Rankin-Madison District Attorney Bubba Bramlett issued the following statement.
Madison and Rankin Counties' District Attorney Bubba Bramlett has announced that convicted felon Shunekndrick Huffman, who escaped the Mississippi Department of Corrections in August 2022, pled guilty to two counts of kidnapping. Circuit Court Judge Steve Ratcliff sentenced Huffman to 60 years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with 40 of those years to be served in the state prison.
On August 25, 2022, Huffman escaped from the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility in Pearl, MS, where he was serving a seven-year sentence for aggravated assault and was scheduled to be released in December. Huffman escaped on foot and broke into a nearby home, holding the homeowner and two daughters at gunpoint for hours. Huffman then stole one of the hostages’ cars before wrecking and taking off on foot toward the nearby Mississippi State Hospital campus. Over a hundred local law enforcement officials surrounded the area, and Huffman was quickly apprehended after being found hiding inside a trash can near one of the campus homes.
Huffman was sentenced to 30 years, with 20 years being served and the last ten suspended for one count of kidnapping. He was also sentenced to an additional 30 years, with 20 years being served and the last ten suspended for another count of kidnapping. Upon release, Huffman will be placed on five years of supervised probation. Both sentences are to run consecutive to one another.
District Attorney Bubba Bramlett stated, “The excellent and efficient work and cooperation of MDOC officials, state officials, the Pearl Police Department, Rankin County Sheriff’s Department, and other agencies involved in this tense manhunt led to the successful apprehension of this escaped convict.”

I've heard that 15 will get you 20, but I ain't never heard that 4 months early will get you 20. Dayum. Mebbe they should have just tossed him in the criminal cage at Whitfield as he must be crazy.
He doesn't look too remorseful.
How appropriate that he ended up in a garbage can.
Real genius right here
I wonder how much that “property near the prison that he broke out of” would cost if put on the Rankin county market?
Why even bother with pretending to sentence him to 30 years if you are going to suspend a third of the sentence?
Cover for the court on appeal would be my guess, as if it considered every conceivable circumstance and applied every available balancing standard before sticking it to the criminal. Peel back all the mental and mathematical gymnastics and in the end you’ve got two 30 year consecutive sentences. In any event, in Hinds County, he’d prob be out on $10k bond awaiting a trial that may or may not ever happen. Wonder where he got the gun between the breakout and the breakin? If he escaped from the jail unabetted and promptly committed a home invasion, did he just happen to stumble across a loaded weapon on the way from point A to point B, or did he seize it from the homeowner? I don’t know why I’m curious about that. Maybe I missed something.
Oops my bad. 40 years, not 60. Not that it has anything to do with 60 minus xyz, but the consecutive 20 years “being served” threw me off a bit. Isn’t it usually “to be served?” I mean, I get he’s in custody (time served or whatever) but how is he already serving a sentence that just got handed down?
I only had 4 more months of free room and board left for this guy. Now, I will pay for 40 years free room, board, and top notch medical care. I sure hope whoever he kidnapped does a lot of societal contribution in the future.
Bubba must issue a press release every day. His horn should. Be tired from all the tootin.
This incident pretty much sums up the mentality of a criminal.
90 days to go and he turns it into 60 years.
Our prisons are full of this type.
That hair makes me wonder if he is more a fan of Sonic the Hedgehog or Goku from Dragon Ball Z.

I'm sure the innocent folks he kidnapped/held hostage at gunpoint for hours understand why you would make this about how YOU have been injured. I'm sure they are remorseful for your loss and will make full restitution by their "societal contributions in the future." I suppose you are glad they weren't murdered only because they still have a future to care for you, you miserable POS.
A man will try almost anything to keep from being evicted from his home. Probably the first time he had a roof over his head and plenty of food to eat. Never had to work. Just lay around in the AC watching tv. He was forced to do something so he could stay on the gravy train.
That's a great ROI. He turned 4-months into 40-years.
