Shad White responds to Favre's grandstanding accusations.
Favre defended his record, stating he returned the welfare funds in question and there was no way for him to know DHS misappropriated the TANF funds. The Southern Miss football star accused State Auditor Shad White of "tarnishing" his reputation to advance his political career.

Brett Favre is worth $100 million yet took an interest-free loan from the poorest people in the poorest state of the country.
He's tarnished his own record a few times over the years regardless of what you think about Shad.
Shad is having a bad day with that news
Farce is a business man. It’s not his fault the state offered him $$$ for commercials.
Karma is a bitch
Farce is a business man. It’s not his fault people found out the state paid him $$$ for commercials.
Looks like he has memory loss too, he knew where John Davis was getting the money.
Smart play Brett
Shad's own records show Favre still owes money, so that's a lie.
I'll be praying for him. I'm not so conformed to this world that I've forgotten about the more important things.
Heep big football player speak with forked tongue, pale face know where money come from!!! Pay'm
What moron thought it was a good idea to have this welfare queen testify about welfare reform?
Outside of everything going on involving this case, I am sorry to hear about his health. Parkinson's is a very difficult thing.
Lynn Fitch would have made a good witness too!
Certainly a creative way to get around a gag-order and tell "your side" but the text messages asking for secrecy don't do much to help claim ignorance.
Having him testify to Congress about TANF is like asking the rooster who guarded the hen house to report on the results.
Brilliant strategy Brett....and you never had to mention Phil who's responsible for the money that's on his kitchen table.
Sad to see a man who worked so hard on Sundays doing the work of the Lord to wind up sick and in poverty. Forced to play football, drink, and do Vicodin, he hardly earned 140 million dollars in his career (aside from endorsements, timber real estate, and business ventures). Now, how will afford treatment and health aides?? Heartbreaking indeed. And, to be forced to play for sympathy at a Congressional hearing!!! The ultimate indignity.
So...a sympathy reset on the TANF criming that was done to him?
Was Shad's "statement" written by an angry freshman marketing major? Shoddy work from the Shadster.
at 4:00.... if what he says is true, why aren't those two lawyers from the jones, walker law firm on the fast repack to disbarment for interviewing farve under the pretense of possibly taking him in as a client , and then sueing him civilly on behalf of the state????????????????????........some one needs to answer that question , and i mean right now! where is the ms state bar association disciplinary committee on this?????
to adam stone and katy pickett of the jones walker law firm................farve makes some serious allegations of ethecial misconduct at 4:oo..............any denials???????????????
I'm not a Farve fan, but the fact that IHL and AG attorneys reviewed aspects of this, knowing themselves where the funds were coming from, is a valid point. It is the job of the paid state employees and contractors to protect TANF funds, not the job of the public. if it is the public's, then I say put those who issued opinions that this is ok in jail. And I agree with the fact that Shad, while trying to torch Farve, has not done anything aimed at his former boss. If Shad truly was trying to protect the state, he would have to be taking a look at hard actions towards a certain former boss. If Farve is guilty, then Feel is guilty. No way to leap-frog on this.
Are you sure that Favre is worth $100,000,000.00 ? You might want to re-check that. Remember the old saying, " a fool and his money are soon
parted " ? It is like a disease for some people. The more you get, the more that you want, and all of the " get richer fast " investment schemes quickly eat away at all of the hard-earned cash that you made playing ball.
I will also quote Springsteen from Badlands. '' A poor man wants to be rich, a rich man wants to be king, and a king wants to rule over everything."
Let the pissing contest begin (or start again) between Favre and White
Clearly Brett Favre is really the victim in all this. Keep whining Brett, it’s really working.
Favre got lil Shad and team over here freaking out!
People on welfare can't afford Parkinson's treatment, but they can play volleyball at USM, so there's that.
As one with Parkinson's, it will balance any good times. Terrible disorder to have to live with.
The funniest post I’ve seen: I guess the good lord is trying to shake loose some of the stolen millions. Parkinson’s sucks , but so does Brett Favre, so who cares?
mea culpa-
The votes are in...$100,000,000

To be paid to give talks and no meetings were arranged is not his fault. If Nancy new paid him upfront instead of when the talk was over that's just dumb and bad business, which was a shinning example of her life. I think all he owed was the fees paid back no interest. The volleyball building donation is another story, you could smell the problem with that.
What did Nancy New know and when did she know it?
