Then There Were Two

Check out the final two choices for the Mississippi State Flag:

Sucks
Really Sucks
These designs really, really suck.  Thanks to everyone for giving us crap designs.

Perhaps these two JJ designs should have been submitted.

Gosh they really are terrible.

Anonymous said...

Please let it be the first one.

The second looks too nautical. Yes, I know the story behind it, but it is far from obvious just looking at the flag why it represents Mississippi. It's a shield with waves at the top. If I need a pamphlet to explain all the hidden meanings then it is too complicated. It is also very monotonous with way too much empty blue space.

Anonymous said...

2:32 amen!

Anonymous said...

As Granny Clampett would often say to her Son-in-Law:

" Pitiful Jed . . . just plumb pitiful" .

Anonymous said...

The second one looks like a butt perched over the water.

Agreed 2:39 !

But I don't see nautical.

I see the NFL logo.

And instead of 'In God We Trust', my brain is thinking it says (officially licensed product).

Anonymous said...

#2 ! !! We can be the freight train state. I looks like the Union Pacific logo

Anonymous said...

Is that a union label?

Anonymous said...

2:55 & 2:56 Thanks a lot, now I can't unsee the NFL or UP logos in that design.

Anonymous said...

Either one would be a Good choice Good Work, committee

Anonymous said...

If you look at the shield on the 2nd flag it looks like a butt perched over the water. In that scenario, I wonder what the star represents?

Anonymous said...

They both look .....

Excuse me I had to throw up. Oh yea They both look like crap.
Come on 6th graders could do a better design job.

Anonymous said...

I'm going to vote no on every flag until the law is updated to remove "in god we trust" on the state flag.

Anonymous said...

Both are objectionable. The top one, with "in God We Trust" in very small lettering, is definitely preferable.

Anonymous said...

When you look up "fugly" in the dictionary, you will see both of these. PC is a terrible thing.

Unknown said...

Doesn't matter... the flag has lost all meaning.

Anonymous said...

Kingfish,
The JJ flags remind me of the best two episode of Star Trek: Enterprise

Anonymous said...

#1. We are the Magnolia state.

Anonymous said...

We HAD a great flag.

Anonymous said...

None of the above. Let's try this again next year.

Anonymous said...

I was against both of them until I saw the two Sodo.....pardon, autocorrect, Fondrenites get all titty-milked about the God part, now I’ll take the one with the biggest “In God We Trust”

Anonymous said...

Either one will drive any chance of any NCAA Championships away.

Anonymous said...

Either of these designs would be good. What this process (and the comments online) proves out is that most Mississippians would not be happy with any other flag, no matter what it looks like. We are a contrary people. Also, your designs do not look good, kingfish.

Anonymous said...

These two choices will definitely cement us at 50th.

Anonymous said...

Still waiting on the design we truly should have had:

A 500lb diabetic in a wheelchair at a buffet, no mask of course.

Anonymous said...

Best two options in the lot made the finals. Glad to see it. JJ's website design should give you some indication on his taste and opinion on style/design.

Anonymous said...

The Shield is a joke. The star at the top of each was put there by the Choctaw Indian Chief from what I read.

Anonymous said...

I see that the esteemed committee thinks this is a joke. Can them all, flags and committee, and start anew.

Anonymous said...

#1 Please I just cant get behind #2. When they unleashed the first 30 that was the first one I eliminated and it made it to final two is crazy

Anonymous said...

Again...why do we need a flag?

Anonymous said...

Would somebody tell Geoff Pender over at Mississippi Today that #1 only has 20 stars on it -- not 21 -- and that the gold/diamond star, obviously, stands for the 21st State -- Mississippi. Not that I like either of these. I liked the one with the river running diagonally across the flag with a small magnolia blossom in the lefthand corner, but it didn't make the final five. The one with the outline of the state was okay, but seems to me we could do much better all the way around.

Anonymous said...

" Let's try this again next year".

This goofy "one flag on the ballot" will never work.
It will be the same results over and over.

(In the near future anyway).

Delbert and Gunn seem to lack the courage to publicly acknowledge voter reality.
This seems like a warm and fuzzy way those two RINO's can stand in front of a local news camera
and continue to kick the flag issue down the road.

