Shootout in Madison

Update: Suspect vehicle was carjacked in Canton.

A shootout took place during a police chase in Madison County last night.

Gluckstadt police said a tag reader identified a stolen vehicle on I-55 South at approximately midnight.  A police officer initiated a traffic stop.  The suspect vehicle stopped and the driver jumped out of the car.  He said the car was overheating and he needed help.  The police officer ordered him to get down but the driver jumped back into the vehicle and fled down I-55 S.

Madison police unsuccessfully deployed spike strips at mile marker 110.  The suspect vehicle got off at the Madison exist and sped down Main Street and turned onto Galleria Parkway while a passenger climbed out of the vehicle's back window and fired at the pursuing vehicle, striking it several times.  Police fire struck the suspect vehicle as well. Gluckstadt police said 25 rounds were fired in the shootout.

The suspect vehicle wrecked on the Galleria Parkway, striking a tree.  The Gluckstadt police officer covered the suspect vehicle from behind the patrol car until backup arrived.  The suspects fled into the woods.  A manhunt ensued when more police, K-9 officers, and drones arrived at the scene.  A handgun was recovered from the suspect vehicle.

Fortunately, three suspects are in Gluckstadt Police custody.  The suspects are from Canton.

The brick walls of Madison have been breached. God help us all.

We've tried telling the suburbanites over and over and over again that the Jackson filth is coming for your cozy little suburbia utopia. They fight tooth and nail to prevent the State from helping Jackson prevent and fight crime.

Anonymous said...

So, am I reading correctly that cops were returning fire while driving down the road?

Anonymous said...

Don’t eff around in Madison or Gluckstadt, police do their jobs well there.

Anonymous said...

Special thanks to all LEO involved!

I hope the K-9 had the opportunity to bite the shit out of every one of them.

Kingfish said...

Yes. You have a problem with that?

Anonymous said...

"Fortunately, three suspects are in Gluckstadt Police custody. The suspects are from Canton."
What can I say. Canton is trying like hell to be a true competitor of Jackson.
Names and pictures in the future. I'm sure our kids need someone to look up to.

Anonymous said...

Um....maybe? Driving and shooting is not as easy as they make it out to be in the movies. Every shot that misses ends up somewhere. You really think they teach that in officer training?

Anonymous said...

K-9 officers. I bet Canton suspects enjoy being pursued by K-9 officers. I laugh at that thought.

Anonymous said...

Naturally the usual clowns can't read well enough to recognize the word Canton.

Madison has no brick walls, but does have an authentic police department. They're even trained to return fire AT a moving vehicle FROM a moving vehicle. Imagine that.

Kingfish said...

Well, wannabe cop killer, the shots struck the police car and from what I understand, the windshield. When exactly is the cop supposed to defend his life? How many dead cops do you want to see? 1,2, 10? How many is enough for you?

Anonymous said...

Every time, every single time!

Anonymous said...

They fight tooth and nail to prevent the State from helping Jackson prevent and fight crime.

FALSE. Prove it.

Anonymous said...

Maybe you tail them until you are not in a highly populated area and you have support. I agree with the poster that a cop driving down a thoroughfare might not need to be shooting with his left hand while driving.

I guess we would all love to see the dash cam, there's lots left to the imagination on this description.

Anonymous said...

The crack reporters for WLBT as of this morning said the suspects escaped and had that in the title of the article. Did they just get captured this morning after that report or are they just way off on their info?

Anonymous said...

Hope the police dogs read them their rights before they gnawed that ass.

Actor Equity! How galling to stage a shootout scene between desperadoes, car to car, and cops racing along on Galleria Pkwy without inviting Jackson actor tryouts.

Anonymous said...

Police trained to shoot from moving vehicles? Lol! I’ve heard it all now… Jeezus… How about back off the pursuit if bullets are flying at you?

Anonymous said...

Thank You Gluckstadt and Madison Police Officers who are risking their life to keep us safe! They are the best of us!

Anonymous said...

I support the Blue, let’s pass stricter gun laws to get these guns out of criminal hands! Police support this across the country.

Anonymous said...

Don't criticize the police until the whole story is out. Glad they shot back and my bet is they were correct in doing so.
Thankful the police went home to their families.

Anonymous said...

Lol. I can't think of a more remote and less populated area than the Galleria Parkway at that time of night. You can see the interstate, but you would have to shoot 90 degrees off to hit a car there and there are no houses or occupied buildings that time of night for miles.

Anonymous said...

10:53 what laws do you think criminals will obey?

Anonymous said...

I would hate to know how many drivers got away with driving 37 in a 35 MPH zone while Gluckstadt was away from the speed trap.

