Mayor to Gov: Thanks But.......

 Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba issued the following statement last night. 

We are pleased to see within the plan shared today that the State of Mississippi and Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is moving towards the transparency that we identified as an urgent need when the City of Jackson created the Police Identification Task Force. That said, the problem of crime is not going to be solved through policing alone.

The State’s efforts to better streamline its law enforcement agencies and bolster communication in and around the Capitol City Complex and State highways is within its jurisdiction. The City and Jackson Police Department welcome the commitment to greater collaboration and support. However, we must also apply the same effort toward authoring solutions that address the root of the problem. The State has failed to provide adequate funding in this regard. In order to realize true impact, it is necessary to also stand up and bolster the social supports and community programs that lift up our communities by addressing issues of poverty, joblessness, mental health, gaps in education and opportunity and more.

Kingfish note: Hmmm..... why is it every metropolitan area in the United States that suffers from a serious shortage of police officers also suffers from a spike in violent crime at the same time? 

It is ironic the Mayor uses the word "hypocrisy" as he has done everything possible to hide crime from the public.   The Mayor trashed the crime reports that gave great information for to a new version that was vague and hid any comparisons to the prior year so the public couldn't gauge his progress.  This is the same Mayor that ran off a command staff that had crime going in the right direction and micromanaged JPD into the ground. 

Transparent? The Mayor has hidden crime information for more than half his administration just as his father did.  JPD has not updated its crime reports on the city website in over a year.  


Some people criticized the Governor for not inviting the Mayor to the press conference yesterday.  Why should he do so? The Mayor has nothing to do with areas under state jurisdiction.  If the Mayor wants to get invited, he should probably start acting like a Mayor instead of a baby.  He repeatedly lied to the national media about the Governor and his administration not paying water bills, when in fact they did.  The Mayor constantly bashes the Governor and Legislature to any and all who have a press card. Perhaps you and your friends shouldn't compare the Governor to the KKK when you can't get your way at the Capitol.    

In other words, quit spouting off whatever comes to the top of your head just because it sounds good to your crowd and grow up.

Lumumba says, “The State has failed to provide adequate funding”. City of Jackson no longer wants to be financially obligated for the services they provide or for infrastructure costs needed. The City (and Mayor) expects the State and/or the Federal government to foot the bill.

I’m always perplexed by the forced correlation of crime and poverty. I grew up extremely poor and never once did anyone in my family break the law because we were poor. The reality the excuse-driven mayor won’t admit is that when you’re poor, you end up working up 2, 3, 4 jobs to make it. When in the hell would you have time to commit crimes??

It’s just another liberal excuse for poor life choices. And we have people in power who provide those who prefer the government teat excuses all day long for not helping themselves. It’s pathetic!!

I don't think anybody had high hopes for Antar, but it would have been hard to imagine at the beginning of his term that he would be as relentlessly incompetent as he is. Anyone with the means to move from Jackson and chooses to stay is complicit.

The problem according to the Mayor is "inadequate funding" in slowing violent crime. I agree. So let's start by using JB Weld to glue solid quarters to the street below parking meters. Time spent trying to pick up a solid quarter means less time spent committing violent crime, right. If that doesn't work, perhaps a Wells Fargo armored vehicle with a back door flapping in the breeze letting single one dollar bills fly out the back while driving down I-220 would surely slow down violent crime. Right.

When are we going to grow up around here!? That's why it's a sh*t show around here now!? Because people and their freakin' egos are not being stroked by this person or that person.

It really boils down to do we want to come together as a community or maintain the status quo of carrying on as if Jim Crow only ended 4 years ago and integration is being forced on everyone.

Yes, Empty Suit was elected Mayor this year. But let’s look at the numbers: he was elected with about 13,150 votes. That’s out of a city with 170,000 people of which about 115,000 are voting age. It should be so easy.

well, in the mayor's defense, when it only takes 13,000 votes to be re-elected to the office, his statement, as unfortunate as it is and indicates for the good people of Jackson, would really seem on point for the number of votes he could generate.

Above said, when there is every day, a stabbing, and gun altercation, rampant petty crime, trash riddled city, with a water system that is probably getting worse by the day........Maybe on could say "thank you" for caring enough to get involved in this city and helping us change directions......

Jackson needs money. How do we solve it because this ain't it? I don't think the current Mayor has a plan other than to keep drawing that salary.

1. Control crime through policing. Make current and potential residents and businesses feel safe. Saturate businesses districts with police to create the perception of safety so Jackson is where people want to spend their tax dollars. A City or State cannot fix the underlying, true cause of crime - destruction of the family unit and/or poverty.

