A shooting victim is thankful to be alive after he survived a shotgun attack while trying to get on I-20 in Jackson yesterday.
The victim, "Mike", operates a door-service business. He finished a job in south Jackson and got on to Highway 18 to go home. He was in the right lane at the stop light just before the I-20E entrance ramp.
As Mike drove onto the ramp, a car on his left served over and tried to run him off the road. He waved his arm so they could see him. The car was a four-door royal blue sedan with a bumper held in place by black tape. The windows were tinted. Both windows on the right side of the car rolled down, revealing four black men in the car.
One of the men pointed a shotgun at him and fired. Mike said it was a 12 gauge shotgun with a muzzle brake. Buckshot struck his back and neck as shown in the photo posted above. A second shot missed him. Frightened but not frozen, Mike swerved off in the grass to get away from his assailants. The shooters sped away on the interstate. He said no words had been exchanged between the two vehicles nor had there been any display of road rage.
Mike wondered if he was about to die as he felt blood gush down his neck. He tried to flag down motorists passing by. A nurse stopped, treated him, and called 911. A security guard stopped as well and took him to UMC. JPD met Mike at the hospital and interviewed him.
Doctors removed most of the pellets. Thankfully, none of the pellets struck "anything vital." The pellets that struck his neck would have killed him if any of them were 1 centimeter forward.
One pellet remains near his spine but the physician said it shouldn't be removed unless it became life-threatening or caused pain.
Mike said he is ok and will be fine although "it hasn't hit me yet."

There is supposed to be a law regarding window-tinting. Jackson is not the only place where this practice is completely out of hand. Everyday I see cars which have windows so black that you would not see a shotgun or a pistol pointed directly at you one foot away. Your first chance to escape is when/if they roll down the window. Then it is probably too late. Imagine if you are law enforcement. It's life or death out there.

This has happened in Jackson at least a dozen times in the last 2 years. But it hasn’t happened once in Brandon, Flowood, Florence, Pearl, or Richland.
this could be gang related......and some punk "getting his bones".....Until we have law enforcement willing to patrol and look for reckless driving and window tint violations (is the window tint law still in place?), then we are all at risk of this.....think about it like this: This incident happened w/in eye sight of the only way mart in metro Jackson........As much as I despise what was mart has become, their grocery section is a legitimate cost savings, and good families with low income should be able to go to the grocery store w/o risking their lives........So the mayor can preach about "holistic solutions", Right? more money and community programs, right? etc......but the city of Jackson, as a whole, is not safe, is not business friendly, and is third world crap......and no one, be they white or black, or any race should have to live like this.

There's a surveillance camera at Hwy. 18 & Greenway Dr., very near where this shooting occurred. Hopefully the camera caught something that will help police catch the thugs. I take the same route as the innocent driver "Mike" all the time. Scary.

Please reinstate executions of those that have been given the death penalty. All of them! It's the only deterrent that works. You kill someone, you get killed back by a firing squad.
If this was a group of thugs looking to randomly shoot a white person, there's a multitude of places with way better odds to find the random white dude than Highway 18 at I-20.

I mean maybe a gang initiation or like someone said, just black thugs on a mission to kill a white guy - but even then, why in broad daylight on an exit ramp? I hate to ask this, seems insulting to the poor victim, but makes me wonder if they knew him or had a beef with him or something. Either way, though, it doesn’t mitigate it. These thugs are subhuman.

KF, for comparison of local police methods, you should post about the auto burglary in Madison and the kick-ass job the MPD and Flowood police did in nailing the thug. In Jackson, JPD won’t even respond to an auto burglary, much less involve freaking federal marshals.

If you are speaking of Bradley it’s hardly accurate to say that shooting was racially motivated. The same shooter shot a black guy in a parking lot of a gas station right before running into Bradley on West street and shooting him. The shooter was evil for sure but ascribing race to it is not warranted under the facts as they exist.
Bradley was a gifted talented guy…..I pass the house to this day and think about that.

Like an earlier post noted, there's a Real Time Command Center surveillance camera - with the flashing blue light - at Hwy. 18 & Greenway Dr. - the same intersection "Mike" stopped at before being shot on the on-ramp to I-20. Has the Real Time Command Center helped anything or anybody to solve crimes so far?
BTW, that intersection, & in particular the nearby Walmart parking lot, are a hotspot for robberies & carjackings. That Walmart is known as "the bad Walmart" among store employees in the metro area who are often asked to help at the Hwy. 18 Walmart. Most refuse because they're afraid of being robbed or worse in the parking lot. If JPD wants to know where to concentrate resources. Hwy. 18 & Greenway is a good place to start.
This probably had nothing to do with the victim's race, anymore than many of the police killings BLM constantly cite had to be racism. 30 or so years ago a guy I worked with and his wife were driving on a two lane road out in that area and a pickup in the oncoming lane fired a shotgun out the drivers window as they went by. The shot struck his wife. She survived but is still haunted by the experience.

Passed right by that truck getting on 20 and saw the windows blown out, it was in grass behind rimtyme. They have a police camera at the intersection there too. I live in the area and I keep an AR with two mags in the truck and a glock locked and loaded on my lap when driving around Jackson. As far as race goes if it were reversed you know people would be screaming racism, nothing new, even if race wasn’t involved.

Thought about what might have caused it. However, this guy posted the picture on WAPT's FB post about the shooting. He immediately talked to me when I asked for an interview. I asked him point blank about saying anything or if he'd met them. He said no to all such questions.
That's not usually the case when there is a "something else." That is a particularly violent area around the Walmart.
It will be interesting to see if the Mayor's vaunted cameras actually show or record anything.

Back to tinted windows. Tate County is the only place I've heard of that tickets dark windows that exceed the standard.
Not only black windows but tags that are covered with opaque plastic or partly obliterated by various decals and insignia, chains, college logos, etc. Frankly, all these 'dudes' who cruise around with black windows (LEO can't tell if there's one person in the vehicle or nine), are saying to LEO, "Screw you bruh!"
