The Capitol Police arrested Mike McLeod and charged him with murder and aggravated assault for his role in the shootings that took place on Pearl Street after the St. Paddy's Day parade.
Eight people were shot near the 4th Avenue bar at Pearl and Lamar Streets. Cortez George succumbed to his injuries.
More arrests are expected to be made. The suspect is a police officer at UMC.
Update (10:50 AM): The Capitol Police issued the following statement.
On Thursday, March 27, 2025, 22-year-old Michael McLeod, a law enforcement officer, and 21-year-old Marquavius McLeod were arrested in connection to the shooting that occurred on Lamar & Pearl streets on Saturday March 22, 2025.
The two have been charged with each one count of murder and seven counts of aggravated assault. Additional arrests are anticipated.
This remains an open and ongoing investigation, no further comment will be made at this time. Additional information may be provided to the public when available.
Yesterday, Michael McLeod, who served as a police officer with UMMC Police and Public Safety Department for about a year, was terminated.
Mcleod was arrested by Capitol Police Thursday as a part of the investigation of a March 22 shooting in downtown Jackson. He was not on duty at the time of the shooting and his UMMC-issued firearm was not used.
Before becoming an officer with UMMC Police, McLeod held another position with the department for about six months. Prior to UMMC employment, he cleared all regular background checks and has had no disciplinary actions against him or performance issues.
Our condolences go out to the victims and their families.
We continue to cooperate with Capitol Police in their investigation.
Kingfish note: Marquavius is quite the troublemaker. JPD arrested him in 2023 and charged him with possession of a stolen vehicle. The Hinds County grand jury indicted him in 2023 for receiving stolen property. He pleaded guilty. Circuit Judge Eleanor Peterson sentenced him to serve seven years in prison but suspended the sentence.
The Hinds County grand jury indicted him in 2023 for grand larceny (car worth over $1,000). He was arraigned a year ago. No action has been taken on the case since arraignment.
He was indicted again in June 2024 for possessing a stolen firearm.
Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens told JJ that his office will seek revocation of his bond and reinstate the suspended sentence.

Does UMMC do any type of real world screening before they hire these clowns?
Apt that a McLeod is arrested at a St. Patrick's Day event
Every UMMC applicant is fingerprinted - state & federal records are pulled.
UMMC police is a joke ran by liberal administration that won't retain good officers.
Prosecutors recommended no bond for both suspects, citing the violent nature of the crime and the fact that a handgun was used. They also pointed to Marquavius’ prior record, which includes more than a dozen felony arrests.
“He has a pretty extensive crime history for his age. It goes back three years, and he’s racked up 13 felonies,” the prosecutor said.
Alexander asked whether those were convictions, and the prosecutor said they were only arrests.

Aren't there enough felons committing crimes on UMMC premises for him to shoot?
Someone has a facebook handle like "oleboiisniper"?
Who knows if there is any connection?
@10:45 - McLeod is a Scottish name. Please don't defame the Irish!
Why the hell did Circuit Judge Eleanor Peterson suspend the sentence?
McLeod? Perhaps he got triggered by someone impersonating the voice of Mister Crabs
Liberal does not come close to describing that administration.
These sorry ass judges need to be held accountable for terrorizing the community.
I was about to say the same thing lol
I understand suspending a 7-month sentence, maybe. But why would a judge suspend a 7-year sentence? Can a more legal-educated soul enlighten me?
Isn't that what a judge does when they think the convict needs another chance to start turning their life around?
"Please don't defame the Irish!" They don't want any competition
Y’all read closer - the UMMC officer had no priors, so don’t go blaming them. It’s the brother that has the priors.
Wow. Sounds like UMMC hires the rejects like the Capitol Police does.
10:44, read! "Prior to UMMC employment, he cleared all regular background checks and has had no disciplinary actions against him or performance issues."
Isn't there a "Stand your ground" law in Mississippi?
Good for Cap Police. Glad they made arrests in this case.
They clowns are the ones doing the hiring all the way to the top! What a shit show!
2:09 must be pissed off about getting a ticket from the Capitol Police
George Soros found and funded DAs that would not prosecute crime. Now were finding out thanks to USAID and the Democrats...me and you paid for this circus with Uncle Sam's credit card.
We need to start shipping these scum to El Salvador and this sh!t would stop.
@12:04
“ Why the hell did Circuit Judge Eleanor Peterson suspend the sentence?”
Because Eleanor is also Faye Peterson of Hinds District Attorney fame. Bad prosecutor, bad judge. Not dishonest, just incompetent
UMMC needs a salaried Public Relations person at this rate
Governor contact the US Capitol and find out the next flight to CECOT in El Salvador. Maybe they can stop here and pick up some of our repeat offenders.
It is a revolving door at UMMC police. Specially....trading rejects with dps.
I suspect nobody goes to the law enforcement academy with the goal of becoming a campus cop. Do the math.
Not necessary. Just bring back The Farm at Parchman.
McLeod is Scottish, but the Scots celebrate that day somewhat.
Speculate why the good brother was caught up with bad brother? Perhaps the decent bro just giving a ride to his sibling, taking him out of trouble after the shooting. Unlike most here, I respect the UMMC cop for achieving a positive career despite his troubled brother. Hope he gets a "blessing" if he's an accessory after the fact.
If that was true why didn't the good brother take his bad brother to the police station to explain everything? Maybe there was not really any good brother. Just another bad brother.
Hey reefer madness crowd...why are these shootings always happening outside the bars and overcrowded events where they serve alcohol?
