Insurance Commish Mike Chaney issued the following statement.
William Walden has been charged with Capital Murder and First Degree Arson in Itawamba County. He is accused of killing his mother and setting her home on fire.
The Mississippi State Fire Marshal’s Office investigated a burned two-bedroom mobile home on Brown Road on July 14, 2023. Deputy Rusty McCoy and Deputy Supervisor Jonathan Owens searched the scene and interviewed Walden on two different occasions. They named him as an arson suspect and, on July 15, Walden confessed that he had beaten his mother, Flora Walden, to death and then set her home on fire.
Walden’s bond was set at $250,000 and the Mississippi Department of Corrections placed a hold on him due to a previous felony conviction.

Here I am, sitting a hospital “prayer room” waiting for news on my mother’s survival.
The one person who will love you unconditionally, no matter how much or a turd you become, is your mother.
Yes she’s a cringe boomer but I still love her and need her for several more decades.
Seems easy enough. Short rope and a tall tree.
Well, she was home.
What a stretch in a election year.
He was out of prison on "early release." How is that early release program working out? Attention legislators!!!!
$250,000.00 Bond for murder? MDOC will only hold him for so long.
9.:35, enlighten me….what’s a “cringe boomer” or are you the boomer hater?
There's a lot of ignorance in the comments on this post. The mom had probably been in prison for child abuse. Did she have it coming? Is that the reason for the bail amount? Bail is just to insure that an accused shows up for the trial - it'not punishment.
@Bill Dees - you have it half right. Do tell us the other half of the reason for bail. I'll wait.
@Bill Dees - it's "ensure," not "insure."
This guy shot his cousin in the back 11 years ago. He served just enough timed to get early release and then killed his mother. Way to go parole board. No one contacted anyone in Itawamba County and asked them what they thought about this killer. I know. I worked the case 11 years ago and I'm working this one. I found the mother laying in the same place I found the cousin. In the same house. This time he burned the house down on top of his mother. I would like to meet the parole board.
@Bill Dees - it's "ensure," not "insure."
Or....is it assure?
well just so you all know on the camera footage he had been gone from the house for a while before the trailer blew up even picked up by police or already picked up before it blew up at the water heater that she had worked on two times in the past couple months. camera footage also shows them burning stuff in the yard the day before which the bottle of starting fluid would have had his fingerprints on it when they found it in the yard from the day before and no she did not abuse her son and to my knowledge she has never been in jail before she loved her son dearly yes he did kill his cousin shot her in the back sitting at the kitchen table they were pretty close and they were both high on drugs at the time and could have or not have been an accident no excuses he still killed her and done 11 years of a 20 years sentence and did he kill his mom? that is something that still needs all the evidence looked into in which itawamba county has no intrest in looking at
