This has got to put an end to that once celebrated event, right?

Nobody succumbs. All eight are treated at UMMC at taxpayer expense.

Did this really have any connection to the parade in any way?

"This has got to put an end to that once celebrated event, right?" This was well after the parade.

Seems people need marksmanship instructions.

I helped treat the victims and all are covered by health insurance but may not meet their deductibles

One did succumb, per WLBT. Agree with calls to move ALL Parades and celebrations, even the State Fair, out of Jackson proper. The riff raft will follow but will be dealt with a bit more harsh than they are in Jackson. Unfortunate that action like this would even be needed or thought of. Damn shame.

Many hours after the parade.....but I doubt I will attend another parade.

It is hilarious to me that people are trying to "protect" the parade. OF COURSE it was connected to the parade and St Paddy's day. When else do people gather like that in downtown Jackson? "But for" the parade that gathering would not have been there. It doesn't matter that the parade my have been over. If the shooting had happened at Hal and Mals would it have been connected? Hope they cancel the entire thing...forever.

Top of the morning to you! These fatherless peeps were fighting for the pot of gold @ the end of the rainbow! Now, I will finish my Lucky Charms. Magically delicious!

There’s nothing a Democrat loves more than crime and chaos…because it keep those that don’t vote Democrat from moving into their Democrat controlled kingdom’s (cities) and throwing their sorry a___s out of office.

+1 @10:02

Anonymous said...

Yes, the "gatherings" that preceded the violence were related to the parade. Pretty much any gathering in Jackson poses a risk of gunfire.

Anonymous said...

Move the parade to Madison! Mayor Mary will not tolerate this bullshit.

Anonymous said...

How bad does it need to get? The Clarion Ledger front page headline "Irish Eyes Shining" along with drawing thousands downtown. Yet the Clarion Ledger's page 3 article is "One Dead, Others Injured in shootings after parade." Is this city and the Clarion Ledger that numb to this cycle of violence, murder, and mayhem? This type of event with this type of violence should be front and center on the front page!

When Gluckstadt is full, where next? Jump back over 59 or above Canton? Bentonia? Carthage?

Anonymous said...

Move the parade to Rankin or Madison County, we have created Mississippi's Valhalla here. In Rankin, the parade route could go down Lakeland Dr. and end at dogwood shopping center and in Madison it could go down HWY 51

Sheriff Tyree's statement is about the most logical that's came from Hinds Co in the last 30+ years

Anonymous said...

0% chance Mary allows it. The scumbags will follow. She won’t invite any risks.

Shooting happened around 8pm, parade was at 1 pm. I hate to break it to you folks trying to have the one good event cancelled in Jackson but parade was long over. Shootings happen every weekend in the bold new city, thankfully it had nothing to do with parade.

Get out NOW; while you CAN!

Much more expensive for taxpayers to treat a victim than bury one-

Anonymous said...

It may have happened after the parade but what parents would think of allowing their children go to a place that such things like that is happening at any time. I don't think there is a special time people are allowed shoot other people.

0% Chance of the parade moving to Rankin or Madison County. Our law enforcement and elected officials want nothing to do with what would come. It's always been wild, maybe not with gunshots, but with fights and other people that cant handle their alcohol. I was there 15ish years ago and had some Smith County rednecks doing donuts in a gravel parking lot slinging rocks all over vehicles. I called him out on it and told him to stop and he and his posse including Methlissa jumped out and tried to beat my ass with a baseball bat all for trying to make him be a decent human. I quit going after that. It's always been a shit show.

Anonymous said...

Parade was long over but the crowd was drinking, downtown, hours before the parade and hours long afterward. The shooting downtown was not due, specifically, to the parade but the collection of peoples and alcohol/drugs downtown most certainly was.

Your Comment is Nonsense said...

Do you even know where I59 runs?

I read a comment on FB where someone suggested moving all of these events outside of Jackson. One of the commenters said , "You're right, we'll just come to Brandon, Pearl and Madison instead." So therefore, I suspect it will not be moving. Ha. I guess if you want to go to a safe parade or event, you'll have to venture to east TN or Montana.

I wonder if the mayor's sidepiece was working at the 4th Avenue bar that day - she probably was, since the mayor was at the parade with his family.

Our Capitol city is overrun by thugs and gang violence people with guns. Anyone that goes there runs the risk of not coming home. Our police are doing everything they can, but until the culture changes and the young folks are allowed to run with guns.....Jackson is doomed. Move out people.....Jackson is too dangerous.

Some of you have poor memory retention. There have been more than a few parades in the US, even in GOP strongholds with smaller white population and with white citizens being in a huge majority , that have had parade shootings.

Not only that, the shooters have been white.

