Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba issued the following statement.
"With respect to the Mississippi Supreme Court’s ruling on the Emergency Order regarding Richard’s Disposal emergency contract, it is neither surprising nor material. Per the agreement between the City Council and Richard’s Disposal, if the court ruled in the Council’s favor, then Richard’s emergency contract would end at the conclusion of whatever month the court ruled. Coincidently, the court reached it’s decision this month… the same month that Richard’s emergency contract was set to expire anyway. Therefore, while I respectfully disagree with the court’s decision, it fundamentally changes nothing. Neither the expiration of Richard’s Emergency contract nor the court’s ruling invalidate the active RFP bid which will ultimately determine trash pickup in the city. Despite statements made to the media, there are no valid negotiations taking place with any third-party vendor when it comes to trash pickup. Absent a bonafide legal dispute, per the RFP, we are legally bond to not move to a new vendorKingfish note: Respectfully disagree? Um, you got your ass kicked 9-0. You took a doddering fool's footnote and tried to create a whole new power for yourself in a way that would make any tyrant proud. The trial court called your argument nonsense and the Supremes did the say. They said something about having your cake and wanting to eat it too or something along those lines.

Chokwe needs to put Silbrina in charge of the garbage she knows how to get things done.
Well its good that he is not legally "bond", but what in the hell is he saying? The emergency contract is coming to an end and he cant contract with Richard's without the Council's OK, who is going to pick up the garbage?
Next, he will call it racist.
Hiz Honor needs to find his A** in the Hinds county clink, which of course is in Rankin county!!!!
"Legally bound to not move to a new vendor" under the RFP? Hell, he just acknowledged that the current vendor's contract expires at the end of this month; does he expect us to believe that he cannot do anything during this month to prepare for April?
It appears that his plan is to let the current contract with Richards expire, and then do what he always does when he cant get his way legally --- declare another EMERGENCY!!
Lumumba is the only 'leader' I know of that can create his own emergencies - and get away with it with all those looking on but not giving a damn.
A real leader would be issuing a new RFP three months ago, with the pending expiration of the one year contract - or, in the alternative, begin negotiations with the other responder to the 2022 RFP. But since he has made it clear that he does not want to do business with WM, he is now boxed in and has nowhere to go.
Hopefully the Council's filings in the Chancery Court requesting relief allowing them to negotiate a contract since the Mayor doesn't want to do his job.
Chokwe is just as stupid as the people that vote him into office.
What an abject fool Jackson's mayor is! If he only had the sense to realize the degree to which he's ridiculed in many circles in Jackson, and virtually all of them outside of it, he might be embarrassed. (I say "might," because based on past observations, I'm not entirely sure he has the ability to feel that emotion.)
He's a lawyer who shares about the same degree of verbosity as Algonquin J. Calhoun, and his words make about as much sense. The shame is that he really believes he makes valid points!
What are the chances the mayor finds out all about this word "bond" first hand before this is all over?
"..there are no valid negotiations taking place with any third-party vendor when it comes to trash pickup."
What's that mean? No effort being made to arrange for garbage pickup? Or no 'valid negotiations'? Perhaps 'invalid' ones, like the ones with Richards?
And what the hell is a 'third party vendor' in this situation since there are only two parties to a municipal contract? The two parties would be city, after Council approves a contract and a vendor. Where does a 'third party' enter the picture?
He better get Waste Management on the horn.
If it is not material-WHY DID HE APPEAL?
"...active RFP bid..."
If there is an 'active bid', where is the request for proposal published?
For there to be an 'active bid', there has to be an active RFP. Whoever writes his press releases may not know that.
Worst Mayor in Jackson history.
Someone put this guy in his place-
How dumb can Lumumba get...
I’ve known Lumumba for a long long time. As a lawyer he was pathetic and that’s why he is in community activism… I mean public service
What kind of dirty laundry does Richards have over Lumumba? I've never seen anyone so stupid and stubborn as him.
Mr Mayor is total fool who appears to have never finished the 6th grade. You can not veto what did not happen.
I'm not sure there is a person who exists with a bigger ego than Mayor Lumumba.
Hiz Honor the sociopath.
The kang ain't got no clothes.
Wtf is wrong with him?
"Per the agreement between the City Council and Richard’s Disposal, if the court ruled in the Council’s favor, then Richard’s emergency contract would end at the conclusion of whatever month the court ruled. Coincidently, the court reached it’s decision this month…"
I recommend Chokwe Jr. never having to appear in from of the Supreme Court. Yikes. (Also, grammar...)
Jackson is over......
Uneducated idiots keep electing antar.... I don't care.. let the people voting for this fool live with the consequences.
Capitol police coverage may offer a little bit of hope to some, but this will fail. If he capitol police actually fight crime, they will be lambasted by the media the first time a thug pulls a gun on police and gets shot. This will create a media circus what antar will use for national media coverage.
Our impotent woke local news media will chime in and blame whitey as usual..
Disclaimer: I have lived here 50 years, and it use to be a fairly nice place.
