He can appeal the sentence. The notice of appeal says he is appealing the sentence and all rulings (on motions).

I think it's pretty common in criminal cases, since the lawyer for the appeal can't very well blame the trial lawyer for dropping the ball if they are one and the same person.

I am not a gambler, but I’ve spent a lifetime reading people’s faces. I have never met Brett McAlpin, but the pictures I’ve seen of him read pure evil, every picture I’ve seen. This man has mistreated and abused many people for a long time, and it’s documented that this was reported to Sheriff Bryan Bailey, and he and The Rankin Co Attorney did nothing. The Mississippi Attorney General did nothing. Why? Does Bailey have such power that they are afraid of him? It took the federal government, the FBI, the DOJ to stop “ the goon squad.” I hope every past arrest the men made are investigated, as they should be. The Rankin Co Sheriff’s Dept, run by Bryan Bailey will live in infamy, as many dirty cops in a dirty department run by a dirty sheriff. “ the only thing needed for evil to perpetuate, is that good men do nothing.” The citizens of Rankin County deserve better.

Yes , I do believe a lot of people were scared of him and being retaliated against. However I think the tide has turned and his days are numbered! We Rankin county folks are embarrassed and tired of him!

I know Brett Mcalpin, he isn’t evil. He has seen a lot of horrific things and was fed up with trash. Since he has been gone there has been more crime in rankin county. Deaths and just bad things. It’s not necessarily a race issue but honestly it doesn’t matter what anyone that isn’t white does now. Because only non white police officers are allowed to do something about it. It has gotten to the point where even the white people that don’t see color in other human beings are being treated like they have no rights to do anything other than back down and shut up . It’s pure ignorance all around and everyone wants to call Brett evil and say he tortured people but he was actually a good man that did a lot of good for this county , yes he made some very bad choices and has the rest of his life to pay for it. But it’s sickening that these people all around keep talking about him without knowing anything but what the media has said. He saved more lives than he ruined. He spent 27 years keeping trash away from this county and he might have roughed some people up but those mistakes were made and are being paid for. Every one is so stuck on judging him when he’s already been judged. Maybe all of you should pray about it and maybe God will show you that your hate is no different than his. I’ve seen him do so many more good things for people than he ever did to hurt them. He isn’t hateful or evil, he didn’t touch anyone that didn’t deserve it. You have grown men out here with child pornography everywhere and raping small children that he saw day in and day out. The drugs the trash the murders. He was not perfect and should have stopped what happened to the two men, but tearing him down when he’s paying the price is wrong too. You never know what you would do in a situation until your in it. He got his punishment and shame for his wrongs and so will each of you judging him beyond his judgement. I will never justify his actions completely because they were wrong, but I see murderers pedophiles rapist and truly evil people get less time then he got. No matter how that’s argued it’s true. He was sentenced based on outsiders seeing color and pressuring for the max, he was sentenced unfairly but not one person on here knows him. Just enjoy talking about his pictures and looking evil.