Some of you are making it clear that you are prejudiced, and ignorant of the fact that a rather large community of white and black wealthy property owners in northeast Jackson pay property taxes that support small towns all over the state, including majority white towns.

You forget that some of the wealthiest Mississippians who own international businesses live in Eastover or at the CCJ in homes that cannot be duplicated ...only copied with materials that won't stand the test of time. The state cannot rebuild what already exists in Jackson so you'd be smart to maintain it.

Every bit of Jackson from I-20 to County Line and from North State Street to the Pearl River is valuable and has 3 times more acreage than any other city in Mississippi.

Some of you seem to know " the cost of everything but the value of nothing" but worse, you are also lacking in taste and judgement. There's a difference between the Waldorf Astoria and a Holiday Inn. And, the worse thing ever would be to have some rich idiot buy Mar a Logo and then tacky it up...oh wait, that's already happened and will happen to the White House again!

I don't know how to say this without sounding racist, but imagine a parade in downtown Jackson in 1955, and then look at a parade in 2025. Two different worlds. Downtown was a thriving, beautiful place. Heck, even the segregated Farish Street was nice then! Is this what MLK marched for? What caused this "culture" to spiral so far out of control?

And what color was Cummins?

Don't forget continuing mayhem in Yazoo City projects....

The “get out now” crowd is trolling this website. No real person cares that much about kicking Jackson when it’s down. Maybe a few losers living in their mother’s basement but no one that matters.

Anonymous said...

This reminds me of when cities have "Stop the Violence" rallies that always end up in gunfire. If you have anything that attracts a crowd in Jackson, this is going to happen. Mayor Mary will barely allow out of town baseball and soccer tournaments in Madison, so there is a less than 0 chance of this parade ever setting foot in Madison.

You are delusional - I own a house in your beloved Eastover and have been trying to sell it for years until finallymy real estate agent told me I would have to drop the price by 40% to sell. I told her she was crazy - I now wish I had listened to her because today there are no buyers even with 40% off. Since I'm nearing the end of my life, I'm just going to stay where I am and let my heirs worry about the property.

I don't even like driving through Jackistan, but I certainly would never go to a parade in Jackistan that has become somewhat infamous with the stupidity that parade-goers find themselves in the midst of because of those persons who lack any common sense.

To change an ancient prayer, which read "From the fury of the Northmen save us, Lord” we now need to pray, "From the ignorance and racism of Lumumba save us, Lord."

@12:32, enlighten me a little bit if you would be se I have not been aware that local property taxes take care of other municipalities in the state. If that’s the way I am understanding your comment. Your sales tax and fuel tax and income tax takes care of other areas. I did not know that my Hinds county property taxes were taking care of Itta Bena or Belzoni or Gulfport, Tupelo or even Meridian. I need to take a look at that and if that’s the case that makes perfect sense as to why we have terrible roads in Hinds because Magee and Mendenhall along with Lumberton are getting our taxes on our property. I ponder this (sarcastically )

12:32pm is a huge part of the problem. They would never allow what needs to happen to happen in order to fix it. They also appear to be the same desperate housewife who loves to brag about Eastover and "old" money, outing herself as a country girl ho married into it. Real money doesn't talk about money honey.

And I sure wouldn't take construction advise from them. Have you ever renovated a 60 year old home or even a 30 year old home? I'm a GC. Today's materials and methods are far superior. Just because you enjoy mold infested, foundation challenged houses because of where they sit, it does not mean you are correct.

I just re-read 12:32pm's post.....pretty sure they don't understand how property taxes work either.

Anonymous said...

Remind 12:32pm that 3 of the wealthiest, most successful men in this state are a pig farmer (RIP), a chicken farmer, and a dirt mover. They wouldn't spit on Eastover or CCJ if on fire. Money doesn't equal class. 12:32pm is living proof.

Well, the Rainbow Half Marathon a week ago starting at Hal and Mals was well organized, had a great turnout and nobody got shot. It was nice to run through Jackson, except for the hills. I think better days are ahead. I might not live to see it, but its still a pretty town.

The governor has been eerily quiet about this shootout happing in front of the mansion in the capital police district.

As Colander Greene, ex-JPD spokesperson, used to say: “the victim appears deceased at the present time “.

Ok stop the press. @5:18 just blew the damn thing out of the water. He wins, hands down. (Who in the world remembers that POS?). You get the “Brittanica” prize

@7:58. She was awful. She couldn't even put a complete sentence together. Then, she came out in full support of Judge Wooten after Anthony Fox was falsely imprisoned. Surely she is not still in LE.

@10:44 AM: I think she ran unsuccessfully for either Board of Supervisors or Sheriff in Hinds County in the last election

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
