Jackson City Council President Aaron Banks issued the following statement.
“When it comes to crime in the Capital City, it is paramount that the Mayor and City Council continue to stand together to send a strong/tough message. That message should seek to bring us together and not further divide us. That message, should be guided by our collective principals of wanting a city that we are not only proud to call home, but one where the criminal element is put on notice that we will not sit back and do nothing. In Jackson we are OPEN for business and starting right now we want to send the message that we are CLOSED to criminal activity.
As both branches of government in Jackson, seek ways to work together, to combat these senseless killings and help rid our streets of illegal weapons – specifically getting these weapons out of the hands of our youth – we are going to explore every avenue available. We understand that we cannot arrest our way out of what is happening in our beloved city; but we certainly can enforce the laws that are on the books and we certainly can work with every entity and branch of our judicial system to ensure that folk that continue to use violence as a means to an end, will face all of the necessary consequences afforded to them.
We must address gun shows and ensure that tougher penalties are put in place for those vendors that do not follow proper background checks and other protocol measures. We must work to strengthen our police department. We must find creative ways to address staffing issues, pay shortages and other things that hinder our men and women in blue from doing their jobs effectively. We must increase visibility.
However, even if all these measures were in place right now, we must be honest with ourselves, the culture that exists and the rapid problems we are facing, we need the community to help us. Jacksonians we can all play a role in addressing the senseless loss of life. One easy way is when you see something, say something! Even if it is a family member, we must hold each other accountable. Let us work together to prevent another senseless act of violence in our city…if you see something, say something.”

You're just trolling now.
He must be referring to those gun shows that the thugs of Jackson put on out of the back of their cars and on their streets. This is another way of saying "it ain't the criminal's fault. Its them damn Gun Show's fault."
Pass the buck. Blame someone else. That's what all politicians are good at.
Mr. Banks,
Please provide definitive proof and names of any and all vendors at the gun shows in Jackson that are violating Federal Law concerning the sale of firearms. I think you have been drinking some of Kenny Stokes' kool-aid. These vendors have worked very hard and pay a lot of money to have obtained their FFL. If you think they are going to risk losing their license just because they are set up at a gun show then you need to open your eyes. There are strict rules concerning sales of gun by these dealers and you can bet they won't risk prison time by foolishly selling firearms illegally. Have you even set foot in one of the gun shows? Have you ever tried to buy a firearm at one? I seriously doubt it.
Put Up or Shut Up!
I’m a gun toting conservative trump deplorable. I recently attended the gun show in Jackson. It’s definitely time to end gun shows. It ain’t what it used to be
Will we EVER live in a world where elected officials DON’T deflect from reality? Voters/Citizens... he basically thinks you’re too stupid to comprehend reality. Banks thinks he can throw out an excuse, you’ll buy it, and move on. You don’t let a stranger on the street call you stupid... why do you let your elected officials?
Will we ever see elected officials stand up against criminals and STOP BLAMING legit businesses?
Will our communities EVER stop believing these politicians when they spew bullshit??
Come on Jackson!!!
Internet killed them. Surprise. Much higher than gun stores or online. Not as many exhibitors as there used to be.
Yeah gun shows. Sure.
Well at least he said the word. CULTURE.
Wow! Can anybody doubt that the city council is working hard to stop all this senseless killing in Jackson. Great statements like this one from Mr. Banks is certainly the answer. I feel safer already. Don't you?
I don't think Gun shows are the only problem but they are a problem. Very obvious some people in the parking lots are selling to children
" Jackson City Council President Aaron Banks issued the following statement."
They all issue "statements".
Most of said statements is only gibberish meant to impress their "constituents " at a neighborhood fish fry.
Speaking of . . . where has Stokes been ?
His Sunday afternoon "press conferences" have been conspicuously absent the last few weeks.
Is he in bad health ?
How many documented shootings in Jackson have been traced back to gun show guns? Is it zero? That’s my assumption. Nice try banks.
^^ HAHAHAHAHAHAHA^^
“BOTH branches of government “ smdh
Why doesn't someone compile a list of several of the recent shootings and determine where the guns came from? Probably none of them purchased legally
8:06
I think more than a few could be traced back to gun shows. Of course you have a lot of stolen guns but I’m telling you. If you sit in the parking lot at these guns shows, it’s really eye opening.
Now that was funny. Banks should have a comedy show
"We must address gun shows and ensure that tougher penalties are put in place for those vendors that do not follow proper background checks and other protocol measures."
