Gluckstadt Opposes Madison Annexation

Gluckstadt Burgermeister Bubba Morrison issued the following statement.

At my suggestion, the Gluckstadt Board of Aldermen voted unanimously to oppose the City of Madison’s annexation efforts which would largely prevent the City of Gluckstadt’ s growth to the south of its present boundaries.  Additionally, the City of Gluckstadt is also seeking annexation of much of the area sought by Madison, in an effort to protect Gluckstadt’s interests; on July 11, the Board of Aldermen voted unanimously to adopt an ordinance of annexation seeking that territory.  We have the responsibility to act in the best interest of the City of Gluckstadt, its citizens, and its businesses, and this action serves those goals.

I live in Clinton. But from what I have seen, if I lived in the area in question, I would want Mary and her crew in charge of zoning and not that group that has allowed unlimited starter neighborhoods and strip malls.

“ I live in Clinton.”

Thanks for telling us right off the bat that you don’t live in or near Gluckstadt and don’t have a clue what you’re talking about. The strip malls you see are because they were approved before Gluckstadt became a city.

I think many saw this fight by "Madison the City" before Gluckstadt's was even incorporated.

I’d chose Madison over Gluckstadt any day.

While Gluckstadt has a blank canvas and a bright future, I have already seen the nepotism and good-ole-boy system at work in that city.

I think they need to worry about their FD and PD before what Madison is doing.

Leaders of recently incorporated Gluckstadt saying this property obstructs their path for growth? Laughable. Mary will bleed their legal budget dry.

Gluckstadt are a bunch of low IQ rednecks and hillbillies. They should be so lucky to be annexed into the City of Madison. There is no finer city in this entire state!

Pearls before swine!

On most days I take a longer route to not go through Gluckstadt or get gas/groceries. Maybe when the new police station is built and paid for the speed traps will stop, but I’m not going to risk it. I can’t believe the voters in the city limits haven’t run off the mayor and chief yet. They certainly don’t need more area to work their scheme.

4:51 - you could just maybe not speed?

Madison County (or Madison "The City") is not what it used to be.

Many folks up there are starting realize this fact.

All one needs to do ... is drive around what were once exclusive
neighborhoods.

Now, unkept landscaping and government housing seems to be the trend
in some of those once nice areas.

What's next Annandale ?

I live in Reunion and travel through Gluckstadt daily on the way to the interstate. It would not bother me one bit if Gluckstadt could find some way to incorporate us into gluckstadt.

4:51 PM is correct regarding the City of Gluckstadt’s speed traps.

Take the Madison exit then go Bozeman. Stay away from the Gluckstadt exit, Calhoun Station Parkway (I miss going by Sullivan’s), and Stribling Road Ext.

For decades the City of Madison has operated as a class act city that believes strongly in law and order, but not speed trapping its citizens that pay the real estate/city taxes, school taxes and sales taxes.

Gluckstadt is the new Wilmer Alabama. Hopefully the City of Madison will kick their a___s, take in more area, and we can look to move back into its city limits.

Attn 4:37 PM, if you want to get away from rednecks and Hillbillies, why not move to Jackson? I can assure you you will not have a problem with either “social” class.

Anonymous said...

Wow. Let’s see why you don’t want Gluckstadt to be in charge of anything. 1: Their website says Meet Your Elected Officials. No one has been elected to anything yet. All appointments. 2: They have an alderman named Jayce Powell. Works at a bicycle shop. Was arrested for drugs once by county SO. 3: John Taylor. Former county GOP chairman. Advocate for Madison to be separated from Rankin in the judicial district.

Anonymous said...

Attn 4:51 I go through there almost daily. Maybe you go through Gluckstadt later at night after becoming legally drunk. Maybe you should find an alternate route. Please respond (tomorrow when you sober up.)

"I have already seen the nepotism and good-ole-boy system at work..."

The only way to avoid such things in Mississippi without replacing nearly every elected, appointed, and hired "public employee" is to move to either Louisiana or Alabama. Of course, then you'll have the issue of either LA or AL "nepotism and good-ole-systems at work."

I know it won't solve the problem immediately, but if every single elected official were voted out in their next election and replaced by ANY challenger, and the voters made it clear why they voted them out, it might begin to put some much needed fear into the new bunch. A couple of cycles of that, and things might get at least a little better.

The second best thing would be a recall system that allowed 50% plus one vote of the number of voters who voted someone in to vote them out, i.e., if the current office-holder got in with 10000 votes, 5001 votes to recall would put them on the street. And I think we all know what the reaction would be among our elected fuckups would be if such a recall system looked like it might gain wide approval.

4:03, no need to be an ass. Gluckstadt looks like Byram 20 years ago. Brand spanking new, but the writing is on the wall. They incorporated 20 years too late.

Anonymous said...

Pretty sure the original comment nailed it. Riding down Gluckstadt Rd is a lot like riding down Highway 80 back in 1985. No shortage of fast food outlets and nice gas stations.

Anonymous said...

Gluckstadt looks like Byram 20 years ago.

Actually about 30 years ago.

@4:51 PM - Don't break the law and you shouldn't have any issues. Duh.

Anonymous said...

The Gluckstadt Mayor and Council should have invoked a development moratorium immediately after becoming a city. Most of the existing/ under construction buildings are lacking in architectural design, there is no development plan, and the traffic is already becoming a gridlock situation.