Watch Jokeway submit a list of vendors to the Council and the "list" consist of only Richard's.
Chowke is putting himself out there as a victim.
The Mayor speaks nothing but word salad! It's painful to hear or read.
Twisted Fable Nears Reality
The Emperor of raw turds and fallen bridges cries "Emergency! Emergency!" one too many times, appears nakedly, psychotically desperate in public, is consumed by his inner Evil Queen and reduced to royal scat floating gaseously atop the Pearl.
I'm with 4:22. At this point guys, just let it fall completely and maybe we can start over.
I really don't care what the Mayor and his crew do. This is what the people want. I know its hard for sane people to fathom. But the facts are, they want this. They champion him, defend him and elect him. They openly block any attempt to gentrify anything.
Let the democrats enjoy what they have built. Or ruined. ToMAYtoe-ToMAHtoe.
To survive, a democracy must have an educated voting population. You are seeing the effects of ignoring that truth. The dumbing down of the population was intentional, but that’s another subject.
It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt. Mark Twain.
"Worst Mayor in Jackson history. "
Why limit it to just Jackson?
I don't think he's very far from totally flipping out.
“Therefore, while I respectfully disagree with the court’s decision, it fundamentally changes nothing. Neither the expiration of Richard’s Emergency contract nor the court’s ruling invalidate the active RFP bid which will ultimately determine trash pickup in the city.”
It means you can’t veto a majority no vote in the future.
Ironically Chowke is KF's bread and butter. Look at all of the clicks Chowke generates on here. Win/win.
Seriously? There is plenty of other stuff to write about too. What he does is truly newsworthy though. Record murders for multiple years, first city in America to lose control of its water system and going without water for a long period of time, the coverups, etc, Do I need to go on?
If I want clicks, all I have to do is cover Madison County better than the MCJ and NS do. Trust me, Madison posts get lots of clicks.
KF. Pull the RFP ranking. I thought twice a week without those 96 gallon trash cans was WM? Right or wrong?
Yes.
7:01pm
So many posers, killers, embezzlers, grifters carjackers, race mongers, fake preachers, child rapists and putrid politicians from one end to the other of this state, yet KF favors Jackson with his attention: I appreciate his local focus and believe he has served us all with insight and grit.
My only question is can the Mayor get a personal bond to cover him signing Any contract moving forward? His play of words reminds me of Hazel & Mr. Baxter each night at dinner. Chockwe has made his own choice based on His personal decision to over rule the Council on everything. So is Chokwe throwing fate to the wind saying he will not honor the ruling of MS State Supreme Court & issue a request for RFP’s as required under his Job Description? What is the penalty for dereliction of duties as a mayor?
So he’s basically saying he’s refusing to abide by a 9-0 MSSC decision? Changes nothing and “is not material”? Jesus Christ. A full on state takeover would not be out of bounds.
The sissy ass GD City Council need to grow a pair. That means YOU Virgi and the airhead model.
No. The decision was over his vetoing contract rejections, nothing more or less.
I stopped reading at "MS Supreme Court's opinion is not material". Sorry but I refuse to let every leftist destroy every instituion that made the USA great.
Convinced he plans to take this to a total showdown and the precipice of no garbage collection. He's an extremely petty politician.
An insolent child in dire need of discipline.
He says the contract ends this month. Seems to me that the Supreme Court ruling means there is no contract with Richards period.
@7:32, correct, there is no contract with Richards. No surprise that the "journalists" at WLBTWJTVWAPTMTMFP only parrot what Lumumba demands they squawk.
As stated by the Council since There was and is No Legal Contract with Richard’s and yet the City Council graciously extended the Olive branch by agreeing to pay Richard’s GD anything is honorable! With saying that then the Mayor would be wise to begin RFP process so on April 1st smooth transition for taxpayers. Ego of the arrogant Mayor must be set aside now!
If the mayor had any sense he would pay attention to what happened in Chicago.
"Worst Mayor in Jackson history."..."Why limit it to just Jackson?"
Maybe because that's the subject of the thread and he's not served as mayor of any other town?
Chicago had its Lori Lightfoot. Jackson has it's Chokwe Lumumba.
Regrettably, only one of the above verbs is past tense.
When is the State Bar Association going to disbar the Mayor for not following the State highest Court decision?
Ross Adams is such a tool of Lumumba. No Ross, Richards was NOT lowest for the mode. Did you even graduate from high school Ross?
His statement rejects reality and ignores logic and consequences; with sixty or so more legal losses he will be as bad as a recently defeated president.
Da Mayor's gambit was always to play political and legal rope-a-dope with the Council and the judicial system just long enough for Richard's to get more effective at trash collection, so that citizens would be more likely to pressure the Council to just pay them to continue without a legally binding contract. But that's not how this works, and it will be interesting to see how this plays out as the April 1 deadline comes up. Does LL have any other cards to play besides the race card?
7:01, well, this is JACKSON Jambalaya, ya know.
