When the Circus Came to Federal Court.

Our favorite municipal attorney was at it again yesterday in federal court.  WLBT's Anthony Warren reported:

Fireworks erupted at the federal courthouse on Wednesday at a hearing to discuss the city’s transparency concerns with JXN Water.

During a short recess, court officials announced that they were investigating someone recording the proceedings, which were also being broadcast via Zoom.

Later, U.S. District Court Judge Henry Wingate questioned Deputy Fire Chief Elliott Holmes after the court learned he had been informed about another witness’s testimony despite being sequestered during that time.

City Attorney Catoria Martin objected to the judge’s questioning, saying the proceedings were supposed to be a status conference, not an evidentiary hearing.

Read the rest of the article.  There were more fireworks as someone apparently needs to take a course in Federal Court Etiquette.  It got so bad that Mayor Lumumba tried to jump into the proceedings to save his lawyer but Judge Wingate told him to sit right back down.

Shk-way is a disaster everywhere he goes.

Does attorney Martin have pics on Lumumba?

I would give $1,000 to see Lumbubbles held in direct contempt in federal court.

These COJ pieces of $hit are trying to f*ck around and find out.

This is a great example of how appointed judges can handle a courtroom without worrying about upsetting the instigators and activists. We need one layer of appointee judges in Mississippi, whether it be county or the supremes. Elected judges are a bad idea.

Sadly they are all wrong.. The fire insurance scale is 1-10....

11:28: We already have appointed judges in Mississippi. They are called federal district judges.

The last thing this state needs is for the MSGOP to hand-pick the state judiciary.

Is Candace Abdul-Tawwab a new addition to the People's Advocacy Institute team or have I just not noticed her before? Did Rukia hire her when her husband was fired from JXN Water?

She's the only one without a working link to her bio (https://www.peoplesadvocacyinstitute.com/pai-team)... curious how many of the organizations in attendance today have direct ties to her, Rukia or Chokwe. My guess is 90-100%. Per the PAI website, she is an Assistant Director but per her LinkedIn she is the Director of Finance and Administration.

My favorite member of the PAI team has to be Board Member Wilma Jones-Scott (https://www.peoplesadvocacyinstitute.com/wilmajones-scott) who continues to claim to have worked for the City of Jackson as Director of Human Resources since December 2017 (PAI website bio and her Linked-in both read as though she still currently serves in this role), but in February 2023, when someone pushed back on her spewing the Mayor's narrative on Nextdoor by pointing out that she works for the City and lives in Madison, Wilma responded with the following:

"To Mr [redacted], See how misinformed you are and how you put misinformation out to be consumed as fact. I. DONT work for the city and haven't for almost six years. [do the math on that one...] I have spent my entire working career fighting for equal rights and with a the focus on TRUTH. YOU obviously have NO IDEA WHAT that looks like. You are a very sad & pathetic humans [sic] being. I'm gonna, nevertheless less [sic] ask GOD to intercede and lead you out of DARKNESS!!!"

She goes by "Amina (Wilma) Scott" on Nextdoor and has since deleted the comment, but screenshots are forever.

I agree with 11:28 AM. I am a practicing attorney of 28 years and have been saying the same thing about elected judges, as every four (4) years they have to ask for the people who will come before him/her for their vote - which I think creates a potential for the appearance of impropriety at times in some cases.

Just par for the course with these liberals, they are so special the rules do not apply. I recall the mayor's dad was actually jailed for contempt of court in Leake County when he disrespected Circuit Judge Marcus Gordon. I took criminal law under Judge Winngate before he was a federal judge and I can tell you he is all business and will not put up with these idiots.

@11:28am - Agree, but need ethics code and removal procedures for any appointed judges. Don’t need to wind up like the current SCOTUS shit show.

Anonymous said...

I’d match your $1,000

Does Judge Wingate and Mr. Henifin know these groups are tied to the Mayor in some sort of fashion or the other?

Popping off to a Federal Judge can't possibly have a happy ending.

This Martin woman needs about 30 days to learn to keep her mouth shut.

There is no problem with SCOTUS. It's just MSM hitpieces. Dems mad they can't liberally interpret the Constitution with the bullshit "living constitution" ideology.

Bill Dees said...

What's an "experience officer", and how much does the City of Jackson pay them? Apparently there's more than one, because Tariq Abdul-Tawwab, was described as the former "chief" experience officer

@12:17 PM - She is a blatant racist and race baiter and is eating out of the public trough at the EEO Commission.

Marcus Gordon sent many attorneys home with their tails between their legs. Anyone who went into his court unprepared, with an attitude or without knowledgeable felt the wrath.

12:01 - Hand picked judges are exactly what Jackson & MS needs. Many of the ones being elected by the "people" are incompetent. Our system of voting is dependent on an informed, intelligent electorate. And that is wherein the problems lies.

Anonymous said...

2:30, et. al., I disagree that the people are incapable of self-governance through democratic elections. Hinds County is an obvious exception.

Go home to Wichita and take your fascist-Koch BS with you.

2:30 for the win.

We were so much better off as a society before Rock the Vote BS.
Too many uninformed idiots vote today. And they multiply like rabbits.

"Judge Wingate told him to sit right back down"
hahahahaha!

Alex, I will take bozos and jackasses in court for $1000.

Baby Chok and his administration are "running" this city EXACTLY how you would think they would "run" this city.

Anonymous said...

As with many other words, too numerous to list, "restraint" and "decorum" are two that have no analog in this administration's culture's language.

I hope Judge Wingate knows exactly how bad it can get when the Mayor doesn't get his way. I believe the Judge has witnessed enough to know. Lord, give the Judge strength to keep stopping the interruptions that have plagued Jackson.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
