It appears Jackson mayoral candidate Zachary Servis has a performed a public, um, service for us. He announced on Facebook:
The City of Jackson - Government provided me with their master salary spreadsheet about 3pm yesterday, right before the deadline. As I told them at the council meeting, it was one simple spreadsheet. Why did this take 7 business days? (KF: Learn the law. The city has seven business days to provide the records or ask for another seven business days. The city followed the law.)Also, it’s missing salary information for about 10 employees, two of which are deputy clerks. I’m going to find out why. Click the link I’ve attached if you want to download the master excel spreadsheet file. This Information should be accessible from the website, not requiring me to spend $9 for a spreadsheet. We seriously need to improve the salary of these lower level city employees. I am willing to take a pay cut as mayor if it means a zookeeper gets a raise.
The link is to the Wetransfer website. It is a legitimate file-sharing service. The roster and pay of city employees is available for download in Excel format.

$95K for director of constituent services. That's about three times what she's worth.
That link is through Facebook.
While this kid has added some humor and opportunities to laugh during the campaign season, he is an idiot in his proclaimed 'policies' and has no concept about what or how to 'run' city government.
Taking a pay cut from his Mayor's salary - one has to wonder if that is the 'current' salary of the Mayor or the proposed increased salary he promoted and proclaimed he supported when it was brought up in the Council meeting a month or so ago - in order to raise the pay of a zookeeper is not governing.
There are hundreds, no thousands, of employees on the City's payroll - why should he think cutting "his" (although he knows he will never be receiving a salary as Mayor) salary in order to raise one of those employee's pay matters. Why spend time and effort talking about the pay of the zookeeper (and there are many jobs within the zoo, why just the keeper(s) is he concerned about) when in fact the question is - let's close the zoo and quit spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on that failed enterprise? Cutting "his" salary in order to raise one other guy's salary in a job that ought to be eliminated shows nothing but his attempt to sound like he has thought about the issue - which he clarly hasn't.
Sorry Zach, you have failed ONCE AGAIN in making any sense or showing you have the ability to serve in any capacity of running our government.
KF, you can be a real smart ass sometimes. He didn’t say or imply that the City didn’t follow the law. He merely pointed out the obvious: the City should need 7 days to furnish this record. Just because the law gives 7 business days to respond doesn’t mean they should take the entire 7 days to comply for something this simple.
For those interested, there is data on government employee salaries at this link. First select Mississippi and go from there depending on if you want to view an entity or search by name.

Keep in mind the fiscal year for some entities runs from July to June and not on the calendar year.
@3:09 and also likely near 3x what WLBT was paying her. Prima donna.
I grew up playing Sim City 2000 so I guarantee I am more quakified that Chokway or Horhne.
I could have jackson humming with a nuclear power plant, a brand new stadium, casinos, museums, and a downtown full of skyscrapers
And Chowke hasn't failed?
Damn, you should have run; your executive experience matches or exceeds Chockwe's, Hohrn's, Wade and Zervis's combined
I was told years ago by a former city employee that the City still uses a compensation schedule that was adopted in the mid 1990s. That's why most of the low grade positions pay so little, even compared to some of the much smaller suburbs. The City always claims they couldn't afford to update salaries across the board because of declining revenue. But funny how they can always find the money to pay higher more competitive salaries to recruit incompetent and unqualified directors and deputies who happen to be their cousins, frat brothers/sisters, church members, side pieces, etc.
You've gotten more information out of Servis in a campaign season than out of Lumumba in 8 years. Who's the chump? Servis or you?
Well seeing how the current batch of idiots operate the city, I think this guy is a winner. I mean a Waffle House manager can operate COJ better than the current failures.
Someone should ask Chokwe about the late audit.
What I would like to see is a red check mark beside the names of all the white employees. Kingfish doesn't have the balls to approach that one.
WTF does the head of Planning & Development do for Jackson?
I am unable to imagine anyone at the top of the list coming home and saying, “Whew, I’m beat.”
Someone may need to question if the spreadsheet provided includes all city employees. The govsalaries.com site shows 107 employees making more than Lumumba, with Sharon Thames (Chief Administrative Officer) making the most at 345k.
Police Captains only make $65k a year? You can make dang near that as a rookie at Madison or Brandon PD. However, I hear that most of JPD’s upper brass (Capt and above) are inexperienced and incompetent. One example bears the same last name as the now deceased chief snd sheriff.
