Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba is holding his regular press conference. It is live-streamed below.
* The Mayor mourned the death of Lawanda Horton, wife of former JPD Chief Lindsey Horton.
* Mayor Lumumba briefly discussed the violence that occurred after the St. Paddy's Parade. He praised JPD for helping Capitol Police. JPD took some shooting victims to the hospital.
Chief Wade said a "shooting incident" took place around the 4th Avenue Bar Saturday night. He said "lawless, reckless cowards plague" the event. JPD assigned 84 police officers to the parade detail. The SWAT team, K-9 unit, and drones were deployed. Chief Wade personally walked the parade route.
The Chief said JPD received calls about "schoolyard fights" that took place in Thalia Mara Hall parking lot. The fights were streamed. Chief mentioned girls were fighting girls and boys were fighting girls. Wigs and hairpieces populated the concrete. Everyone fled when police arrived.
* The Mayor lamented how the violence marred an event attended by more than 100,000 people. He said the violence happened despite a heavy law enforcement presence. He stressed the city needed to invest in violence prevention programs.
* Hizzoner introduced former U.S. Secretary of Education Arnie Duncan. Mr. Duncan discussed how to apply his violence prevention to Jackson. He said we have allowed to "normalize violence" in this country and have violence other countries "do not put up with."
* A reporter asked what safety protocols were in place. The Mayor said police officers and undercovers were in place. He stressed the heavy law enforcement presence. The FBI was in the command center as measures to prevent a terrorist attack as happened in New Orleans in New Years Eve.
Chief Wade said over 88,000 man hours were spent on the parade. He called the killer a coward who ran like a "cockroach when the lights come on." He said they will look at the "pop-up parties" that take place after the parade.
* Mayor Lumumba thanked Malcolm White and the Hal & Mal's family for putting on the parade.

Ludacris!
Not possIble.
Were Chowke's lips moving? Yes? He be lying.
Here's an idea. Keep criminals behind bars.
why @2:14? If all the police officers on JPD staff worked their full forty hour week on the parade and spent two entire months on nothing but, then it is possible. Surely Chief Wade has not learned from his boss Chockwe that lying and exagerating is acceptable; maybe it was only half the force was working on the parade security and have been doing nothing since Christmas. Either is possible, since it doesn't appear that JPD has done much during these past few months to provide security in any other manner.
88,000 hours. The parade happened Saturday. 24 hr days is 3666.66 days. How many cops does JPD have? Lets use 100 worked on the parade detail and investigation. That is 100 cops working 24 hrs a day for 36 days....yeeeaaahhhh
To quote Todd Snider:
They say three percent of people
Use five to six percent of their brain
Ninety-seven percent use just three percent
And the rest goes down the drain
I'll never know which one I am
But I'll bet you my last dime
Ninety-nine percent think we're three percent
One-hundred percent of the time
They say sixty-five percent of all statistics
Are made up right there on the spot
Eighty-two-point-four percent of people believe 'em
Whether they're accurate statistics or not
Now, I don't know what you believe
But I do know there's no doubt
I need another double-shot of something ninety-proof
I got too much to think about
Too much to think about
Too much to figure out
Stuck between hope and doubt
Too much to think about, uh-huh
See upcoming country shows
Get tickets for your favorite artists
They say seventy-four percent of everything you learn in college
Is a bunch a bullshit you'll never need
Eighty-three-point-four percent of everything you got
You bought to satisfy your greed
Because ninety-one percent of the world's population
Links possessions to success
Even though eighty-eight percent of the wealthiest one percent
Of the population drinks to an alarming excess
More money, more stress
It's too much to think about
Too much to figure out
Stuck between hope and doubt
It's too much to think about
Pick it now
They say seventy-four percent of all statisticians
Truly hate their fucking jobs
The average bank robber lives within, say
About twenty miles of the bank that he robs
There's this little bank not far from here
That I've been watching now a while
Seems like lately alls I can think about's
How bad I wanna go out in style
Oh come on 2:14! That's just 40 man years!!!
Who is saying a hundred thousand people were at this event? That's half the population of Jackson, there's no freakin' way.
If you are critical of clown Chowke for being obviously self-interested and corrupt, let's hold our national officeholders to the same standard
I'm guessing I'm not the only one who noticed the mayor's sudden resurgence on social media FEAT:family and his honor. He must have realized he had a real chance of being replaced and is in front of as many cameras, including his own, as possible to present his wholesome, family man image...