Where's the evidence of that? You can bet your ass no firearms dealer (and they all are certified) would risk his federal license by selling a firearm without a background check. And the thugs of Jackson are not paying the entry cost to attend gun shows. And what are these 'other protocol measures' he mentions?
I'd like to see a count of firearms actually purchased at these gun shows. Most attend (and pay the fee to come inside) just to look around and see classic guns and maybe the occasional rare one. A few collectors might attend and purchase one for their collection. No thug attends in order to buy a firearm. NOT ONE!
To high-five what another poster noted, at least the man did mention *culture*. Not many of his stripe are willing to do that. Stokes, the brick-thrower, will never mention culture - not that he could pronounce it.
Whether it is gun shows or armslist.com, what he really means is that it is whitey's fault. Why? Have you ever heard of a famous black gun manufacturer? Well, besides the black guy that invented the Super Soaker!
sounds like gun show vendors have nothing to worry about then.
Please tell me how you "trace" a gun back to a gunshow? If there were any record of the sale then it completely defeat the purpose of anonymously buying at the gunshow! This is why you ignorant libs can't be taken seriously. You don't even know what you are talking about!
I am 100% for legal gun ownership, and have many myself. But this past weekend I went to a gun show. I watched who was there and what they were buying. It was eye opening. No one was really looking at long guns or hunting rifles. Some people were at the handgun tables. The busiest tables by far were the tables selling extended and extra capacity magazines or clips. I thought about that, and realized that 1) there were not a lot of people at the handgun tables because of the illegal market and background checks and 2) the gun show is the only place you could buy these high capacity magazines and clips and pay cash easily. A gun show is the only place where I've seen the capacity that these guys had, other than the internet.
I agree with the comment that the internet killed the gun show. It did for the hunter and average handgun carrier. Not for others. So while I'm 100% for no government interference in the second amendment, I kind of agree with Banks in some fashion. It was eye opening to go the this past weekends show.
The Jackson criminals don't got to gun shows to buy handguns. They just roll to Rankin county and steal from pickups left unlocked at night. Easy!
He is parroting Bloomberg's narrative. A gun show has never shot anyone.
The gun shows are an issue - I still don’t understand why the gun crowd is against requiring background checks on all gun purchases. I would think the legal gun owners would also want to keep guns away from violent criminals, but I guess that is too taxing on their freedumb.
@7:37
I agree. Single shot clips are all anyone needs. Up to 10 rounds should be considered "high capacity" and require a special license. And nobody should be allowed to own more than 2 high capacity clips. It works in California. They have almost zero gun crime.
Sorry sports fans but the gun shows are not where the thugs make their contacts to get illegal guns. It's the parking lot. DUH. It's like scalping tickets at a football game. The ticket window is not where you make the "deal" on a ticket. It's the parking lot. If you want to put a stop to it demand law enforcement in the parking lot. DUH.
I have all the guns and ammo I and future generations of my progeny will ever need. I've spent the last 4 years of low prices legally hoarding enough magazines and spare parts to assemble about 50 more Glocks and AR15s.
You can go ahead and ban everyone now. I don't care. I got mine.
I would rather have the communist SJW freaks disarmed anyway before they watch The Baader Meinhoff Complex and start getting delusions about glorious revolution.
8:04, the NRA has consistently advocated for an updated background check system, but why would I need to run a background check on my son when I gift him a shotgun that's been in my family for nearly 100 years?
The left tries to conflate private sales and transfers between law abiding citizens with the sale and exchange of illegally obtained firearms between criminals.
Tracking legal private sales, transfers and inherited firearms is tantamount to the creation of a federal gun registry which will most certainly be abused and misused by someone who is politically motivated.
I've bought and sold several firearms from individuals over the years and I only buy from people I'm familiar with, or who are friends of friends; I require the buyer to produce a concealed carry permit and to sign a transfer document. When buying a firearm from an individual, I require the serial number beforehand so I can have law enforcement determine if it has been reported stolen or involved in a crime.
I doubt this kind of due diligence is taking place in the parking lot of the Trade Mart.
Gun shows have become a great place to buy trinkets and homemade bbq sauce.
" It works in California. They have almost zero gun crime." You have a link to support this idiotic statement? My brothers a cop in Long Beach and they always have gun crimes. Maybe a different California, maybe?
Someone please don't tell Mr. Banks that you can buy a $300 3D printer and make reliable ghostguns all day and night.
