State Bean Counter Shad White issued the following statement.
Today State Auditor Shad White announced that Rebekah Turner, former Accounts Receivables Clerk for the City of Natchez, has pleaded guilty to one count of Embezzlement. Turner took cash from deposits made to her office by other city departments and converted that money to her own personal use.“The State Auditor’s Office has a zero-tolerance policy for theft of taxpayer dollars,” said State Auditor Shad White. “We will continue to work with prosecutors across the state to deliver results for taxpayers.” Turner was sentenced by the 6th District Circuit Court to 20 years with 19 suspended, 5 years of probation, and ordered to pay $5,000 in fines plus court costs and fees. Suspected fraud can be reported to the Auditor’s Office at any time by clicking the red button at www.osa.ms.gov or calling 1-(800) 321-1275 during normal business hours.
Kingfish note: Turner will serve her one year of prison on house arrest. Not a bad deal. Steal $60,000, spend a year at home.
The sentencing order states the restitution fees were paid in full.

Is anyone surprised? This is Mississippi, you know.
I would get so many projects completed with 1 year at home.
I agree, 2:16, especially with $60,000 to do them with.
Meh. White-collar crime, white-collar punishment. And a conviction on her criminal record. Mississippi likes to release murderers and drug dealers, a little embezzlement? A "don't do it again" and a pat on the ass is about par for the course here.
I'm convinced that will be repaid-
Weird. Every site from The Natchez Democrats to WLBT has her picture. Why not JJ?
If she was able to pay restitution in full, they obviously did not account for everything she has stolen.
Shad getting soft
When someone steals this much money, they have a boss who was totally asleep at the wheel, who "trusted" the employee and just abandoned their oversight responsibilities. Most of the time, in government, everyone is satisfied that they caught the thief, and the "boss" keeps their job.
