Recovery?

Check out the Cock of the Walk parking lot at 7 last night.

The restaurant posted this message on Facebook Thursday:

We want to address a recent misunderstanding regarding a post made by a former employee. The information shared was inaccurate and we sincerely apologize for any confusion it may have caused.
We are aware of the accusations made and want you to know that cleanliness and safety are of the utmost importance to us. We continue to strive to prepare and serve food in a great environment that meets all expectations and re-quirements, the way we have for decades.
On Tuesday, the health department came to do an inspection of the restaurant. Unfortunately, just before their arrival, we had a mainline water pipe break occur in our kitchen. We voluntarily closed on Wednesday to address this issue and do a thorough deep cleaning of the restaurant.
We are pleased to inform you that following a thorough inspection, the health department cleared our restaurant to reopen this morning at 11am.
We assure you that your health and safety remain our top priority, and we look forward to welcoming you back to enjoy our delicious meals in a safe environment.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support during the past 44 years of business.

this will all be forgotten news by this time next week.

what needs to be done now is that the unelected goofball superintendents of the PRVWSD get some thing done about those canada geese speeding salmonella and e-coli bacteria all over the place.

in mississippi there is always another toilet to be flushed.

I had heard something on the news about an employee who had been let go. I do hope the restaurant recovers. I believe it will.

They claim they got cucked by a broken pipe?

Anonymous said...

An employee got fired for striking a female manager. When he was fired he stated that he would get even on social media.

Anonymous said...

And we thought Jackson water was bad! At least we don't have broken water lines spewing out rats and cooking grease!

Anonymous said...

I am not going back. I do not see them recovering from this.

Anonymous said...

Rats are rats no matter how you spin it

Anonymous said...

That's not a big crowd for a Friday night.
Hope the cock of the walk recovers.

WTF does a disgruntled employee have to do with rodents and roaches in the kitchen?! Maybe he was trying to get even, but they sure as hell didn’t deny it being their kitchen in the video. So the former employee planted the pests there and then filmed it?

Rep from Rankin said...

I don’t like cooked goose per se, but I do like to put them on the gas grill.

@9:54 PM - It wasn't their kitchen in the videos. There are 1,000s of videos out there to choose from and then repost on social media and lie about the context.

Anybody got a copycat recipe of their fish batter?

Canada geese are protected by federal law so if you want them removed, you'll have to take that up with Congress.

Rats Don't Taste Good I've Heard said...

Uhhhh....this statement by COTW is too little, too late. They should have addressed the rats and roaches wayyyyyy beofre they were shut down for it!

Not believing a word of this statement and NEVER going back.

BTW, clean the tables!!! They are always STICKY & NASTY!

All the restaurants are slow right now due to Summer vacations.

"They claim they got cucked by a broken pipe?"

Yeah - all those dead rats were hiding in the busted pipe and spilled out when that nasty employee busted a hole in the pipe.

Sounds believable, right?

Attn. 6:05 A.M. Yes they are protected, however in numerous areas they can be hunted during the announced hunting season.

That place has noticeably gone downhill since 3-4 years ago, the service, food and environment are just not what they used to be. There is a definite "don't GAF" attitude among the staff.
There are too many other dining options for a family to go and walk across slick greasy floors and sit at dirty tables and get slow service and hear a bunch of hooping and hollering throughout the meal.

Hot grease generally kills most animal borne bacteria.

@ 11:22 - It's a mortal Southern sin to 'batter' catfish.

Now...we've heard about the former employee, but what about the health department citing them for rats. Is that fake, just false or accurate?

Regarding 'lake superintendents', thank God and Greyhound Sigman has retired and will sit back and draw a nice PERS pension. Now if the state would just disband that agency led by unelected people and do something positive with it to benefit the Metro.

Sigman, who headed up that agency, was allowed to run 'wilder' than a one-legged chicken with my grandma chasing it with a cleaver...and he did it for decades with more damned nut-hatched ideas than was imaginable.

The Health Dept, doesn't issue grades based on social media posts.

Anonymous said...

633, true-that. But they also don't give a clearance and approval to operate based on social media posts, be they calumninated or not.

Cock of the Walk and Mary Mahoney's are two off my list.

Don't sound fishy to me said...

I had a Saturday lunch at the cock of the walk up 49 North in Pocahontas with a group a few weeks ago. The restaurant was clean, the staff was friendly and prompt and the fish, slaw fries pickled onions and turnip greens were all delicious. So enjoy the drive through Madison County and have a nice dinner.

Probably out-of-towners with a few eternal optimists thrown in.

I truly miss the 1970's "Cindy's Fish House" over in the backwater of Rankin County.

I'm sure some Ole Timers remember Cindy's as well.

Several years ago, my husband and I took our boys and several Friends to COTW for dinner. A waiter knew a couple of the kids with us and they were all laughing. Come to find out, the waiter brought a white styrofoam cup with a dead mouse in it, to out table. That did it for us! Repulsive.

A grade of 'C' is a grade of 'C'. And a 'C' is failing. How do you blame that on a disgruntled employee?

If the State Health Department failed the restaurant one day, how the hell do they allow them to open back up the next day?

Sounds like maybe the Health Department responded to a bogus video. If so, heads should roll. This is the same agency that fined a business one million dollars for what was called 'improperly testing medical Cannabis'.

The last time we ate there, maybe 6 months ago, we left without eating 5% of our food. The place was terribly dirty. The floor was slick with grease and the food was BAD. This used to be our favorite fish place. Sad to see what it became.

Anonymous said...

10:20 I loved Cindy's! It was still open in the early 90s at least. Sad to see it go.

We used to love COTW as well, but our past few visits did not live up to their previous quality of food or service.

And 12:13, it sounds like there is blame to go around. I haven't trusted the health department since covid. Going by your username, I assume you feel the same.

Bring Back The Restaurant Patrol. All of them need inspected weekly.

Anonymous said...

This is the same Health Agency that allows food-trucks to run up and down our roads and if you get food poisoning, nobody has a clue where the source was or where that truck is now.

Anonymous said...

5 days before this story broke our family went to eat there. At 6pm we had to wait 20 minutes for a table, we saw 2 servers while we were there, it took over 40 minutes to bring out 4 orders of fish & we were the only patrons drinking out of Styrofoam cups.

No we're not going to go back for a while.

to 6:05,yes,,canada geese protected by federal law but you dont have to go to the congress when you got a problem with them.

you go the the u s fish and wildlife service and apply for a crop depredation and / or nuisance extermination permit.

every catfish farm in mississippi has one. it allows catfish farmers to kill hundreds of migratory birds , like canada geese, herons, comerants , kingfishers pelicans , gulls and any other bird that stars raiding catfish crops,

There was a time when this place was packed on a Friday night, and you had to wait in a long line to be seated. I will only go to the one in Pocahontas now. The food is great, and their menu is not so limited.

Anonymous said...

The place in Pocahontas serves only hot beer. That's no problem if you're Baptist or German, but anyway.........

Anonymous said...

Good riddance. It’s never been the same after Slick Jackson sold it. Muddy and greasy

Oh my word, Cindy's! That place rocked. Our family ate there often. It was always fantastic. Waitresses rocked. Thanks for bringing it up. Great memories.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
