Insurance Commish Miguel Chaney issued the following statement.
The Mississippi Insurance Department (MID) Consumer Services Division handled more than 10,000 phone calls last year from consumers with insurance questions, which resulted in 1,444 formal complaints. Those cases resulted in more than $8 million recovered for consumers in 2025.
Additionally, more than 2,000 Mississippians used the Life Insurance Policy Locator Tool to recover more than $36 million in lost life insurance policies in 2025.
“The Consumer Services division helps Mississippians with complaints regarding insurance companies, producers, and adjusters. In many of these cases, benefits were not paid in full or not paid at all, and my office stepped in to make sure people got what they were owed. The average recovery per consumer, per complaint, was more than $5,400. We at MID know that every penny counts. I’m proud of my staff for the quality services they perform,” said Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney.

Impressive! This is an excellent example of a government agency working for us, not the other way around.