To all you crazy #u&%s complaining about every different perspective on this,
Ya’ll know you live in Mississippi, right? Or do you?. Do you think you’ve made enough progress because it’s 2024? (Hint: Progress isn’t measured mearly in time)
This will fade away.
Where was Shad & his auditors when all this money was being stolen? Where were the Feds? More to this story than Shad’s book.
100%
Shad prosecuted as soon as he knew. Brett being paid b4 speaking engagement is illegal by State accounting & payment policies. His text speak for themselves. MS Swindle is worth reading.
Favre established the Brett Favre Fourward Foundation in 1996. In conjunction with his annual golf tournament, celebrity softball game and fundraising dinners, the foundation has donated more than $2 million to charities in his home state of Mississippi as well as to those in his adopted state of Wisconsin.
Favre is involved with youth who are ill. Favre was awarded the Chris Greicius Celebrity Award from the Make a Wish Foundation. He is also known to respond to requests made to his foundation regarding youth with serious illnesses such as cancer.
And still one of the best football players to ever play the game from Mississippi.
The Budgets and Accounting Director at MDHS knew damn well giving these TANF funds in question to Brett et al was criminal. But when the Big Boss says pay it, you pay it!!! Case closed, why you picking on me! Just trace the paperwork, this shigity ain’t rocket science.
Wow 8:05. Then does that mean that he is no longer a thief, or that his " good deeds " outweigh his sticky fingers ?
The jealousy on this thread is deafening.
Hitler had Parkinson's.
I'm not suggesting anything to invoke Godwin's law, just pointing out that a real and serious physical condition today is not relevant to whatever may have taken place prior to this diagnosis. Especially when numerous others were involved in the situation.
@9:27 - keep sniffing his jock, good luck
All the starving and homeless children in MS should cry a tear and send it to Kim.
Exactly right. Everyone should be allowed to steal millions of welfare money, then get found out, pay back part of the money, and sue everyone who calls them out for it. It’s just not fair that Brett is allowed to steal this money while the rest of us have to work like schmucks.
What an insult to those who have this awful disease and to their loved ones.
Parkinson's doesn't turn you into an unethical person or a crook.
Unlike Favre they are courageous in their battle and try hard not to be a burden to their loved ones!
Favre isn't fit to wipe the boots of the friends I've had battling that disease!
Look, I despise what him and Bryant and Co did but a clarification is necessary. They didn’t take money from poor people they took it from taxpayers. Poor people didn’t earn it, it’s not theirs. It was taken from people who made it and given to others who did nothing for it
Brett did not steal that money, the boss approved the deal and John Davis of MDHS gave it to him!
Well Brett, welcome to the club. It gets frustrating at times but take your time.
Just because it was your brother that robbed the bank and not you doesn't mean you don't have to give the bag of money back when the police come knocking!
He’s been “shaken” so long it turned into a medical condition.
How about all that money back in exchange for your nervous system
9:37 For the win & 100% Correct
Friday night high school football not looking so good with all this CTE lately.
Yes indeed.
He returned the questionable payments and has been proven guilty of nothing.
I'm no fan of Favre, but you people are ignorant claiming Favre took money from anyone, that includes the auditor's office. He received money from those that did take money. I think all of you, that believe he took money, need to look up the word stolen, and the word take. You're jealousy of Favre because he's everything you can never be, and that jealousy is causing you to not think logical.
to 1:26....to answer your question, , the ms state bar association disciplinary committee is either busy deciding where too go to lunch or at lunch.
Agreed 3:59. We both know that at one time he had a fortune. But, how long has it been since he threw a football and got paid for it ? And the opeiod addiction was also most likely part of an addictive personality. In other words, those gambling boats on the coast are pretty close too Kiln. Addicts (if they have the money), also will try and play the stock market, and spend a fortune on buying " Growth Stocks, " in an attempt to make money fast, but we all know how volatile the market can be, and how quickly you can loose your ass. And when that happens, most people are so embarrassed about it that they will not tell anyone, especially if they are a National football star.
This, along with the fact that he has been involved in several business ventures that failed miserably, makes me suspect that his financial status might not be as lucrative as some are led to believe.
I do not know Mr. Favre personally, and what he has, or does not have, is none of my business. I have heard from some that Mr. Favre is a wonderful great person, and I have heard from others that he is a complete total A**H**e. If he is innocent of what he is being accused of, then I hope that he and his family will be O.K. But if he is guilty, then I guess that the old saying about the chickens coming home to roost might be true.