The results of the flag vote will be very interesting.

Anonymous said...

#1, but only if the off-center star is removed. Cant get past the uneven stars with 10 on the left and 9 on the right. It just looks off.

Anonymous said...

The mosquito flag is a far better choice than these two.

Anonymous said...

The four-snake flag is the best by far, in my opinion. It just needed "In God we Trust" on it. Too bad the creator of that flag had to be such a bitch about it, because now it probably won't ever be seriously considered.

Anonymous said...

I can't unsee the butt in the Union Pacific/US Soccer flag now.

Anonymous said...

They're both terrible...one copies the Stennis Flag and the other looks like Professional Wrestling!

Anonymous said...

the more i look at the river flag the less i like it. its too much like k swiss

Anonymous said...

Can't wait to see the state voters completely rebuke them.

Anonymous said...

In most states you could have a group of young people, skilled in the art of graphic design, knock out a couple great designs in a matter of hours.

Since most of the young crowd leaves Mississippi right after graduation, I guess they got a bunch of old people, who like wallpaper, to design the flags.

Yuck and yuck!

Anonymous said...

#2 will put MS in yet another first place ranking- the nation's ugliest flag.

Anonymous said...

The point of featuring Louisiana on our state flag is...who the hell knows?

Anonymous said...

WWJDD........................What Would Jefferson Davis Do?

Anonymous said...

How long will it be before "In Gawd We Trust" has to be removed from the flag?

Anonymous said...

Its a frigging flag folks. Take a chill pill.

When they didn't offer the NASCAR black and white Checkerboard flag I lost interest. Would have been nice to see our state flag waved at the end of every auto race.

Anonymous said...

There must be someone "in power" pushing that badge flag, otherwise it would be long gone by now. It really sux.

Anonymous said...

The people of Mississippi do not deserve a state flag.
They had one and let PC bring it down. the people of Mississippi do not have enough backbone to deserve a state flag.
Run up an old dirty pair of white underwear.

Anonymous said...

The flag of anti-US rebellion is gone. Who gives a crap what the replacement is. Sorry rednecks

Anonymous said...

I vote NO

Anonymous said...

Tater went to Millsaps...

DrLloydtraverious said...

@6:51 I fully agree with you, the PC crowd that was pushing the flag change don't live in Mississippi. If you want to make a realistic design put a Tyson chicken and some pine trees on it. I will always fly the state flag i have used the old one.

Anonymous said...

Didn't think I would miss the old flag.
I miss it a lot.

Anonymous said...

Divide the state up and Louisiana and Tennessee Annex it, then we won't have to worry about this.

Anonymous said...

Why go to all this trouble when the simple solution would have been to put a different image on the existing flag in place of the stars and bars.

Just when you think we can't be any more "Mississippi" than usual, determined to be last in all things good and first in all things bad, we continue to outdo ourselves.

Anonymous said...

As someone who loves the Supreme Being, I try to not take his precious NAME IN VAIN. And I certainly don't want CIVIL "authorities" attempting to shove that name down my throat, by sticking it on a flag.

It's sad to think how many atheists will be created, if that sacred name is placed on the flag. Faith is better, when it's a matter of personal belief and choice, rather than obedience toward implicit SECULAR authority.

Anonymous said...

I like 6:51’s dirty underwear idea. It could represent us being an embarrassing sh*t stain on America.

Anonymous said...

Somehow I knew we’d screw this up.....

Anonymous said...

The Mississippi flag didn’t bother anyone until the leftists needed something to stir up hate and divisiveness. Likewise the monuments and statues that have been there for 100 + years. They want to keep people separated and at each other’s throats so they can further their communist agenda. Look at history folks! That is how they have enslaved other countries and that is what they will do here if we continue along this path.

Anonymous said...

Never understood why we need a state flag anyway. I recognize only one flag, the US flag

Anonymous said...

The In God We Trust mandate was to satisfy the posters that 3:48 commented on. (300lb Diabetic in a wheelchair at the buffet)

That being said, I'm voting yes on either of these. While both suck, they don't represent something that should not be glorified--the CSA.