2. Send a damn water bill to folks so the revenue is there to bring the water/sewer up to standards.

2. Create an environment that is friendly to businesses. Keep your infrastructure up to par in your areas that are generating sales tax revenues. Work with State to sell the to and attract new businesses and get people solid jobs so they get out of poverty.

3. Enforce existing homeowner codes to clean up these neglected/abandoned homes/businesses in neighborhoods. Pride in the City starts with the perception of it by City hall.

4. Once tax revenues begin increasing, focus more on City beautification projects like bringing back the street sweepers, adequately and timely repairing potholes, sewer issues, etc.

5. Make this a City we can all be proud of as Jacksonians and Mississippians.

What the governor is doing is a good way to force the mayor to do his job. The state is going to prove that Jackson needs to step up and protect it's citizens. The primary function of any government is to protect it's citizens. It can be law enforcement related. It can be environmental related. It doesn't matter whether you like the governor or like the mayor. Any citizen should be behind their own protection.

Mr Mayor, I am a black retired disabled Veteran with over 36 years Service to this great country. Our State doesn’t need any money for so-called social programs to stop ignorance! We as a people forgot Reverend Kings Dream!

If non Americans can come to this Country with no money, cannot speak English and succeed! Why can’t we as a people, as a whole be successful law abiding citizens! Tell the people to stop the madness, tell the people the truth!

If you can’t do this Mr Mayor then you go to these crime ridden communities and live with the non- complaint!

Pull your suit off, Mr Mayor and be frank with your constituents!

Mr Mayor I want you to succeed! But you have to get off this false narrative and be honest with the community!

That's Locke, not Jefferson, albeit Jefferson could be argued to have had a less-encompassing, (very) broadly-similar sentiment based upon Locke's general expression of the sentiment. If that sounds like a lot of caveats, it is. From Mr. Jefferson himself:

"Are we then to stand to our arms, with the hot-headed Georgian? No. That must be the last resource, not to be thought of until much longer and greater sufferings. If every infraction of a compact of so many parties is to be resisted at once, as a dissolution of it, none can ever be formed which would last one year. We must have patience and longer endurance then with our brethren while under delusion; give them time for reflection and experience of consequences..."

Of note, Jefferson used the exact phrase, "hot-headed Georgian," in several letters circa 1823/4-1826 (the year he died). Perhaps a gentle suggestion for further reading. Or merely a rationalization for those who would act like hot-headed Mississippians.

We as a nation have thrown trillions of dollars at the poverty issue, and it's no better today that it was when LBJ kicked off his Great Society/War on Poverty. And that's exactly the way that the dems/libs want it. They have succeeded in making several generations of Americans, mainly blacks, wards of the state, and Chucky is just following that same playbook. It took decades for us to get to this point, and I really don't think there's any reversing it.

The reason he wasn't invited to the press conference or even asked about it is because no one respects this clown. Literally no one. No one in government, not one of his constituents outside of his dog and pony show(Sista Rukia & The First Lady of Jackson included lol) absolutely no one. Everyone sees he is about him and not Jackson. He wants to beg for money but play the blame game and take responsibility for nothing. He is an empty suit clown who wont address real problems and he hides from the public, or is surrounded by his entourage so they cant call him out on his lack of give a shit for the city he represents.

Those words, above, belonged to Thomas Jefferson, not John Locke. It may be true, John Locke influenced Thomas Jefferson, but these words were not penned by John Locke on our Declaration Of Independence. As an aside, Locke contended for life, liberty, and property. Property does not equal happiness, unless you are one shallow human being.

How did you ever come to the conclusion that Jefferson was speaking of Locke in those letters. By the way, I only found one reference to a hot headed Georgian? The letter to Giles is concerning, in Jefferson's opinion, power being usurped from the states. From what was in the letter to Giles, it implied that Jefferson was in agreement with this person, but not ready to divulge that information. I believe your Google powers are fading.

I never said that Jefferson was speaking of Locke in the use of the phrase. Locke was English (and died before Georgia came into existence). The only thing related to Locke is the correction of the attribution of the sentiment expressed.

As to "hot-headed Georgian," anyone interested in the content of Jefferson's letters ought to read his actual letters rather than interpretations of them from secondary sources, Google/SERP or otherwise. Speaking of (mis)attributions: to "quote" Mark Twain, "Be careful reading health books. You could die from a misprint."

If you are very old and have cognitive issues, I understand. I'm old myself. Simply admit your mistake, don't double down.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.


In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox.
