Without ownership of a problem a solution is not the responsibility of the people impacted and they instead must run to a higher master to fix it. Or they are robbing people of their pencils and paper so they can educate their kids from home. Didnt this guy hire his sister as inter-personal conflict resolution specialist? What is she doing in this role? Does anyone know of anything she is doing to earn this salary? Is she qualified for this role? Background as social worker, psychologist, etc? If I were to guess, she has a marketing, interior or fashion design background.

In today's society, politicians - on both side of the aisle - don't actually have to DO anything to get elected. Their only objective is to make you BELIEVE they're going to do something. Then, once in office, they distract the people to other things, so they don't have to do what they said they were going to do. Pretty simple model....and it continues to work!

Chicago and Detroit have had high crime including homocide rates long before COVID-19 but it is as good an excuse as any.

No Mayor can stop ill prepared, young and stupid children from having children. This cycle has existed for almost 50-60 years now and it's not stopping anytime soon. I am an African American man and my parents have been married for over 50 years. They took the time to properly raise their children and most of their neighbors did the same. Damn near 100% of the idiots that you see on the news in handcuffs are from a bad single parent home and until that narrative ceases, we will continue to have this conversation.

The one thing that Chocke is good at is blaming others for the failures of the leadership of Jackson - his and the idiots that run the City Council.

Nothing is ever the fault of the administration of Jackson - the current condition of the roads, storm drains, water or sewer; the lack of having adequate police force available to patrol the city; the inability to reopen his favorite West Jackson tourist attraction, the zoo; the inability to remove books from the libraries so that they would be usable again rather than a cost to dispose of in a landfill; the convention center's continued failure to be able to pay its bills due to the large number of 'church groups' that use it for minimum payment; the businesses and industry that are moving from the tax hellhole that provides no services; and of course, the absolute failure of the Jackson school system - (their failure is due to the creation of charter schools by 'the man' that takes away much needed revenue for the administration offices.)

I noticed he blabbered something about prioritizing human life when announcing shutting down bars. Have a hard time accepting that when you can't even take responsibility for the out of control crime, rotting infrastructure, etc.

Sadly, I see him getting a second term just through gum flapping and pretty speeches to gloss over the fact that he's accomplished NOTHING in terms of making Jackson better than it was when he was elected. Most of what has been done, such as road resurfacing projects, are mostly legacy projects that have little to nothing to do with him.

Seems pretty uncontroversial to suggest a global recession, rising unemployment, schools being out for months on end, the immense stress the virus is placing on families, and the mental health issues associated with being in various states of lockdown all might contribute to additional violent crime. Not sure why everyone here is so convinced otherwise.

You are right on track 10:57. I grew up in Jackson in the 60s and 70s and attended Jackson Public Schools with African-American students as well. Whenever some idiot said something bad about African-Americans I could easily say, "That's not the blacks I grew up with." Almost all my classmates had strong, caring families who demanded the best from their children. My HS class had a 40th reunion in 2019 and to a person my black friends were successful in both business and family. It all comes down to how they are (or are not) raised.
