Check out these pictures taken yesterday at Thalia Mara Hall.
Padlocked? Do the locks on the doors actually work?

Doors on the locks? Are you day drinking again, KF?
That’s a fire code and life safety hazard.
3…2…1 The next episode of Fascinating Horror - The Thalia Mara Hall Fire Disaster it was an entirely preventable tragic loss of life that evening at Thalia Mara Hall in Jackson, MS… due a series of poor choices that events led to the deaths of hundreds. Primarily, the fires exit doors were locked with padlock and chains FROM THE OUTSIDE!
How is this any different than the hundreds of people killed in Jackson every year? A few coins is the only outcome they care about anyway.
pretty insane. doors are supposed to lock but can be pushed open by anybody that is inside of the building. That's the way most buildings work after hours. Think the fire marshall missed that one
My guess is that the doors don’t close and lock properly, and this should be repaired. Instead they put on the chain and lock, because the doors can be pulled open from the outside.
Doubt it will ever reopen-
This is to deter vandals. The building is not in use yet. When open to the public, the chains will be gone.
The place is closed and the only thing you smooth brains can think of is a fire hazard. Truly pathetic. That's why nothing gets done in Jackson. Y'all can't see the forest for the trees.
This place is victim of the Lubumba administration. It will be opened again once Our new mayor is in office. Ditto and those guys will see to it.
The mayor seems to have things locked down.
So let's not lock our doors when it's being renovated and the tools are left inside when no one's there or they are working inside and don't want to be disturbed and don't need that egress. Think before you react. Downtown has a lot of improvements that have happened and still are happening. I made someone ride through the side streets and through Belhaven on the north side, they were pleasantly surprised. Y'all need to travel in the northeast to all those cheaply built homes and shopping centers that looked alike...not rebuild them here. They deteriorate very quickly and guess where the money moves back?

Why do they need exterior padlocks to protect the tools and renovation 10:52?
Why are the standard locking mechanisms on the existing doors insufficient?
For all the people that think Jackson is back check this out. If you own a commercial building Jackson Water charges you 300 if you don't use an ounce of water. It's because you have a 2 inch water line. Now they want to raise rates. This is the reason Jackson is done, not a padlock on the doors, but because nobody cares. Simple as that. The streets the homeless, the abandoned buildings everything nobody cares. Mark my words in won't change because there is a new mayor. The rot is entrenched.
Well if Thalia Mara Hall had working locks then chains wouldn't be needed on the door. They do make doors that open unlocked outward and still has locked access from the outside.
The smooth brain here is you.
That’s because the state Fire Marshall doesn’t know what their doing.
Talk about a s**** show.
Can’t even get in touch with em when you need em but they pop out for publicity in this stunt. I’ve called the office time and time again just to get a “I really don’t know” from that chief who also doesnt know the job. Instead of helping find a solution she gets an attitude and says “I don’t know” and will hang up on you. Don’t put much faith in them fixing anything or enforcing anything
Mike Chany do better.
@914 duh. Guess the big bad Fire Marshall of MS allowed them to do that. All that was was a show of political banter between two politicians. If they really wanted to enforce it they could have actual punishment. The place is under renovations and was when they “inspected” it.
Apparently this is what it looks like when a plan comes together.
If the thieves don’t break in using bolt cutters, the doors should remain closed because these clowns probably don’t know who has the keys to the lock.
I hate it, but 11:38 is exactly right. It's sort of like the Baby Chok administration and the Eudora Welty library: they let it deteriorate so long that it wasn't worth rebuilding. It was more efficient to tear it down and start over.
