A downtown building burned last night. Thankfully the fire did not spread to neighboring buildings such as the Faulkner but it appears the building suffered a total loss. Pictures of the fire and aftermath are posted below. Great job by the Jackson firefighters. They performed a herculean task in preventing the fire's spread.

Sign of the times
The insurance papers got to rubbing against the mortgage papers
No mention by Jackson's cub reporters if there was sufficient water pressure.
Rooftop wedding venue looking over an adjacent lower rooftop is a recipe for a disaster.
Abandoned office space
Someone was in there and needed heat
Used to be….years ago….Louis Watson’s office I think
Was the building abandoned?
Spenglers Corner. National Register of Historic places. Only building left standing after the scalawag Sherman burnt Jackson.
Old Super D Pharmacy?
Faulkner building next door had a wedding reception at the time of the fire. They had to evacuate. Faulkner experienced heavy water damage from the fire hose.
520 E Capitol St. Sign on the front of the building says Eaves Law Firm.
12:19 I like what you did there. I may have to borrow that line.
Shame, there’s some pretty old buildings along that row. Jackson can’t catch a break.
Any fires downtown get blamed on the vagrant that set the fire at Jackson Ice not long after the fire in the building next to Jackson Ice.
If I'm not mistaken that's a pre Civil War building- one of the remaining few left in Jackson.
Only the building on the corner survived the Sherman+Grant chimneyville burnings. This one originally housed the USPO and was built in 1882.
Correction to 257's post.
The Jackson City Hall was not burned either. It was left by Sherman also. It housed a hospital as well as a Masonic Lodge and Odd Fellows lodge.
I think that is the old Draughn's Business School building.
4:54 - The proper term is antebellum.
Wow! We really can't have nice things in Jackson!
Is the mayor concerned about what shape he's leaving Jackson in?
That was an excellent job by the JFD to confine that fire to that one building.
The fire itself may have been contained to just that one building but water and smoke severely damaged other adjacent structures. For example, a record store a few doors down was ruined almost completely. The owner had only just recently relocated his business from Midtown to there. I was told there had in fact been damage to the Faulkner also. I hope the cause of the fire is revealed when it is determined.
2:57 - Scalawag is the term for Southerners who collaborated with the occupying Yankees. Sherman was just a yankee piece of trash who made war on civilians.

An historic building and Jackson Firefighters responded quickly the fire from spreading. The cause of the fire is unknown.
Your comments are those of an unpleasant, gossipmonger who spreads their personal misery and feelings of inadequacy.
If you wonder why you are not trusted or well liked, this is your hint.
The Faulkner seemed to be one of the few money-generating event locations left in Jackson, so I hope they bounce back.
Antebellum public buildings downtown include City Hall, the Governor's Mansion, the Old Capitol and the Galloway Methodist Church early childhood development center which, before the war, was the First Baptist Church it was a hospital during the war.
Maybe this will solve the Faulkner's lack of parking issue.
"(Spenglers Corner. National Register of Historic places.) Only building left standing after the scalawag Sherman burnt Jackson."
That is false.
Sherman = a blue bellied devil
My god the comments act like there's never been a damn fire before.
Props to JFD. Great work!
The building was renovated in the late 1970’s. It has been used as office space by law firms and CPA firms since that time.
This Building was owned and part of the John Arthur Eaves Law Firm

Haha.. Who says they're not trusted... or well liked? Haha...
Not one state fire marshal seen in that area. Cant keep a soul to work for that place. Thought the state took over jackson?? What a joke.
