Live From Downtown: Mayhem!

A homicide and more violence marred the St. Paddy's Day parade today.

First up is a brawl that took place right in front of the Governor's Mansion.

A shooting took place in the area of the parade. The Capitol Police confirmed the shooting and issued the following statement:

Capitol Police are actively investigating a shooting that occurred on Pearl and Lamar streets in Jackson this evening. Multiple individuals were shot, one individual suffered fatal injuries and one remains in critical condition. No arrest has been made at this time. Anyone with any information, please contact Capitol Police at 601-359-3125. No further comment will be made at this time.

One victim is deceased.

Moving out to Northeast Jackson, an older model truck is on fire in the parking lot of the M-Bar. The cause of the fire is not known.

Some people you can't take anywhere.

You mean to tell me that this happened while the High Sheriff Lord Tyree was parading through the downtown on his trusty horse named Jody? Unbelievable.

Anonymous said...

Why can’t we just have nice things?

Anonymous said...

KF, are you having these fights downtown staged? It looks like the same bitches in this video as the last couple, although this time they did keep all their titties covered; guess that's the difference in an afternoon brawl and one as the midnight hours witches.

All at the front gate of the Governor’s Mansion.

Tate - when are you going to ask for the National Guard to come in?

This mayhem is on the steps of the Mansion now.

Incredibly sad scene in front of the Governor's Mansion. A few bad apples spoil the whole bunch. Jackson is as bad or worse now than Bourbon Street and Beale Street in recent times. Stern city and state leadership with corresponding stern law enforcement officers CAN put a stop to this sophomoric shenanigans!! Hal and Mal's St. Paddy Day Parade used to be a fun, safe family event and now it looks like a WWE match with horrible gunshot incidents to boot!! TOTALLY SAD!!!!

Anonymous said...

If Tate does anything about it, Chalkline will just use it to grift more suckers in Detroit.

Anonymous said...

Really hoped something like this would not happen today.

9:14.
Don't insult the WWE.

Anonymous said...

Obviously somebody not wearing green got pinched and it was game on.

Hearing Jackson memorial was called

Stern city and state leadership with corresponding stern law enforcement officers can't put a stop to the problems manifested in a defective culture.

Anonymous said...

Bet this doesn’t get brought up in Detroit…right?

Anonymous said...

Hahaha! Apologies!!

It is reported that the shooting occurred in the area of Pearl and Lamar Streets, hardly in front of the Governor’s mansion, with one dead and multiple others shot.

Where did I write it did?

Same ole violence from a Democratic city.

Anonymous said...

No you but in the comments.

Anonymous said...

I don’t understand why people even go to jackson.

Anonymous said...

Crime and chaos, the Democrat tactic to keep control of inner cities like Jackson forever, since lower crime rates would mean people that don’t vote Democrat move into Jackson.

Too bad hypocrite Democrat voters that choose to live behind gates or in the Republican suburbs can’t be forced to live in Democrat cities with no gates & make their children go to Democrat public schools. Malcom X warns us about those “white liberals.”

I sure miss the City of Jackson before it became: Progressive! Radical!

Some of those Leprechauns are pretty big. Maybe the fight was over one of their pots of gold. Sad to see none of them brought their shillelagh. Great weapon for a street fight. Did the Governor start it and then run back inside when it boiled over.

@10:00pm, your comment pretty much sums it all up and it is truthful whether anyone wants to believe it or not. Here is my take on it. Don’t have the parade anymore. The Chief said he would have drones and undercover policemen. That didn’t work. Just stop having events downtown. It used to be nice to go there with your family but not so much now. Those who do not believe in the Family unit have destroyed what food was left.

My friend went to parade with me and he’s not been back to JACKSON since graduation at millsaps in 2009… he’s in Chicago and he commented that this would never happen in Chicago & the parade in Chicago only allows ppl to bring a folding chair. There were people selling goods, beer, food all over the place and with boom boxes galore. The parade isn’t what it was 5 years ago. There is zero enforcement and just chaos. Cancel parade for a year and come back with regulations and laws in place. I understand the demographics of Chicago and Jackson are very different from one another but it still hits different when someone on the outside is in total shock

Shameful. Very inconsiderate that that group did not perform their demonstration ethnic social interaction on a moving float, so that everyone could enjoy it. These sidewalk exhibitions absolutely need to be staged on a float. It is a parade after all.

I was supposed to play in that parade but could not go... looks like I dodged a bullet (literally!). Very ghetto, so sad. A friend who lives there went (who had not been in years) and said it wreaked of weed the whole time and he kept having to look over his shoulder- NOT family friendly. How do they say this parade STILL raises money for the city and Children's Hospital?