Anonymous said...

10:56 you are quite wrong. The shootout occurred on Galleria Parkway directly behind the Ashton Park subdivision where many of us were awoken from sleep by the sound of the gunshots. In addition to our neighborhood, Fontenelle and Whittington neighborhoods are in this same vicinity. We had search lights shining through the windows of our homes throughout the night.

Anonymous said...

I am glad that the police did what was necessary to put these sorry-ass mofo's where they belong, and hopefully it's for the next 50 years or so. Shame their aim wasn't better. Letting these kinds of guys get away is a bad choice, if they will shoot at the police they definitely won't hesitate to kill any civilian in their way.

Time to move!

I’m selling my Madison home and booking it to Idaho

Anonymous said...

11:21 Calm down Karen, nobody was shooting up your neighborhoods.

Anonymous said...

11:21: This is 10:56 and I know the sound had to have been close and the suspects fled into the "woods" separating Galleria Parkway from your neighborhood, so of course the police were looking for them there with spotlights, etc.

My comment was simply that IF suspects and police could pick a place to have a shootout - which obviously was beyond the control of the police except for returning fire - that is about the most isolated place in Madison. I can't think of another stretch off the top of my head that has zero houses or activity that time of night.

Of course that doesn't minimize the fear and uncertainty of 20+ gunshots ringing out in the middle of the night near your house and the concerns you have and I would have had the same concerns if it had happened near my neighborhood. I'm sure the line of trees between that road and the neighborhood felt too thin and it all felt too close for comfort.

Anonymous said...

The Parkway runs north and south. The neighborhood is roughly fifty yards minimum from and parallel to the Parkway. No shots fired at or on the Parkway have any way to reach the neighborhood. For the trajectory expert, above, what makes you think a right-handed cop was firing from the driver's seat? Here's your dunce cap.

And when the police are searching for runaway criminals between midnight and 2 a.m., they won't knock on your door to ask if it's OK to use flashlights and spotlights in your yard. Hope none of you soiled your nightclothes.

If the police had not searched your hood with bright lights, you would complain today that they should have searched every inch of the hood.

You Karens need to find something else to bitch about.

Anonymous said...

So true 11:15 about Gluckstadt Police looking to catch the 37 in a 35 zone...that's what they're mainly focused on.

Anonymous said...

Cops really have the hardest job so teachers can shut up.

They are damned if they pursue the criminal and damned if they don't.
Madison wants tough on crime attitudes, but...not if that means flashlights outside the window once every 10 years. (gasp)

I am not saying the police are right or wrong here because I was not there and I am not trained law enforcement, but good lord people set impossible standards.

Anonymous said...

Likely scenatio: They 'jacked the car in Canton and were likely heading to Jackistan to continue their mischief, i.e. 'jacking another car, robbing people, etc.

Nipped it in the bud! Great job by the LEOs.

Anonymous said...

Anyone shooting at law enforcement should never see the light of day. Period.

Anonymous said...

Any truth the perps when arrested said "man we are not in Jackson anymore"

Anonymous said...

How many innocent people did the police place in danger with the chase and shots fired over a freaking stolen car?

Anonymous said...

"How many innocent people did the police place in danger with the chase and shots fired over a freaking stolen car?"

At midnight, not many. And, it was more than a stolen car -- it was also two felons taken off the street.

Anonymous said...

F'd around and found out.

Anonymous said...

12:30 The people in the stolen car are the ones who put innocent people in danger by refusing to pull over. When the cops went after the car and the occupants began firing at them that's when the chase became for attempted murder of a police officer, it was no longer over a stolen car. I agree with the poster above who said these people should never see the light of day again, they have proven most emphatically that they have no business being on the street.

Anonymous said...

Folks like 12:30 NEVER get it. There's always a bunch of reasons why criminals take-off running and shooting at LEO.

Anonymous said...

Not hard to tell how dumb these 3are! Who would want to steal a 20 year old civic! Come guys, y’all could have done better than that.

Anonymous said...

@9:17
Madison doesn’t have brick walls? You can only enter the city of Madison if you are in possession of a red brick!

Anonymous said...

I think what 12:30's saying is that if you just leave bad people alone they won't shoot at you. Got it.

Anonymous said...

8:58, you claim that the people in the suburbs of Jackson "fight tooth and nail to prevent the State from helping Jackson prevent and fight crime". Are you freaking kidding me and really that stupid ? It's the people in the suburbs who are sick and tired of all the crime in Jackson, unlike the so called leaders of Jackson who are apparently ok with it. It's the people in the suburbs who are fully behind the Capitol Police and expanding the CCID in order to help prevent and control crime in Jackson. But again in case you haven't been paying attention to the news, it's the leaders of Jackson and the Black Caucus who apparently have no problem with all the crime in Jackson and don't want the State's help trying to stop it.

