A man freaked out when police tried to pull him over at Dogwood Festival and wound up killing three people as he fled the wrong way down Lakeland Drive even though he was not pursued.
A Flowood policeman observed Michael Donyell Watson was driving erratically as he turned into the parking lot by Half Shell Oyster House. at 7:00 AM today. The officer followed Watson as he drove from parking lot to parking lot at Dogwood Festival.
Watson freaked out and sped onto Lakeland Drive. The officer turned off his lights and did NOT chase Watson. Unfortunately, Watson fled the wrong way down Lakeland Drive. A pregnant woman and a six year-old child were in the car.
Paula Prem was driving north up the Flowood Drive overpass. The sun was probably in her eyes as Watson flew down Lakeland Drive. He crashed into her. The crash killed a pregnant Shanarne Williams (Watson's front seat passenger), the child in the back seat of Watson's car, and Paula Albritton Prem. She is the former wife of Brandon Mayor Butch Lee.
Watson was transported to UMC.
Law enforcement sources said Watson had outstanding warrants from Pearl.

No blessings in Rankin County.
Since he was transported to the U M C , I would let a first year student do whatever surgery he deemed necessary.
This is simple: law enforcement must not pursue fleeing suspects for misdemeanor offenses. Kenny Stokes has been on this for years; however this time the accident was deadly and occurred in Rankin County. For the love of God, this must stop!!
There WAS NO DAMN CHASE.
According to the FloPo
Dumb shit at 7:38, there was never a high speed chase.
The officer even turned his emergency lights off.
Jeez, take a damn remedial reading class at one of the
many local colleges.
Whatever happened to reading comprehension???
Can the public schools please teach the students how to behave if they are going to get arrested. Like, you can’t outrun the radio?
This is sad but if people like 1234 would spend more time coaching their thug friends and family to not be criminals lnstead of making excuses for them the world would be a better place .. the biggest joke of the day is Kenneth stokes .
Every law enforcement agency in MS has general orders which relate to pursuits. Let's listen to the dispatch recordings to see if the Flowood G.O.s were complied with in this instance.
7:38 As everyone said Watson Was Not pursued by police. How do you know this was a misdemeanor he may have had outstanding felony against him? Bottom line is the Police Did Not create this tragedy Watson did by putting his life above others. First thing I was taught when learning to drove is that an automobile is a killing machine if not taken with respect when operating. Quit blaming other people for Watson’s bad choice!
A good accident reconstructionist can easily determine the rate of speed of the suspect's vehicle pre-impact. Might yield relevant facts.
7:34. First year student hell; let him wait in the parking lot until the janitor shows up on Monday.
Forget the rate of speed. This criminal was driving THE WRONG WAY DOWN LAKELAND DRIVE!
classic example of how innocent people get killed and the perp lives through the accident.
this seems to happen every time.
vince neal of motley crew crossed the center line of the road and head on collided with another car. neal killed his passenger and maimed the 3 people in the other car. neal didn't have a scratch. .............sounds just like this deal.....
Why am I not surprised people are blaming the police. If the police haven't attempted to pull him over and he killed someone yall be blaming them for that. Btw this could have easily have been me. I drobe passed the scene right after it happened. If I had not stayed late at work it could have been me.
Build more jails. Hire more police. Lawlessness kills innocent people. Thank you Tate Reeves for getting MHP on 55 since JPD will not stop these YBM’s driving crazy at 100 mph
"Let's listen to the dispatch recordings to see if the Flowood G.O.s were complied with in this instance."
First thing, I bet the PD were driving in the right direction on the road. But you keep on trying to make excuses for the thug who took a beloved echocardiographer from the children with heart disease who loved her.
Moron.
how about this, PULL OVER!! if you are guilty of crime, you will get caught eventually! If the individual who, it appears, has a habitual crime habit, pulls over, NO ONE DIES!! Flowood PD has not fault here other than, other offices should have been called in when he would not stop and be compliant.
I just read about this tragedy on WLBT. The driver of the vehicle needs his head chopped off. If you can’t do the time then don’t do the crime.

You know it’s getting to the point that between 9pm and 9am you best stay in your cabin in the woods around here. It’s Jerry Springer gone wild here.
This is horrific.
Once again, running from the police has resulted in innocent being people being killed, lives ended and ruined, plus property damage and more mayhem from criminals.
We can do something about this. It is imperative we mandate a very strict minimum sentence to be served in full without any plea bargaining for committing the crime of eluding police, especially in a vehicle.
More importantly, the new law should be saturated in the media, schools and everyone must be aware of its existence.
It must contain at least 25 years in prison to be served in full.