Anonymous said...

6:35 PM, doubt it sounds like 4:51 is drunk to anyone else but you. Does “sound” like you “could” be employed by Gluckstadt.

4:51’s post makes a lot of sense and other LEO’s will confirm that Gluckstadt is “writing tickets right and left.” End quote.

For decades the City of Madison has operated as a class act city that believes strongly in law and order, but not speed trapping its citizens that pay the real estate/city taxes, school taxes and sales taxes.

It’s going to be a lot of fun watching Mary schooling these amateurs.

Anonymous said...

The Gluckstadt mayor wants what Madison wants, but he doesnt' want Madison to have it...because he wants it instead...and somehow he feels his is the more justified argument.

Anonymous said...

Hate to say but they still allow these little bldgs with just a front parapet wall sticking up... no sides or back to hide the truth. So, from the Interstate or other backside views, you see these 'fake' fronts with props behind them bracing them up... making them look like fireworks stands. Like down on 49 south. Not cool at all.

Also agree with the poster who said that they should hope & relish the day they could be absorbed into Madison.

Anonymous said...

7:32 nail it. G-stadt is way too late to the party. Better to leave it to Mary and the pros.

Anonymous said...

6:19 PM Does John Taylor want Madison County to be its own judicial district or does he support combining Madison County with Yazoo and Holmes County like our current old fart Lt. Governor.

Anonymous said...

How do you Maaaaadison folks see where you’re going cause you’re always looking down your noses at everyone else?

Anonymous said...

Someone please explain why John Taylor or Gerald Steen ,BOS president, want to be included with Yazoo and Holmes county. I understand Mr. Steen votes with the 2 democrats on the BOS.6:19 where is your proof Delbert wants to see that happen. Regarding annexation , there is plenty of room NW of Gluckstadt for them to annex.

Anonymous said...

Appears Mother Mary has sent out the word to her minions to start the war on Gluckstadt.

Anonymous said...

5:13, 6:35, 8:13, by chance do you know any “just maybe not speed” “don’t break the law” “by the book” “gung-ho” ticket writer for slow rolling a stop sign, speed trapping LEO’s that might have fixed a ticket for maybe someone that did a favor for them at their home, or fixed a ticket for another LEO’s friend or relative - do you?

Asking for a really good friend.

P.S. for those living or with property within the proposed annexation, you’ve got a choice between chicken salad (Madison) or chicken S _ _ t (Gluckstadt).

Anonymous said...

@7:23 Mary doesn't need to put out the word or send out memos. The citizens of Madison know the score and don't need prompting.

17th SAFEST city in these United States. Don't argue with results.

Anonymous said...

Don't blame Gluckstadt for the traffic problems. Lay those complaints directly at the feed of the Madison County BOS.

Anonymous said...

Let Madison have it, my property value will just continue to escalate , many don’t want Mary’s Madness!

Anonymous said...

I heard Gluckstadt is getting a NASCAR track.

"Now, unkept landscaping and government housing seems to be the trend

Where is there any "government housing" anywhere in Madison (the City)?

By any chance were you trying to spell "unkempt"? I am not familiar with the legal violation involving "unkept" landscaping.....

Y’all have got to be kidding. Madison doesn’t want to handle the crap they’ve got. Check
Out the June AG’a opinions.

"I would want Mary and her crew in charge of zoning and not that group that has allowed unlimited starter neighborhoods and strip malls."

Have a seat on the dunce-stool, Toodlum. Gluck has been incorporated for two years almost. All of this hodge-podge came compliments of the Board of Supervisors, over the past fifteen years.

Good to see Mary's people (all four of 'em) posting in numbers. They're unbelievably easy to spot.

Anonymous said...

John Taylor DOES NOT want the judicial lines to be redrawn to put Madison in with Holmes County. I’m not sure where this inaccurate information is coming from, but it’s not true.

Anonymous said...

As are the jealous.

Anonymous said...

I love watching the s--- on Jackson crowd get their feathers in the ruffle when someone says anything about their precious Gluckstadt.

Oh no, how could you say that about MY StorageMax.

Anonymous said...

Gluckstadt is having to deal with and do their best to fix the shit show the Madison County Board of Supervisors created. It will take considerable time to fix all of that. As a city they will be able to have more control over what goes on. 99% of the buildings (including the strip shopping centers) you see were all approved by the county. Too bad Gluckstadt couldn't incorporate 10 years ago. And everyone talks about those strip shopping centers. Open your eyes people. There are several in Madison. Ride down Hwy 51 and Main Street (north side). Maybe they are just camouflaged better. From what I see posted on the Gluckstadt page there are some really nice developments in the process of being built or coming. Give it some time.

Anonymous said...

8:48 obviously you don’t know John Taylor. He has been very vocal for several years now about Madison separating from Rankin judicial district. You must be smoking the same stuff Jayce Powell and John Taylor voted for.

Anonymous said...

Gerald Steen is largely responsible for the vast array of strip malls, gas stations and fast food dominating the landscape. My guess is he gets some kick backs. Sad that a resident on the board would sell his own community, but not surprising. Gluckstadt Road already looks like garbage. Just wait until the “shine” wears off on the new commercial buildings….then it will be an even uglier speed trap.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