Anonymous said...

It makes me so sad that the majority of Jackson residents really blame anyone but their own elected leaders for their plight.

You cannot combat that level stupidity with facts or reason so its pretty hopeless.

I am glad the suburbs don't love crime as much as the mayor of Jackson does.

Anonymous said...

"I think what 12:30's saying is that if you just leave bad people alone they won't shoot at you. Got it."

In my youth when I was overseas I would get shot at frequently. Guess I was perceived as the bad person.

The Madison elite love acting all superior about their real estate and material possessions. As if being sandwiched between Jackson and Canton is desirable.

Anonymous said...

@11:21 I hear gunfire on a regular basis. Welcome to my world. Oh, and get used to it.

Anonymous said...

@5:56 PM - Nope, between Ridgeland and Gluckstadt.

Anonymous said...

Residents of that neighborhood should be thankful police were suing lights trying to find the perps. They could have broken into a house and taken hostages or killed the residents and hid in the house.

Anonymous said...

Those whiners on here crying about the police spotlights should play their "karen card" and demand to speak to a sergeant.

Mican Gober said...

5:56 PM I live in Madison, and I sure don't feel like I'm elite. I live in the poor section of Madison. I drive a beat-up old dodge. I have a 30,000 dollar a year job and trying to make ends meet. IF this makes me "elite" I'm sorry you feel that way.

Anonymous said...

An upper class Madison Karen speaking, please city of Madison build a border wall to protect us from Canton and Jackson, Please!

Anonymous said...

So many stupid comments on this thread it’s hard to decide which one to address. I guess I’ll start with 12:30 PM, probably the most stupid. The answer to your question is none. If anyone was “placed” in danger, it was by the criminals running from and shooting at the police.

Anonymous said...

I'm assuming the perps ran back south and hid out behind Backyard Burger until mid-morning since, according to Kingfish, nobody is ever there to have noticed them.

Anonymous said...

i heard a radio news report that the pursuing police were shooting through their windshield, not out of the car window. that sounded totally weird to me. But if the perps had shot out the police car windshield, it would make perfect sense.

Anonymous said...

11:36 - What station and airtime? Be specific.

Anonymous said...

Pursuing police will often shoot through their own windshield if they're being fired upon. There are plenty of YouTube videos out there documenting same.

Anonymous said...

You shoot at Police expect to get shot back at. That is simple self defense for anyone not just police. And if someone is shooting at me I'm going to shoot back to try and stop the threat. It doesn't matter where I am. I want to walk away alive. These people that are talking about shooting in a "safe" place must live in a different world. Criminals don't give a damn where you are when they start shooting. Just look at what goes on in Jackson.

Anonymous said...

Time to move to Sartartia.

Been Shot At, Pissed me Off said...

@4:59 PM - You call a "time out," and ask the perp to move to a safer location before resuming the gunfire.

Anonymous said...

...Here I am picturing Elliott Ness swerving along a crooked road, middle of the night, windshield shot out by bad people, firing a machine-gun at a '47 Packard's tail-lights in the distance, siren wailing...women standing, roadside, waving handkerchiefs while clutching pearls and screaming at kids to 'Get Back In The House!'

Anonymous said...

Those arrested in this chase are CANTON RESIDENTS!
The Jackson haters biased " underbelly" is showing or else your attention span and reading comprehension could be bested by most elementary school kids and some kindergarteners.

Anonymous said...

Glad all the shots just hit the involved cars and no car except that of the perps was wrecked.

Of course, it's never occurred to any of you those who love a " chase" that stolen cars are covered if you have a comprehensive policy , taxpayers will pay for all other "damages"(collateral and to police) during a chase ( property and loss of life excepting that of the " perps").
And, everyone ignored that the " stop" was less than "successful". No 2 man patrols for stolen cars? Couldn't get a shot off at tires?

Anonymous said...

@10:43 AM - Ness would have to gone "back to the future" to have a '47 Packard, as he retired in 1942.

Anonymous said...

Why did they catch and release the 15 year old? Madison giving blessings like Hinds county now?

Anonymous said...

@7:13 AM - Nice try, Jacksonian. The 15 year old was just a passenger and didn't shoot at anyone nor did he run.

Cue the Music said...

1:09 - Sorry to blow your skirt up regarding the automobile year. I'm also sorry you don't know Ness worked a gig in retirement patrolling neighborhoods for $2.50 an hour until 1949. I learned this in a conversation with Rod Serling. Andy Rooney was present.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
