size of his department’s findings and whether it is “low hanging fruit”, Shad is making state employees think twice about embezzling money. He is also making employees that have embezzled but haven’t been caught yet very nervous.