The FC9 is the ultimate disruptor to leftist gun control. We can even 3d print ammo cartridges now. Just give it up because you will never stop us. We are too dedicated.
"Please tell me how you "trace" a gun back to a gunshow? If there were any record of the sale then it completely defeat the purpose of anonymously buying at the gunshow! This is why you ignorant libs can't be taken seriously. You don't even know what you are talking about!
August 14, 2020 at 6:30 AM"
The stupid is dense in here.
You walk into a gun show and buy a gun from a vendor, you have to go through all of the hoops. Background check, etc. Period.
Yeah, some guy may be "walking around" but that can happen and does happen anywhere.
If Banks would try to learn what is going on instead of shooting his mouth off as he likes to do, then he would find out what happens is these little hoodlums steal guns left and right, then sell them on IG and snapchat to their buddies.
@8:24
WOOOOOOSH!
It flew right over your head!
Banks should leave these kind of pressers to Kenny.....he's much more entertaining....completely in left field but entertaining. BTW, to Kenny, we're missing Enoch. Please include him in your next Sunday afternoon show.
5:27 is right. I went to the gun show at the Coliseum last month and the place was crawling with thugs and obvious straw buyers. There was a bad, edgy vibe about the whole thing, and I couldn't get out of there fast enough.
None of the old military or high end vendors were there.
@824. Could you explain to me what a “single shot clip” is? Or maybe you’ve been in Sleepy Joe’s basement too long and could ask him for advice? Once you answer my first question could you also cite a reference regarding the CA data?
@5:27 and @11:29 sound like they have a problem with some of their fellow Americans practicing their 2nd amendment rights. It is funny how we want to be selective with certain things. How do you know if a person is a thug or not?
I was cruising a pawn shop for a deal or two on various items. I walked up to the gun counter behind this guy and his lady friend. They proceeded to start the purchase of a gun. When the background conversation came up. She stepped in and said the gun was for her, and she proceeded to provide her info. But it was him that was asking all the questions and doing all of the inspecting/handling beforehand. Do you really think that gun was for her? This guy must have had a felony?
@12:27
I'm 8:24 and my post was pure satire. I mistakenly assumed that the comment about California would make it obvious. I assume too much.
"We understand that we cannot arrest our way out of what is happening in our beloved city; but we certainly can enforce the laws that are on the books and we certainly can work with every entity and branch of our judicial system to ensure that folk that continue to use violence as a means to an end, will face all of the necessary consequences afforded to them."
WTF? So, if you can't "arrest our way out of what is happening......," but "we can certainly enforce the laws that are on the books and..........will face all of the necessary consequences afforded to them," what exactly do you plan to do? Give 'em that "eye?" Point your finger at them? Speak in a loud voice?
No, this was pure pandering. Banks knows that, in today's climate, where it's the POLICE that are clearly the problem [/sarcasm], he can't suggest that people be arrested for their crimes. He has to (a) imply that the root of the problem is someone else's fault, (b) use the word "culture," without using it in the proper derogatory sense, and (c) make everyone believe the council and Mayor are still "tough on crime."
To summarize: just another politician talking complete horse shit. He knows what time of day it is, just like the rest of us. He just can't / won't say it, because he wants to keep on being trusted by the people he's lying to. Gotta keep that "powerful" job!
@12:28
What you failed to mention is that on the application there is a question (disqualify) asking if you are purchasing the gun for anyone other than yourself. If you make a false statement about this then you are subject to prosecution. The girlfriend could be in deep s%@t.
12:28 " How do you know if a person is a thug or not?"
Because they literally wear it on the shoulder... ahhh...buttocks. There's no mistaking, they want you to know it. Simple demeanor and the way one carries themselves can be telling. And yes, the same can be said of ID'ing a hard-ass redneck.
Speaking of so-called "high capacity magazines," the Federal 9th Circuit in San Francisco just held that restricting magazine capacity is unconstitutional. Hopefully Kalifornia will appeal this to the Supremes, who would likely uphold this decision, making it the law of the land. It already is, but he libs don't recognize the Constitution.
10:02 AM's comment has got me watching every video release by deterence dispensed. I honestly had no idea how far 3d printed guns have come. I almost feel like I owe millenials an apology for the things that I've said about them. More people should know about this.

@12:28
How does one identify a thug? Generally by his deportment, dress and demeanor.
And 1:06 is right - they want you to know it.
Total troll blog. C'mon man.
