Well, well, well. It appears the Mexican drug cartels are not too happy right now. The New York Times reported Sunday:
One cartel leader says he’s trying to figure out how to protect his family in case the American military strikes inside Mexico. Another says he’s already gone into hiding, rarely leaving his home. Two young men who produce fentanyl for the cartel say they have shut down all their drug labs. A barrage of arrests, drug seizures and lab busts by the Mexican authorities in recent months has struck the behemoth Sinaloa Cartel, according to Mexican officials and interviews with six cartel operatives, forcing at least some of its leaders to scale back on fentanyl production in Sinaloa state, their stronghold.... “You can’t be calm, you can’t even sleep, because you don’t know when they’ll catch you,” said one high-ranking member of the Sinaloa Cartel who, like other cartel operatives, spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of capture. “The most important thing now is to survive,” he added, his hands trembling. The government crackdown on organized crime intensified after the Trump administration threatened retribution unless Mexico halted the supply of fentanyl into the United States, vowing high tariffs if the flow of migrants and drugs continued. President Trump began floating the possibility of tariffs soon after his election in November, and soon after taking office announced 25 percent levies on Mexican goods if the country didn’t act on border security and drug trafficking. The president gave Mexico a month to deliver results, threatening to enact the tariffs on March 4 if he wasn’t satisfied. Facing economic chaos, the Mexican government went on the offensive. President Claudia Sheinbaum dispatched 10,000 national guard troops to the border and hundreds more soldiers to Sinaloa state, a major hub of fentanyl trafficking where a cartel war has caused turmoil for months.... The country’s law enforcement seized nearly as much fentanyl in the last five months as it did in the previous year. Ms. Sheinbaum’s administration says it has made nearly 900 arrests in Sinaloa alone since October.... Then, last week, the Mexican government said it had begun sending to the United States more than two dozen cartel operatives wanted by the American authorities. (KF: Extradition is a huge deal to the cartels.)... Cartel members said the only reason the government hadn’t really fought them until recently was because they’d bought off enough officials. One cartel cell leader said he doubted that this new effort would seriously damage the cartel because the group could ensure its survival by bribing key officials.... Rest of article.
Couldn't happen to a nicer group of people.

Ah Amigos, just go back to your regular activity. You'll know when we're coming.
This should tell you that “attempts to stop the cartels” in the past was a bunch of bullshit.
Mexican El President Sheinbaum has stated that she will not tolerate America violating their sovereignty. However, she made no mention of which weapons systems Mexico has (likely provided by the USA) that can compete with the likes of Anduril
So the New York Times has access to multiple cartel leaders for interviews and they think they will be able to hide from us? I cry BS on the supposed interviews by this paper.
Regardless, I do hope they are scurrying like rats.
Ha! Yo Mississippi businesses hiring illegals - ICE is coming! https://www.wlox.com/2025/02/26/ice-gulfport-arrests-16-worksite-enforcement-operation/
That we have tolerated these criminal infringements of our border for so damn long in order to quietly accommodate the giant sucking sound of NAFTA's corporate benefactors is a criminal act of our federal leadership in and of itself.
Who paid the New York Times to publish this . The cartels are moving production to the United States. Until drug addiction is addressed as a societal ill, drugs will still find a way to your neighborhood .
Another reason why I'm glad I voted for Trump
I'm really surprised the NYT is reporting on this
I won't be surprised if Sheinbaum is subject to cartel assassination attempts considering AMLO (her predecessor) was in the pocket of the cartels.
JDAM's anyone?
How do you square articles like this with the reality of the drug war? There’s clearly still plenty of fentanyl to go around as it’s everywhere. At what point do increased seizures at the border translate to less drugs on the streets? I’d bet we won’t ever see a practical benefit from a slight uptick in seizures. The only way to fix the drug issue is on the demand side as we will never be able to catch enough of these shipments to affect the supply.
If it push comes to shove in the cartels' business model, there will be blood. "War atrocities" will be a cookie bake compared to what cartels will do to have their way. I'm not against crushing cartels, if that's possible; it's not a reason not to combat them. But let's all be honest and aware about it, the cartel retaliation will be brutal, and it will be done against innocents.
China lnows very well how easy it is to totally subjugate an Opioid addicted population. They will use diplonatic transportation and even drop the stuff from space if they have to. But the truth is, there are so many shipping containers coming from China that we barely acratch the surface inspecting them. Fentanyl is just the excuse needed to stop the flow of illegals. China wants American on her knees. Just a few more generations of Fentanyl, Degenerate “Urban” Culture, and TikTok will have us right were they want us.
@10:12, I'm told reliably by the all powerful 74 that marijuana solves nearly every ill known to mankind. Has something to do with its natural state.
@12:52 The weed sold in the USA is grown in the USA. Your liver stained hands can pour yourself another drink to stop the shakes.
For anyone who's been paying attention, this is all for show. Any progress against the cartels will be short-lived. We have been fighting the "war on drugs" for almost 50 years, and the only thing that interdiction does is raise the price and get people killed. As long as there is a demand, there will be a supply. Raising the price just raises the stakes for criminals, which increases violence. From a strictly financial perspective , the DEA protects the market for the cartels.
It's like the citizens of this nation learned nothing from prohibition. Absolutely Nothing. OTOH, the politicians and the prison industry learned that as long as demand stays up, they can scare the public into tougher laws and longer prison sentences.
There are over a million people eligible for deportation and ICE can easily find them. Trump has deported 50k so far , I doubt he reaches the Biden average of 55K+ a month. In his first month he did 37k , at this rate he will take 2 years to clear out those in the system. They really haven’t detained or shipped out many that they didn’t know about or were already detained . It’s all a dog and pony show. The detention facilities are at capacity. Of the 11million here illegally half make a valuable contribution to society and the other half are their dependents. Trump knows! He will deport a million or so in 2 years.
"Clear and Present Danger" Take 'em out. JDAM the labs.
I don't think Trump has fully engaged the cartels yet. When he does even the average American will see it.
Hang the Cartel banditos, wired by the ankles, from the top of the Trump Wall, Mexican side, facing South, to serve as both a deterrent and a gnawing treat for buzzards.
Plenty of ex military vets could work for bounties to bring Cartel thugs down, cheaper than DEA plus judicial processing. All we needs is a head to ID.
You're throwing a lot of numbers around Sydney, do you have links to support them?
This all sounds very believable. Totally legit.
I say we let Trump give it a go. He can't do any worse than grandpa Biden.
The CIA mouth-piece we call the New York Times is spreading the propaganda deep, wide, and it stinks to high heaven.
Exactly how far is Mexico from being a narco-state? That lady may be the head of the government, but who's turning the head.
