Shocker of the Day: Richard's Disposal Edition

It appears Richard's Disposal wasn't exactly telling the truth when it ran behind on garbage collection two weeks ago.  The Northside Sun reported last week:

Reprinted with permission

The report confirms what JJ reported June 27:

The performance of Richard's Disposal over the last ten days should come as no surprise to anyone who followed the company in New Orleans  Actually, please allow me to re-write that sentence.  The non-performance of Richard's Disposal over the last ten days should come as no surprise to anyone who followed the company in New Orleans.

Devastating storms rolled through the Jackson metro area over the last ten days. Richard's Disposal ran one to two days late in picking up the garbage.  The New Orleans company of course, blamed the storms.  Richard's Disposal might have been able to get away with that excuse except there was one problem.  Waste Management serves Hinds County, Madison County, Pearl, Ridgeland, Clinton, Madison, and the other burbs.  Waste Management picked up the garbage without missing a beat even though it serves roughly the same amount of customers as Richard's Disposal.

Storms rolled through again Wednesday night, knocking out power to many yet again.  The city of Jackson issued a press release yesterday:

Due to recent storms, trash pickup will be delayed today. Strong winds caused a temporary power outage at the Waste Management transfer station. This is preventing the transfer of trash collections. Crews are currently working to restore power and Richard’s Disposal will resume service as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience.

The transfer station did indeed lose power.  However,  Waste Management continued to pick up the garbage without missing a beat. Waste Management service areas such as Pearl, Clinton, Madison, Hinds County, and Madison County suffered no problems with their garbage collection yesterday.  One official said the transfer station lost power but the company continued to accept garbage.

Richard's Disposal earned a less than stellar reputation in New Orleans after Hurricane Ida struck the Crescent City.  The company's performance never recovered to pre-hurricane levels even months later.  New Orleans residents would not be surprised to learn that Jacksonians are suffering the same fate.

Thus while the city and company can whine all day about storms and power outages, the bottom line is Waste Management managed to pick up the garbage when it was supposed to pick up the garbage while another company repeatedly makes excuses and that my friends, is the bottom line.

Surprise, surprise.

Anything Lumumba is promoting should be an immediate red flag.

Damn KF, for years you have claimed to be one that provides NEWS and information to your readers.

The City of Jackson lying is not news. It happens with absolute regularity. The fact that the Mayor would put out an absolutely false statement, especially about his personal cash-cow utility service - Richards Garbage - shouldn't come as a shock.

Am glad to see that the Northside Sun bothered to check into this and report it as well, though.

Reminding all of us about the blatenness of hizzonner's blabbering is also good for a late afternoon drink!

The majority of voters in Jackson who need to read this, won’t. In fact, most won’t read more words than a tweet this entire week. These are people who’s’ attention span wouldn’t last the entirety of the evening news if it weren’t for commercials.

The solution is very easy. Just bag your garbage and transport it to Pearl, Brandon, Raymond, Ridgeland, Madison, Canton, Clinton,
They will pick it up.

How many punctuation marks do we need to put at the end of “Lumumba is a lying piece of scum?” He will prevaricate, fabricate, equivocate, and tergivostate on any issue at any time. That is his playbook. He thinks he’s the greatest thing ever while simultaneously knowing he is incompetent and hasn’t done jackshit. He’s Narcissus and Machiavelli rolled into one, thinking nobody is on to him because he’s the smartest person in every room.

I have a mental image of him as a man who needs a mirror at every turn, every corner, every step so he can revel in his reflection and preen at his grandeur. In other words, he’s little more than empty and despicable.

Anything that comes out of New Orleans should be a red flag.

Remember Bob Miller?

Very interesting information, By the way, are there any houses for sale in Northeast Jackson?

Anonymous said...

Lamumba is about to hand out some amberlamps contracts, surely he’ll do a good job with that, RIGHT?

Anonymous said...

But as long as Richard's awarded that fat "IT contract" to Chokwe's buddies, who cares?!? It's all a grift folks. Everything you see is about the Lumumba family and friends lining their pockets. The saddest part is the people hurt the most are the most oblivious to it all.

The question is: why did the city lie? At this point it’s a rhetorical question. Everyone knows the answer.

