Federal Agents arrested James "Tim" Norman, the manager of Sweetie Pies, for conspiracy in the murder of his nephew in 2016. An FBI Special Agent stated in an affidavit:
In October 2014, James Timothy NORMAN, attempted to obtain a $250,000.00 life insurance policy on his 18 year-old nephew Andre Montgomery ("Montgomery"), for which NORMAN was the sole beneficiary, through America Insurance Company. Two weeks later, NORMAN attempted to obtain a second life insurance policy on Montgomery in the amount of $200,000.00, in addition to an accidental death rider in the amount of $250,000.00, through Foresters Insurance. This Foresters policy issued, listing NORMAN as the sole beneficiary, and NORMAN paid the monthly premiums directly from his checking account. In March of 2015, NORMAN attempted to obtain a replacement policy on Montgomery in the amount of $249,999.00, but the application was denied. The applications for all of these policies contained numerous false statements regarding Montgomery's income, occupation, and family history.Norman is in custody at the Madison County Detention Center. No bond has been set for the defendant.
On March 14, 2016, at approximately 8:02pm, Montgomery was killed by gunfire at 3964 Natural Bridge Avenue, which is located in the City of St. Louis, within the Eastern District of Missouri.
On March 10, 2016, Montgomery received an email message from tericaellis@gmail.com advising him that "I'm on my way in town." (KF: Email? Are you serious?) A search of the tericaellis@gmail.com account indicated that this email address belongs to Terica Ellis ("Ellis"), an exotic dancer residing in Memphis, TN (KF: Stripper? He used a stripper?). On March 13, 2016, the day before the Montgomery's murder, NORMAN flew from Los Angeles, CA, where he primarily resided, to St. Louis, and arrived in St. Louis at 12:12 a.m. on the morning of March 14, 2016. On or about March 13, 2016, Ellis posted on her Instagram account, with the usemame "Alexusdagreat," that she was in St. Louis and would return to Memphis on March 14, 2016. ( KF: Do these people not know there are manifests, passenger lists, and other records to document travel?)
Shortly after I p.m. on March 14, 2016, in the area of the Chase Park Plaza, two temporary phone numbers subsequently identified as belonging to Ellis and NORMAN became active in the same geographic location as numbers identified as belonging to NORMAN....
Montgomery's cellular telephone was located in close proximity to his body and was forensically examined following the murder. Witnesses at the scene of the homicide indicated that Montgomery went outside to meet someone after receiving a telephone call, and was shot and killed shortly thereafter. The forensic examination of Montgomery's phone, and subsequent investigation, revealed that the two people he spoke to within the 10 minutes prior to his death were his friend, K.T., and Terica Ellis, using Ellis phone #1. As further described herein, the location information associated with Ellis phone #1 put the phone in the vicinity of the murder at the time the murder occurred.
A review of toll records and text communications to Montgomery's phone revealed that Montgomery texted Ellis phone #1 the address of the house where he was ultimately murdered at 7:07pm on March 14, 2016. At 7:07 p.m., less than an hour before Montgomery's homicide, Ellis also placed a phone call to NORMAN phone #3. Investigators believe this was for the purpose of sharing Montgomery's location with NORMAN.
Using Ellis phone #1, Ellis was communicating with NORMAN (on NORMAN phone #1) in the time surrounding Montgomery's murder. Despite being at the scene of Montgomery's murder at 8:02 p.m., Eilis's first phone call was not to the police, but rather to NORMAN at 8:03 p.m., at which time her phone location data showed she was driving in a direction consistent with her returning to her home in Memphis, TN. Between March 15, 2016 and March 17, 2016, Ellis deposited over $9,000 in cash into multiple bank accounts, including a savings account she opened the day after the homicide. Prior to the homicide, Ellis's checking account had a negative balance.
. On March 21, 2016, after Montgomery's murder, a man identifying himself as NORMAN, and using a phone number known to belong to NORMAN, called Foresters in an attempt to collect on the life insurance policy NORMAN had obtained on Montgomery in October of 2014. Despite several additional efforts to collect on the policy since Montgomery's murder, Foresters has yet to pay out on the policy due to NORMAN's failure to provide several requested documents....
Norman is the manager of Sweetie Pie's restaurant in Jackson. Controversy erupted almost immediately when he hit town last year. He opened the restaurant in the Plaza building but was forced to close it after one day because he did not have the necessary permits. Norman brought in a large commercial smoker for the restaurant but parked it on the street. The Plaza obviously has no space for a smoker. The restaurant placed the smoker in Smith Park for a couple of weeks but moved it to the sidewalk on opening day.
Norman ran a power extension cord out the front door to the smoker. The landlord told him remove the cord. Undeterred, he ran the cord out the side door, down Amite street, up Congress Street to the infamous smoker. The city literally pulled the plug. No smoker, no food.
Sweetie Pies soon shut down the President Street site but not before Norman stole items belonging to the landlord. The restaurant reopened on East South Street.

It is what it is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I had no idea murder was involved, but this whole Sweetie Pie's thing seemed sketchy from the get go.