@1:46 - one problem with that theory, why was Brett Favre so insistent that the source of the money not be made publicly known. If he knew the source of the money was on the up and up, why insist on secrecy? I’ll help you out on this as you probably can’t figure it out, Brett knew the source of the funds and didn’t want to his name associated with stealing welfare money.
How can I , a multi-millionaire, also get signed up for free government money? Are Phil and Brett going to help me get a million dollars? Why do only pseudo celebrities get the stolen millions?
You used nearly 12 lines of text speculating about something you said was none of your business. Bless your heart.
I have come to the conclusion, that a lot of comments here defending Mr. Favre must be coming from him, his family, or his friends. If anyone thinks that Mr. Favre did not know where the money was coming from, please check the text's. If this is not proof enough for you, then you must be mentally challenged.
@ 11:07 - It's not a matter of knowing where the money was coming from. That's not the responsibility of a recipient of a contract. The State, through its Attorney General, Department Heads at DHS and the State's governor had already signed off on the legality of the whole thing.
What's up with all the various fonts appearing in Shad's submittal. Looks like a 1980's era cut and tape of a ransom note.
Now, to Favre's request for confidential treatment. He wasn't asking for a violation of law or that any misdeed be covered up. He simply asked that (what he considered legal after AG review, DHS approval and Governor's involvement) not be advertised. Every day we read about 'confidential donors'.
The lynch-mob mentality here is disturbing. Sounds like a bunch of lightweights who can't stomach an alpha-male. Same as the Never-Trumpers.
@11::56 - even the dumbass mentally challenged Brett Favre knew the source of the money was a problem. Let that sink in. The man was incredibly dumb even before he took those thousands of hits to the head. Even in his limited mental capacity, he knew this was wrong, he just didn’t care. Trump and Brett are 2 scammers who think alike, how can I get mine without getting caught? That doesn’t make them “Alpha” any more than it makes the millions of like minded thugs in prison Alpha. They are just shitty people who only care about themselves.
A couple of readers feel the need to post comments about Favre's dick pics every time Favre is mentioned on this site. They just have to make sure everyone KNOWS it. Well, knock it off. Everyone knows about it and it has nothing to do with these stories . Take your obsession with his manhood to another website. Comments are not being approved. I allowed them before but you abused the privilege so privilege revoked.
Slightly off topic except not really.
Former Vikings quarterback Tommy Kramer announces he has dementia.
Not defending Favre or anyone else in this fiasco, but his knowing where the money came from and knowing the legalities of how it was used are not the same thing. He may have known it was coming from "welfare money" but that does not mean he knew it was illegal. It would be reasonable to speculate that he didn't want it spread around that he was accepting big bucks from such sources or that he didn't want the public to know specifics about his business. Speculating that Brett Favre had personal knowledge of the law on this kind of thing is a bit of a stretch. Speculating that he had a duty to research the law and the source of and restrictions upon the money is simply incorrect. However, if some evidence produced that he was told it was illegal and he continued on, he has a problem. Speculating that Shad White would do something for political reasons in furtherance of his own interests is not that far-fetched.
I would suggest a big problem is that the spectators want to pick sides and there just isn't a "right" side from which to choose. It's like a gang of bootleggers robbed a gang of dope dealers to finance a bookmaking operation at their whorehouse, but the cops are willing to just make a few low-level CYA busts if their cut from the bosses of both gangs is large enough.
Is this a sad situation ? Yes it is. The main problem that I have is that the funds in question were for the people who have to struggle financially just to be able to feed their families. But I do agree with Kingfish that there seems to be a lot of people posting here with a great hatred of Mr. Favre. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I do not know the man, and have never met him,
but the the verbal attacks on he and his family personally really need to stop.
And even though I have never met the man, in my openion he is a great football legend. He is right up there with Jaworski, The Mannings, Namath,
Theisman, and Brady. He is from Mississippi and I am very proud of him for his great athletic accomplishments. He did pay the money back (- interest ), after he made a very bad decision to be a part of this mess. And no, the man is not a brain surgeon so I do not think that he masterminded this criminal fiasko, and if you look at the booking photos of the ones who did plan it, they look like products of inbred incest and should be a perfect example why brothers and sisters should not sleep together. It is no surprise that they were caught. And I do hate to say this, but the man who appointed the failed wrestler to head D.H.S. ( even though he had no qualifications to be appointed to this position ) was involved right to his neck in this mess. Phil always said that he was 100% pro Law Enforcement, and hated criminals, but now I'm not so sure. Why has Shad not gone after him ? Well, we as southerners, do feel a certain loyalty and obligation toward those who do us favors, especially if that favor is kickstarting someones career. So, as this saga continues, ( even though elements of the Mississippi good-ole-boy political system would like to see it go away, but it was Federal Money, so it will not ) more dominos will fall.