Chowke can't see this from his gated subdivision, thus a perception of crime. Right?

Anonymous said...

Come for the parade; stay for the bullets.

Anonymous said...

The shootings took place way after the parade was over and most of the crowd (and all the family crowd) was gone. The parade was great vibes

They can't hardly say it's a day of fun for the dope boys. Yet.

It is disheartening to see such crime fighting tools such as Conflict Resolution Class, Coffee with the Po-Po, Real-Time Crime Center, 911 calls, undercover agents and drones can’t stop the violence in Jackson. @10:00 PM is correct - the problem seems to be a defective culture.

St. Paddy's parade will likely suffer the same fate as Jubilee Jam -- it was was great fun until a few years before it disappeared. Jubilee Jam survived from 1986 to 2009. When public civility disappears, so does the event. When people can't feel safe taking their child to a parade or public event like that, it won't survive long.

Anonymous said...

The parade is completely different now. Just 5 years ago it was a great parade with people from all over the metro area. Hal & mals needs to reel it in and enforce chairs only. Not the huge pop up tents and cookers all over the place. It’s nuts. I won’t attend again

Anonymous said...

These ladies heard local a employer was accepting job applications at blue tent in front of the Governor's Mansion. A fight ensued as to who would be first in line.....

anonymous said...

when is this parade gonna make the cover of CONDE NAST travel magazine?

smokie said...

example 1002 , why we can't have anything in Jackson

Anonymous said...

I miss the good old days when police could stop and question those carrying guns in public. It's not just Dodge City in Jackson. If you see someone openly carrying, be smart and get out of range. Anyone who feels the need to strap on a weapon in the daytime , in public without having a badge is needing to prove he's a man,( one with probably two very small body organs)!

Anonymous said...

Surprise! The shooting happened just steps from a certain downtown bar owned by a prominent elected official under indictment. Shocker!

Anonymous said...

All that fake hair looks awfully flammable next to a propane cooker. Glad we moved the burn unit closer. Bobbing for French fries is just plain stoopid.

Anonymous said...

The shooting near the intersection of Pearl and Lamar streets = Downtown Cigar Lounge.

Anonymous said...

I went to a jazz festival on the lake in Chicago years and years ago and it was so organized and so clean! I couldn't help but compare it to Jubilee Jam.

Have avoided DTown Jxn for 20 years, especially Fairgrounds and parades. Please knock down digital parking kiosks, return to coin operated, in case I have to go to Court! Hal and Mal's is just a spit-n-git on the way to the coroners.

Can't hear the gunshots from Detroit. Right?

Anonymous said...

Two killings at the 2023 St Paddy's parade. One killing at the 2025 St Paddy's parade. Why go there?

Anonymous said...

“Perception on gunfire”.

Anonymous said...

None of this surprises me in the least.

Anonymous said...

As 8:57 am already stated, this killing happened long after the parade ended. This one appears to be more related to the downtown bars and the fine clientele that the downtown bars attract.

Anonymous said...

As Rodney King said “Can’t we all just get along”?

Anonymous said...

The bars downtown are a huge problem. The one located in the former fire nightclub location is public nuisance so is the one called taste on state street in fondren. Residents have gone to city many times with no results.

Anonymous said...

NO ONE ALLOWED TO BLOCK SIDEWALKS OR TO RESTRICT PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC PERIOD! Start enforcing that rule the day before the parade starts and avoid many of the problems that will ultimately doom the event. Make rules then enforce them!

Anonymous said...

I do believe the deceased was arrested for murder less than a year ago.

Anonymous said...

The location of the Brawl is the exact location we abandoned this year, after being there for many years, moving to in front of the Federal Courthouse. We had to leave because it was easy to see this was coming soon, plus all of the sh*t blocking the sidewalks. Tables, grills, stereo systems, even trucks backed up on the walkways basically trap you up against the barricades.

Anonymous said...

Oh, for Heaven's pluckin' sake! The parade is exactly where it needs to be. That's what state capital downtowns are FOR: big events. The very layout of the original Downtown, was predicated upon expectations of grand gatherings. That's why it makes such a good photo-op.

Why change the dynamics of an event which has grown to become the fourth largest, for that holiday, in the NATION?

As for risk, please run the odds, yourself, of a person's becoming a casualty (or get AI to do it for you). You can generalize, or add-in time-of-day, your race, location, etc.. Compare that to similar events in the French Quarter, maybe.

We never remembered to plan to attend, during the decades when we lived in the metro, but were well aware that the event provided a HUGE morale boost for the whole state. I certainly crossed paths with attendees, who were using the parking lot of the Post Office, where I had a box. They seemed uniformly-happy. Kudos, to everybody who's worked to make the event so big and so fun.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
