Will Hattiesburg fugitive, Corey Ferraez, Esq., stay out of jail? The attorney is on the lam after a Forrest County Chancellor ordered his arrest a week ago after he failed to appear in court and explain what happened to a $450,000 settlement.
Ferraez deposited this check today but take a look at the amount.
The attorney claimed in a motion to vacate he had deducted his fees and loans to the client out of the settlement, hence the lesser amount. However, Chancellor Sheila Smallwood ordered him to deposit the $450,000 settlement with the Court last week. She has not approved any disbursements out of the settlement. Earlier post with complete summary of case.
The Chancellor ordered Ferraez's paralegal, Rebecca Voytek, to appear in court yesterday. Voytek appeared as summoned. Judge Smallwood questioned her if she knew his whereabouts or had access to the firm's financial records. Voytek answered in the negative.
Ferraez is still at large.

Give him a break, he is only about $235,000.00 short.
EXCUSE ME BUT ARE YOU FAMILIAR WITHE THE TERM ''BOUNCE''?......it's often used in the banking biz.
filing motions while you on the lam for an arrest warrant.
this guy need to go straight to prison.
i just hope the numb nuts with the bar and the D A office got the guts to do it.
Maybe he can work on his handwriting while serving time.
He likely guaranteed his disbarment with this gambit.
Check, rubber, 1 each.
They should have at least redacted his bank account #.
redaction is the least of his worries
He's a rookie until he is added to the DPS "Most Wanted" list.
That money will buy a lot of coke.
Watch the check bounce.
Judges cannot jail anyone didn’t you know? So he’s free to go anywhere he wants
I saw him at the Lady May Restaurant in Ocean Springs yesterday. I was calling 911 to report him as a fugitive from Hattiesburg until he said the magic word, “all food and drinks on me”, i immediately hung up!
Unless post-dated, that check was written TODAY. How is this possible unless he delivered it in person and the bank made it available to the press immediately?
The only other option is that JJ is working his usual miracles.
A copy of the check was filed in MEC (the electronic filing system the court uses). Regardless, I want to know how the check got the clerk's office? I am assuming the attorney had someone else tender it to the clerk since he has an arrest warrant out for him.
"They should have at least redacted his bank account #."
That was my first thought. It's apparently emblematic of the way he operates. He probably doesn't even know the MEC redaction rules exist.
I'm surprised this guy ever got his hands on that kind of money to begin with.
He probably would have gotten away with just this check had Kingfish not exposed his dastardly plan.
One more thing. Let's get something abundantly clear. Cory FALSELY claimed in his late-night motion that Judge Smallwood had already "approved [Cory's] attorney's fees and costs" to be withheld from the settlement. That is a flat lie. She literally did the exact opposite. In her Order approving the settlement (entered: November 26, 2024) [Doc. 43], Judge Smallwood unambiguously stated: "[T]he Court reserves ruling upon the Petitioner's request for the award of attorney's fees and reimbursement of legal expenses to her counsel, CORY FERRAEZ[.]" In other words, she explicitly has NOT approved his attorney fees. Yet after being ordered to turn over the full amount (and while still remaining on the run despite being ordered to turn himself in), he tells the Court he's keeping the ~$200k that the judge EXPRESSLY has NOT approved yet?? The guy needs to be disbarred and imprisoned. All of this is beyond inexcusable.
Does he know that come next Tuesday Antard will be available to take on a new law partner?
this kind of foolishness happens all the time with lawyers, they get client funds that they are suppose to hold and spend it on personal bullshit, and then get caught. Apparently they don't teach ethics and fiduciary responsibility to lawyers in school.
If what 2:48 says is true, then this guy has guaranteed his disbarment.