....is in front of as many cameras, including his own, as possible to present his wholesome, family man image...
I'm sure the cuties at the strip club in Florida are really impressed.
Tone deaf Chokwe posted the parade was family friendly. It hasn’t been family friendly in years…
Joseph Wade will say anything.
The parade was like 4 hours! Chief Wade is definitely following in the mayors foot steps. Lying
@March 24, 2025 at 3:52 PM - 2/3 the city population. But, some folks still attend from the suburbs.
Mayor, I watch your pompous ass at your pretentious press conferences and just laugh. And I’m just a regular guy, like almost everyone else. So that tells you there are a lot of regular people out here in Regularland that just laugh at you.
I will be surprised if changes are not made for next year. The tents and all that stuff need to go. You want to bring a cooler and lawn chair, fine, but that's it. No tents, no grills. After the parade is over, hustle everyone out by 6. That is plenty of time to wind down, get down, and leave town. No street parties unless you went through the special event permit process. That means fenced off, security, and insurance.
The irony of having Arnie Duncan there to help “solve” our problems is thick. Chokwe went to the bottom of the progressive “ has been” barrel to trot out the field general of Common Core; which, of course, said the answer is however you “solve” it. In fact, Chokwe likely used Common Core’s math to arrive at 88,000 “man” hours. Quite frankly, why brag about the work you put into a failure? In Chokwe’s grift-leaning mind, he’s looking to fund an additional 12,000 “man” hours and that will “solve” the problem.
Not anyone who cares about their children would take them inside of the city limits.
9:53, he crows about the number of classes who have gone through the police academy during his reign-of-error but fails to mention that only 3-7 cadets are making it onto the force. Before Lumumba the academy graduated as many, or more, officers in one or two classes and JPD has gotten through in the last five.
From the comments shared in that MT information interview article from the parade, Antard is Kaput.
"Mr. [Arme] Duncan discussed how to apply his violence prevention to Jackson. He said we have allowed to "normalize violence" in this country and have violence other countries "do not put up with.""
Jackson has a gang problem. Gangs are violent, so how about addressing the gang problem, then maybe gang violence will be reduced as a result.
Arne Duncan's home city of Chicago also has a gang problem, so he should be familiar with this issue. But instead of focusing on something concrete, which would require work, he wants to focus on changing the attitudes of 300 million people.
That seems to be typical of the grandiose "thought leaders." It's kind of Lumumba fighting the "perception of crime" for the last 8 years, which mostly seems to have consisted of hiding the crime stats.
If you watched to the end of the Detroit video you saw that they were begging the audience to just help raise a mere $10,000 now for Mayor Incompetent's defense fund. The situation is bleak.
The Chief says there were 84 officers assigned to the parade. Where were they ? I was there. Granted I only walked up and down Capitol Street and didn't walk down State Street, West Street, or Court Street. On Capitol Street, I saw about 20 who were in the parade itself, either riding a motorcycle or a horse or walking as a part of the parade, but they were not providing security. The only other officer I saw near Capitol Street was in his car parked at the intersection of President Street and Amite Street acting as a barricade to prevent cars from driving on President Street towards Capitol Street. (Coincidentally, a guy riding a 4 wheeler drove right past him, and the officer didn't stop him or tell him he couldn't ride 4 wheelers on public streets.) I didn't see a single officer walking in the crowd on Capitol Street. If they had been, they would have seen and smelled all the weed being smoked. It was all over the place. Apparently the K9 dogs don't smell too good because all of Capitol Street wreaked of weed.
As for the Chief's comment that JPD spent 88,000 man hours on the parade, that's ridiculous. If there were 84 officers there as he claims, then each officer spent over 1000 hours work on the parade. Assuming 2000 hours per year worked as an average employee, that's half a year's work for those 84 officers. Hopefully the Chief meant 880 hours, not 88,000.
I call bullshit, it was a zoo after the parade. They clocked out before the job was done
Get this man OUT! Everybody needs to vote in the Democrat Primary! Select 1 of the best known candidates and cast your vote against him! We don't need to allow him to get out of this primary.
more like a bleating
@4:40, we did hold our national leaders accountable - we voted them out last November.
Chief Wade looks stupid blaming anyone other than his team for not clearing out the parade