And I will give Mr. Favre some free legal advice ( as I said, I don't know the man, but I like him ). If the person posting on this site claiming that others took the money, and gave it to Brett, and Brett had no idea where the money was coming from, is associated with your legal team in any way, then please fire their ass immediately. From what little evidence has been presented, if this is going to be the defense, it will get you sent straight to prison. Believe me, anyone, with any sense at all, can see right through that.
If you want an expert, that can really advise you, then there is someone who lives in your neck of the woods who is the master. He enriched himself and his friends with billions when he spent 4 years as the Mississippi Attorney General ( by using the office for monetary gain ), while at the same time, convincing everyone that he was the " Great Savior " of the people from the evil tobacco companies. And he did it all legally. It was one the greatest scams in U.S. history, right up there with Enron, Worldcom, Wall Street scandal, Bernie Madoff, etc. I'm talking about Mike Moore, and how he used his elected State Office position to push through the biggest scam in Mississippi history, so that he could enrich himself and his Gulf Coast Lawyer friends , and he did it all legally, so that it could not come back on him. So if you need some good legal advice, he is the person that I would call and he could probably recommend someone to you who is very experienced in matters such as this.
What’s the latest on Nancy’s sentencing
Are you so illiterate that you can't comprehend the difference between receiving, and taking? I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you. Brett Favre took nothing. And hell naw I ain't family of his, nor am I a friend.
The onus of legality rest on those contracted to the state government, and the legal departments of the state that signed off on this incident. Not Brett Favre.
Yes, I do understand the difference. The text messages prove that he knew where the money was coming from. So, if someone embezzeles $100,000 from a bank, and then gives me half of the money, and I had knowledge of, or knew where the money came from, and I kept the money, but then the person who took the money to begin with gets caught and it is found out that I have profited from this criminal activity, simply paying the money back upon request does not automatically recuse me of criminal activity.
But please relax, because if Bretts Attorney ( if the Feds become involved ) can convince a Federal Judge that since these funds had already been turned over to the State, that no Federal Jurisdiction exist, and therefore request that the case be remanded to State court. And if this works, the case will disappear over time and never be mentioned again. Hey, I'm a Brett Favre fan, and I do not want to see anything bad happen to him, so please stop with the name calling. You are hurting my feelings, and I'm very sensitive. ( boo hoo )
I told you Not to try and use this " I did not know that the money was embezzeled or stolen " defense, because the electronic trail has already proven otherwise. And if this goes to Federal Court, I can assure you that the Federal Jury Pool will consist of very educated people, not a bunch of idiots from the Mississippi Delta that can't read or write, so given the evidence, it's not going to be hard for them to figure it out.
But here is an idea. Mr. Favre is a man who has amazing athletic ability, and as I have said before , he is one of the best quarterbacks that this nation has ever produced. I personally believe that there is nothing that he can't do with a football, so I do not want to see anything bad happen to him. I respect the man and I am a big fan of his, so I hope that his legal troubles go away.
That being said, I have a great idea for a legal defense for him. We all know how amazing he is athletically, but on the intellect side of things, he is greatly lacking, so, why don't we have his legal team do this ( if this mess goes to Federal Court ). During opening statements, go ahead and admit that Brett sent the text's ( since this has already been established anyway, and can't be denied ), but that even though he sent the text's, he still did not understand that the money was taken illegally, and that he really did not have an understanding of anything about this entire situation that was going on. Let the Jury know that Mr. Favre suffers from " exasperating obtuseness, " and that you can prove this.
Then, once the trial starts, introduce exhibit A, which will be a video clip of Mr. Favre's little acting stint on the movie, " there's something about Mary."
( is there any way that you post that on here Kingfish ? It's on Youtube ). The Jury will surely be able, after they watch this, to make the determination that Brett is incredibly intellectually challenged, and he really had no idea what was going on. It reminded me of the " Rocky II " film when Rocky tried to do commercials. It really did not go so well. Anyway, show the Jury that clip, and Brett should be home free. You have heard of the insanity defense haven't you ? Well, you could name this the Dumb Ass Defense
