What's missing from these two editions of the Clarion-Ledger?
It appears the Clarion-Ledger is going to ignore private school high school football although it did publish a story about how Ole Miss football players were protected from seeing a Confederate statue. WAPT covered the JA, JP, and MRA games as did WJTV. Perhaps Mary Irby should ask where the kids of her advertisers and subscribers go to school.

Evidently Nashville folks do not care about HS football.
Totally agree. The MRA game was tremendous. Many great story lines to build an article around. Great disservice to the schools that stepped up to the plate. Paper is bird cage liner, nothing else.
The CL ceased to be a "local" newspaper years ago. That's why small locally owned businesses are so important. CL in Jackson is only a small speck compared to when it was owned by the Hedermans.
There was a great story on the MRA game in the Dallas Morning Times. The assistant coach of the Cedar Hill team was Deion Sanders. His son is quarterback of the Texas team. But Mary Irby-Jones doesn't want to cover stories about successful black people.
In Mary Irby-Jones' mind, does she still think that the private schools (JA, MRA, and Prep) are segregated? If she does, she is an ignorant idiot.
To find the sports score for the high school games played on Friday night, see the online edition of the newspapers from Vicksburg or Columbus.
We need a local daily that will cover local high school sports; the crime in our community; the efforts of our citizens to improve lives. That is not the Clarion Ledger. They now want to cover "social justice" in the mind of Mary-Irby Jones. Advertisers and subscribers of the Clarion Ledger should now flee.
Glad to see at least one paper in the state covered some games. Pretty strong indictment of CL’s ulterior motive: cost cutting and BLM.

i’m glad to have the clinton courier. when the clinton news folded, the courier was started to fill in the gap for clinton stories. man have they delivered!
the C-L is a remnant of its shell...
I read the C-L and the Memphis Commercial Appeal daily; both are pathetic remnants of once fine publications. In today's CA the Executive Editor has a lengthy article outlining how their paper will be changing to become the mouthpiece of BLM. They will focus on "systemic racism", "social injustice", and "judicial reform". His first big move will be to introduce what is in essence "quotas" on his CA staff. For those of you who don't know, that means there are too many whites working for the paper.
There's no virtue signalling for Ms. Irby in covering local high school football games - she's only interested in social justice stories that make her feel better about herself & more moral than the rest of the great unwashed masses.
That paper would have gone to print long before the games were played. Not sure if they have high school writers anymore. The Nashville group closed down years ago. Last I heard Phoenix was running the Clarion Liar. But they are creating a Social Justice team. Who in the hell still buys that paper?
Imagine being this upset about a garbage local newspaper not covering high school football. KF did you just arrive on this planet? You know the paper is trash. Why are you surprised???
Commercial Appeal like the Clarion Liar is a Gannett Paper. Gannett ordered all their papers to create a social justice team and hire minorities. Blacks don't buy the paper do the few whites that do are being lectured to as racists.
And the Sunday edition Perspective section is now just a bunch of "guest" nobodies espousing their respective meaningless opinions on some BS topic.
I got my Clarion Ledger a couple of weeks ago on Sunday. They had left out everything except the ads. They did not take care of the issue after I emailed them. About 3 weeks ago they notified me that my credit card did not work. I had canceled it because it had been compromised. I talked to them 3 or 4 times giving my replaced card before the situation was rectified (I guess). They appear to do everything they can to run off customers. If they discontinue the crossword puzzles, I will be gone.
There's a million sites with crossword puzzles. You can buy books of crosswords. That's like people who get the paper because of the sales circulars. You can get apps for circulars. No need to buy newspapers.
@6:24,
Don't be surprised if you discover your credit card was compromised through Gannett. It happened to me about 10 years ago. Cancelled my subscription and haven't looked back. The only thing I miss is having paper to use in my charcoal chimney, and even that is abundant with JFP still hanging around.
As I recall, in recent years the C-L has not covered high school football until its Monday edition.
Nope. Started publishing them in the Sunday edition last year BUT the website stayed current. This time, there is not even website coverage.
Mary said on the front page that the paper must be 54% black and 52% female.
She has a lot of hiring to do.
No Friday preview of high school football. No Saturday coverage. No scores from around the state. No Sunday coverage. And yes, no Monday coverage.
A newspaper is supposed to cover events. Even events they may not like.
How can one not conclude that the editor is a racist? The paper is now an advocacy organ and not a newspaper.
Like most commenters I was extremely disappointed in Sundays CL. It’s obvious that the mission has been changed from delivering news to being a one sided front for diversity. Not to long ago CL had good perspective writers that made you think and sometimes laugh. It appears to be cut and paste now with no local effort . It’s obvious that Mary has 0 business sense. To make money you have to have customers who buy from the advertisers who pay for the ads. Before they turn the lights off they should do a study on customer diversity. Oh and don't forget those short Asians that aren’t allowed to play in college and pro basketball.SAM—Short Asians Matter
Yea, I'm canceling my subscription this morning. I'm of the age that I just enjoy my morning paper while I drink my coffee. I have taken the paper for the last 35 years. The past few years I have skimmed the headlines and read what appealed to me. Then went to the sports. Lately though the sports section has become as much about social justice and racial issues as it is about sports.---After reading MS Irby-Jones this weekend I have finally had enough. I refuse to patronize a business that loathes and despises me because I am a white male (seems to me that is both racist and sexist hmmm). I've been lectured to, vilified, shat upon and generally dismissed by people that don't know me but assume that because I am of a certain race and gender that I must be bad, I must be canceled. Well, I'm canceling you MS Jones and your horrible paper.
6:24, you can get the WSJ and LA Times crosswords for free six days a week, Brendan Emmett Quigley publishes twice a week for free, and if you delete your last hour's cookies right after downloading one, you can get the New Yorker's two or three times a week. A NYT crossword-only subscription is about $40/year.
Crosswords are the least reason to pay for the CL.
@7PM
You are exactly right. I’m so thankful for that liberal JFP rag! I grab multiple issues weekly and use them to start my charcoal chimney for the Big Green Egg. Thanks again JFP!
They gave more play to a clinic that caters to Transgender patients (front page above the fold, about three weeks ago) than they did high school football? Wow, that's a .... shall we say "interesting," business model.
Chain paper publishers tend to be drawn from the ranks of ad salesmen/saleswomen or circulation managers. Many of them just aren't professionally equipped to identify or confront egregious content mistakes, bias or omissions by the editorial staff. I suspect this publisher is no different. If you want to force a chain paper to be more respondent to the community and reflective of it, go though the sponsors.
