The grades are out for Mississippi schools and Jackson metro area schools fared pretty well. Clinton led the pack as usual with the highest-scoring "A" and proficiency scores. Jackson and Canton earned "C's" but held their gains as just a short while ago, they were "D's". How did your school fare? Check below.

These rankings are heavily weighted toward schools may not have been as strong but have made improvements. If you're just looking at grades, it can be very deceptive. For example, Puckett and Holmes Central are right next to each other on the scale, but when looking at student performance they are in no way similar.
Students at Brandon scored much better than certain "A" schools, but their level of improvement was not a much, henceforth "B" for them.
If choosing where to live based on where you want your kids to go to school, this is a terrible ranking system.
The Jackson and Clinton scholars are working hard-
Clinton High school is slipping! Germantown, Madison Central Still strong! Ridgeland and velma jackson hurting the over all.
How does Hattiesburg get an "A" with a 579?

FUD
Common theme regardless of district: Reading proficiency is the weakest link.
@11:27 nailed it. Reading proficiency. Drill down on that.
As a longtime Clintonian, I honestly don't see how Clinton keeps their scores up. Clinton schools have changed drastically since I attended. I talked to an educator there and was told that students are taught how to test and that is it.
The only way that JPS could raise their scores is if some grease was involved.

I too wish people would check their privilege and send their kids to schools with low ratings 🙄
I looked-up 'FUD' in the Urban Dictionary. I'm still unsure what you meant. Are you talking about Cryptocurrency, or about naughty parts?
How do Jackson residents lie with themselves. Owning a school system devoted to supervisory paychecks instead of teaching children to read or writs. Shameful.
"I too wish people would check their privilege and send their kids to schools with low ratings 🙄"
They are saying schools that 'improve' get higher ratings. If you are already at the top it is very hard to stay there. A school may score 90% or above but has a B rating because they didn't 'improve', yet another school may get an A rating school because they 'improved' from 70% to 80%.
My wife teaches and she agrees it is difficult to understand how some 'failing' schools can still 'improve' and look like a good school.
It should be obvious why the reading proficiency scores are abysmal. The districts haven’t figured out how to “game” the reading proficiency portion of the testing. Kids either learn how to read and how to comprehend or they don’t. Rote memorization doesn’t help.
12:17, you clearly no longer live in Clinton and are only making excuses for whatever district you are in. Yes Clinton has changed, it is blacker now. And the town is thriving and the schools continue to excel. Mind blowing to boomers like you.
All you south jackson grads from the 70s and 80s thought that moving to Rankin or Madison for the "good" schools would help little Johnny. What you did was bring their averages down.

Speaking as someone who lived in Clinton through the 90s and moved back in 2014 (and has since left) I would not classify Clinton as "thriving" unless you're comparing it to Jackson. It's treading water compared the other suburbs but I attribute that to having the albatross called Hinds County to contend wih. Please don't interpthis as disparaging Clinton. It is near and dear to my heart having grown up there.
All the districts are graded the same. So all of you bitching about the weighted grades based on improvements, get over it. It's giving school districts helping the kids in the lower 25% excel a better grade. Would you rather the school districts focus on the the smart kids and leave the failing kids behind just for a good grade? It's just an incentive to catch the lower tier students up. Is it perfect? Not at all. If you feel your child is getting drug down by this system, make sure they enroll in accelerated classes which every district offers..
This Jim Hill Tiger used his South Jackson privilege (and his brain) and put his kids in Madison schools. I'm guessing that 12:42 did not put his kids in Lanier.
I was pleased to see Jim Hill with a good score, a B, but I wouldn't send my kids there.
I'm surprised with the Brandon H.S. score. What are their past scores?
What is going on with the reading scores? There is such a discrepancy with the other subjects. I would assume the kids must be able to read and comprehend their history and science books to score high in those subjects?
@7:00 AM They don't need good reading schools because they can watch Youtube videos at home.
Agree with 7:00am. How are you illiterate but succeeding at history and math? How is inability to read not directly correlated and lowering all other scores?
@6:29. I see that I triggered you! As a matter of fact, I am 40 years old and have lived in Clinton for most of my life. I definitely would not say Clinton is thriving. We are stuck in Hinds County, which will always be to our detriment. West Jackson is slowly encroaching, and Clinton will look like an entirely different place in 10-15 years. Take that as you will. I have always said that if the schools fail or public safety fails, it will be the end of Clinton. Both of those will happen eventually. There is a reason that most city employees (mainly police and fire), move outside of Hinds County once they retire.