Everything this guy does is stupid. Amazing
Death penalty for both, obviously.
What took so long?
Was it because the alleged perpetrators managed to conceal their involvement so well?
Whars Deppity Pheel?
Is there a reason that MS Death Row residents aren't being scheduled for execution? That would be a great start for saving us taxpayers money.
If they don't wrap up all the loose ends they might skate!
Best be checking for a stripper with the stage name of Sweetie Pie.
When Norman brazenly stole the furniture of the Plaza Building in the middle of the night, telling the owner’s representative trying to stop him, just watch me, I was there the following day as a tenant, saw the empty, ripped up space, and was just horrified and angry at such an outrageously arrogant grand theft. And horrified he had been in our midst. This is a day long in coming. I wondered if it would ever happen. This is a day that has long been needed. Turns out what shocked me that day was apparently the least of it. Let justice roll on! Let it roll on until the steel bars clang shut.
KF, you did a good job of describing this guy's shenanigans when trying to operate his restaurant at the Plaza, with the foolishness of his extension cords across a major street, etc.
But you failed to continue the story of this Huckabee- after he had to close his Plaza location, our esteemed Nayor made declarations about his intent to see that Sweetie Pies would be able to relocate in Jackdon; that we needed more black owned businesses like his (k8nda like Baby Ch9ck's declarations about keeping the zoo open on West Jackson - nothings out of his power and purview)
Baby Chock got him set up, with City of Jackson help in a 'more appropriate location, since he couldn't smoke at the Plaza (as Baby Chock described, not an appropriate place for a black owned budiness)
Interesting story about how he financed opening his nice restaurant - is this a model that Lumumba is suggesting these businesses follow for their operating xapital?
My prayers are with Ms. Bobbue and her family during this difficult time. Ms. Bobbie we live you.
I'm so sorry Ms Robbe 😢 may God continue to bless you and your family
I'm sorry Ms Robbe may God grant you strength and continue to bless you and your family
I’ve wondered: where were the Jackson Police when Norman was taking the chairs, tables and restaurant equipment from the Plaza Building?
Did the Mayor try to protect Norman?
No photos of the 'stripper'? Dammit!
I know his Mother is shocked and Devastated. As well as the family. My heart goes out to her.
Good job on that story Kingfish. Much better than any newspaper.
The part being overlooked is that IT TOOK 4 YEARS to put this puzzle together.
but you people just dont understand...........this guy had his own reality tv show at one time and that means he can do anything he wants.................................................right?
The part being overlooked is that he is uncharacteristically happy during booking.
Didn't he pal around with the mayor and the mayor was bending over backwards to help this guy out? Lie down with dogs......
"Death penalty for both, obviously." Won't happen. At the minimum a plea with sentence of Life w/o Parole or Life. Regardless he will be out on Bond soon enough as this appears to be a Federal charge based on his Booking Sheet.
"I’ve wondered: where were the Jackson Police when Norman was taking the chairs, tables and restaurant equipment from the Plaza Building?" What did you think they should do, help him move the furniture. There is no crime in moving property unless theft can and is proven.
"Did the Mayor try to protect Norman?" Using the logic of some writers, we need to charge the Mayor with Conspiracy, Accessory and Accessory After the fact for the alleged crime(s).
7:00 am: Some of the most famous reality TV stars are destined by their earlier crimes for orange jumpsuits. Justice has a way of catching up to them and taking them to their final destination.
Trust no one. Not one.
Don't say Sweet Pie's was shady. This was Tim Norman not his mom who did this. She is a kind and loving woman. I am sure she and the entire family are devastated beyond belief. Don't blame Miss Robbie for Tim's actions. He is a grown man who made his choices. He needs to pay for killing his nephew.
I am paying for Miss Robbie and her family may you gain strength from the death of your grandson.
Ok, I am about to say what no one else has, so far. And, it’s something this deplorable monster actually pointed out, himself. Norman once said, in a talking head segment of the show, that the women in his family were too soft when raising the men in his family. He said, and I’m paraphrasing, ‘They let them get away with too much. I know because of how I was raised.’
No doubt my heart hurts for what Miss Robbie is enduring, right now. But, we need to be honest here. Watching that show, we saw how disrespectful and out of control he was; even toward his mother. He stole from her; lied to her and spoke to her just short of the way he would a stranger on the streets. And, we know that mess didn’t just start when he became an adult. This is a result of the way SHE raised him. And I know people will get angry reading this but, it’s the truth. Now, of course, some people do all they can to instill decency of character in their children and it can STILL go wrong. But, that is rare. Miss Robbie raised two sons. And both were criminally minded street thugs. She called the oldest, who died in gang violence “rebellious”. She said he didn’t want the lifestyle she tried to provide. Typically, that means a parent tried to GIVE the child everything, but didn’t require any responsibility or work on the child’s part. So, was Tim also rebellious? Or is it as he himself stated? - The women in this family allowed male children to get away with too much, instead of raising them with a stronger hand and higher expectations.