The end result should be a lifetime of misery for the perp. No exceptions.
I blame Stokes and Chokes.
They’ve made it clear that Hinds County will not pursue criminals.
But have they hired consultants and advocates to properly educate the residents that this behavior is not tolerated in surrounding areas?
When do we find out what the warrants were for? Where is Watson from? Why was he driving erratically to begin with?
Mu understanding is,get this, ............... Felony Fleeing
I want more I go on Watson. Was he drunk? Where is he from?
8:26 has it right.
11:28 In case you haven't noticed, the trend is to let people out of prison rather than put them in. This is being called Criminal Justice Reform!!
@1:40p- The trend should be to stop coddling criminals. The trend should be to teach young people the consequences of THEIR actions versus automatically blaming police.
The reality is that reform rarely works. These people are addicted to the ease of their poor choices. Being better and doing better require effort... and most criminals, former and active, aren't willing to put forth the needed effort.
Thanks for posting KF. I was going by there around 1000 and saw MHP already doing a reconstruction. I was afraid someone had been killed. The vehicles looked really bad.
Sad also we have lost another contributing life in the much needed medical field. An echocardiography With years of experience right now must be hard to come by. Also even the baby of the expectant mother and 6 year old did not choose this path for their life. Just praying the 6 year old did not suffer long. I hold MICHAEL WATSON ALONE to blame for these deaths. This is all on HIM!
Watson isn’t being charged with 3 counts of vehicular manslaughter?
@2:54 - rehabilitation is pretty tough in our country. The first question on any job application is if you are a convicted felon. If you can’t get a job after getting out of prison, the chances at reform have to be practically zero. We need to rethink our rehabilitation process to allow some of these people a chance to be a contributing member of society. Our current system is broken.
Also, I’d be ok with taking a look at recommended sentences for fleeing the police, but there would have to be changes to make police more accountable as well. If an officer lies on a police report or acts unconstitutionally, they should be given an equally harsh penalty for eroding public trust in police.
It's 4 deaths that he's responsible for.
@1:40, the USA has the highest incarceration rate in the free world.
I would think the city of Flowood has in car cameras, dont know this for sure or if its in all cars, but most current in car systems log when blue lights are activated and permanently record video once blue lights are activated and the video cannot be tampered with.
Stokes, his constituents, the Jackson mayor, the Jackson City Council and every judge in the judicial system in Jackson and Hinds county are solely to blame for the situation the Jackson Metro area is in and for the run/flee from law enforcement mentality along with Jackson being a safe haven for those that do.
Cant really blame JPD for anything. They catch their fair share of the lawless people BUT the courts release them right back to the street with zero consequence.
Stokes is now waving his sweat rag grunting about something needs to be done about crime.........go figure that one out.
Is Watson still alive and in hospital?
"@1:40, the USA has the highest incarceration rate in the free world". Yeah, so what. Maybe because we have more people wishing to violate laws than other countries. This is what my friend says.
This reminds me of the tragedy when two UMMC medical students were hit on Lakeland Drive by a 16 year old who had gotten a new mustang. All three were also killed. I was sitting in Children’s Medical and could hear the impact all the way back there it was so loud. That young man was young and did not have a criminal record and being a young kid. This Watson guy does not have that excuse. Prayers for the families of all the victims and the people who witnessed this. Kingfish thank you for reposting the video the other day of the man who was doing over 100 mph with his Stupid girlfriend video recording all the while her child was in back seat without seatbelt. Shout out to All LEO’s writing tickets to slow speeding motorist down as school is about to start up! May God keep us all safe!
@10:18PM
I was about to ask the fourth but then I remembered the unborn child, my bad.
I have lived in Rankin County for most of my life and I am willing to bet my last dollar and yours that Flowood did not cease to follow him. Flowood has too much pride to let anybody, black or white, get away with ANY suspicious activity. The driver probably was way ahead of the police and it seemed to happen fast so FPD can cut the crop.
While the FPD may not have been behind the wheel of the car that killed 4 innocent lives, they are most certainly partially responsible for causing this disaster. They knew that this guy was wanted for felony fleeing in Pearl from JUST TWO WEEKS PRIOR!!! How did they not know they would have a potential high speed chase on their hands? THEY KNEW! They could have followed him somewhere safer to try a "traffic stop". If I were to light a cigarette, throw it out of my car window and cause a forest or structure fire wouldn't I still be held accountable? Yes I would, and so should the Flowood Police Department.
12:29 here to make up random facts
The sun was probably in her eyes? Have you seen video evidence? If not I would suggest you stop making up facts and quit putting blame on the victim.