The real question is where is the FBI and US Attorneys office? Why are they holding fire while an obviously corrupt administration in the state capital pilferers the taxpayers?

Are there any houses for sale which have water and sewage?

Anonymous said...

They did not pick up all of the garbage, they failed to pick up the Mayor of Jackson.

Lumumba = Pathological said...

$100 bet half-Mayor Mythomaniac's comments yesterday regarding document shredding contained numerous falsehoods. Can't get anyone to answer damn 911 calls but sure as hell documents get shredded on schedule.

YES!! *THIS* is the question!! The stench of corruption is overwhelming and yet...!

nothing.

Just like Chappaquiddick. Just like the Clintons, and now the Bidens, skating despite clear evidence of Pay-to-Play... "donations".

We get what we vote for.

Or more accurately, what they (someone?) voted for. Because I live here but I never voted for that crap and never will. And neither have the people I know.

In Eastover, FOUR. Four houses on the market.

So, why would Richards lie about the power outage? To what end? What was to be gained by lying? What was the real reason their trash pick-up was delayed?

Know what this is?

@8:55 interesting- my favorite part is the reminder to reach out to the city with inquiries on potential subcontractors. i’m sure the mayor would LOVE to refer applicants to a certain “IT” company…

Still waiting on a refund for the month with zero pick up.

Im conservative all day, but I can see the parallels in the blind voter obsession between Trump and Chuck.

People pick a political god now and staunchly refuse to acknowledge ANY imperfection in the god of their choosing.

Chuck or Trump: "I'm going to burn an occupied orphanage to the ground"

The die hard zealots: "I don't care. I am still voting for him."

I have no real hope for society on a State or Federal level.

Ms Martin should use this as proof to Wingate that this administration should be trusted to handle all of the contract going forward.

They are really good at this.

@6:41 pm, Your mayor, he is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that's a storybook, man. You need to lighten up some.

Cannot fathom living in a city (and paying for the unreliable service) that gives this much thought to trash pickup.

Where I live, we simply pay a monthly fee, put it out and it is picked up.

Serious question, Why do you guys put up with this? Why aren't there grassroots organizers picketing Chuck? Why do the citizens just put up with it?

I don't understand.

Y'all got hood-winked. When Chowke announced that the collection site was closed due to a power outage, his lips were moving. When that happens he is lying; 100% of the time.

Anonymous said...

It could be possible that the workers experienced power outage. Things happen Life happens. At the end of the day power outages and weather affect any services we have every day. Stop pointing the finger at an issue that's not the mayor's fault.. the city council has more control. They are the ones that make the decision, not him. This has nothing to do with him

Anonymous said...

Sort of off the subject, but why hasn't the award-winning (as we are constantly reminded) Clarion Ledger jumped on this? I guess they couldn't send a reporter all the way from Hattiesburg. Northside Sun is to to be commended for making a simple email inquiry and breaking this story.

... the city council has more control. They are the ones that make the decision, not him.

What is truly sad is that you believe that.

Kingfish said...

Northside Sun broke the story? Did you read the whole post?

As for blaming the Mayor, he is the one who brought Richard's into all this. No one made him put out a press release that did not tell the truth. This website verified and reported that day that no other cities were having such problems and WM was accepting garbage at the transfer station despite the power being out.

For some strange reason, RD couldn't get it together. Same problems it had in New Orleans after storms and hurricanes. WM didn't miss a lick while RD made excuses.

The half-Mayor is totally incompetent. Now he's blaming AT&T for E911 calls going unanswered. Only a matter of time before he blames the volcano for something that has gone wrong.

Anonymous said...

Northside Sun is to to be commended for making a simple email inquiry and breaking this story.

Except that they didn't. Catch up.

It seems Richards' business model is underbid, overcommit, underdeliver and wait for a weather event or something else to put the blame on for falling behind. It says it all that WM had no issues with continuing to fulfill their commitments.

How long after the Mayor forces the city council to approve a long-term contract will Richards pull what they did in NOLA and claim they aren't being paid enough to remain competitive with the other garbage providers in terms of staffing and then ask the city for more money?

Thie pic of the RDI trunk half swallowed by a sink hole on the news was amusing.

I will grant them, THAT seems like a valid excuse for a delay in pick up.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