Anonymous said...

Who ever thought that the "cancel culture" crowd would rear their ugly head in MS. There is creeping socialism everywhere.

Anonymous said...

1122, can we assume from your pious position that you do not use money in any form in your life? Certainly wouldn't want you to let that little bit of government intrude into your beliefs.

Get back with us on that after you leave the ATM this morning please

Do It Over Get It Right said...

The state is full of egg-heads like 7:33 who would vote for the image of a rhino taking a dump on a sandbar, just to get past the issue. He can't get over the fact that the CSA image is history, no matter what. He can't accept the reality that when the flag issue is defeated at the ballot, the (hopefully different) committee will be sent back to their hotel room where they can order sandwiches and get it right next time. Defeating this thing in November will NOT resurrect the old flag. What hollow-heads walk among us.

Anonymous said...

At a distant, the flag with the shield looks pink, but I guess because of the way this process is going, it should be pink.

Anonymous said...

The shield looks like a k-swiss logo.

Anonymous said...

"It's sad to think how many atheists will be created, if that sacred name is placed on the flag."

"That sacred name" is already on our cash, correct? How many people have burned their greenbacks to avoid that conflict you see?

Anonymous said...

Both look like crap.......

While you're at it, get rid of the Mockingbird as the state bird and adopt
the Dodo bird!

Anonymous said...

Which one does Mississippi's three stooges(Tater,Dilbert,Herr Gunn) prefer? can we keep old one and trash theses three idiots?

Anonymous said...

Remember when you see it on the ballot, you can skip it, don't have to condone it by default. That's part of this scam.

Anonymous said...

And I'm SURE replacing our flag will cause racial unity in MS from henceforth.

Yeah. right. what a joke.

Anyone really believe that?

And now we waste time/money and end up with absolute turd designs like these two?

sad.

Anonymous said...

While it's very tempting to have a flag depicting someone's ass pressing the NFL logo, the magnolia is probably the better choice. Memorable state flags for me are: California (bear), Alaska (big dipper), Wyoming (buffalo), Louisiana (Pelican), Texas (lone star), and Washington (George). The rest: MEH.

someone said...

I don't like either one. neither has any charisma. colors are very drab.

Anonymous said...

11:51...I like you post, but surely you know the 'lone star' flew over Mississippi the day after secession as The Bonnie Blue.

Anonymous said...

@11:39
No, of course not . Nobody is saying a new flag will magically create racial unity but it is a start. And it is important that we work towards that goal.

Anonymous said...

" Memorable state flags for me are: California (bear) "

Speaking of California flags, a few years ago some crazy person(s) put the Los Angeles City flag under a microscope. The same idiots determined there was a minute little medieval castle tower in a portion of the LA "Coat of Arms" that was on the Los Angeles City flag.

Yep. That little tower was sure there !

It was a nod to the Spanish Heritage of Los Angeles.
( The Spanish kingdom of Castile) to be exact.

Long story short . . . the progressives had an "out of body" Hissy fit about slavery and that Christopher Columbus was worse than Nathan Bedford Forrest.

These people are too funny.

I doubt Chris and Nathan ever visited Los Angeles.

Man there are a lot of MS haters on here today. I get dumping on Jackson, the city basically asks for it, but the entire state? If we don’t respect ourselves no one else will respect us either.
To the Stennis people: we changed the flag ok? Sorry we didn’t pick yours. Get over it. “In God We Trust” was obvious pandering but it’s pandering for a reason. Most of the state agrees with that phrase and we need something to agree on right now.
To the Rebel flag people: Like it or not the state is moving on. The Rebel flag is not coming back. I have nothing against it but it became a distraction and hey, the war is over. Lee never wore his uniform again after the war was over. He moved on. He was a class act, let’s follow his lead. Besides, there are plenty of other issues to fight the rest of the world on.

Anonymous said...

@5:59 "The flag didn't bother anyone ...". Are you serious? That flag has bothered me since one was left in my front yard with a burning cross, all because my dad defended himself against a white man. However, I'm sure it didn't bother you.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.

Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Kamikaze will perform his new song F*** Bush, he's still a _____. Did I mention there was no referee? Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
