More murder, more murder, more murder. The killing fields of Jackson show no signs of fading away as the bold new city recorded four more homicides last night. WLBT reported:
Three people were found dead around 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
Jackson Police Department Spokesperson Sam Brown says officers responded to a shooting in the 800 block of Britton Street.
According to Brown, once officers arrived, they discovered 43-year-old Jessie Bullock, 56-year-old James Bullock, and 60-year-old Colleen Bullock dead from gunshot wounds.
There is no suspect at this time. If you have any information, contact JPD at 601-355-8477.
Yet another woman was murdered as well. WJTV reported:
Jackson Police are investigating a Saturday night shooting on Dalton Street near Winter Street.
Antoinette Robinson was shot multiple times while sitting inside of her car, according to police.
There is no information about a suspect or motive at this time. This is a developing story.
Unfortunately the violence was not limited to the city as Bolton suffered a shoot out as well. Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones issued the following statement:
HCSO Deputies are investigating a shooting at Top Flight Night Club in Bolton that occurred at 1am this morning. Six victims (4 males/2 females) were wounded while in a vehicle at this location following an altercation w/ unknown suspect(s). At least one victims is critical. There is currently no suspect information at this time. Anyone with information regarding this investigation is urged to call HCSO at 601-352-1521 or Crimestoppers at 601-355-TIPS (8477).

chicago has had 759 murders so far according to the suntimes. baltimore has had about 323 murders so far. jackson has had about 144 murders so far.
chicago's murder rate is 1 murder for every 3557 residents. baltimore's murder rate is 1 murder rate for every 1813 residents. jackson's murder rate is 1 murder for every 1069 residents.

At a time, this would shock people in our area, compelling action.
The fact that it doesnt, compared to say the extremely vocal movement last summer, should tell you everything.
The only way to stop the horrible crime in Jackson is police by profiling. Turn the police loose with certain descriptive profiles and stop and search all that apply. Fight fire with fire. The thugs certainly commit crimes by profiling. Mayor Giuliani did this in NY and it worked beautifully. that is until it became under democratic rule again.
Many of us who left Jackson saw this day coming 25 - 30 years ago, as evidenced by the rising crime and blight in our once safe neighborhoods. I'm only surprised it took this long.
Just read the comments on crime stories on local media Facebook pages and you will see part of the problem. A certain group of people don't want to hold leaders responsible and have an excuse for everything. The bridge on police chief dared, dared mind you, to say parents should do a better job of keeping up with their kids because he was tired of arresting teenagers for carjackings, shootings, and murder and oh my gosh, you would've thought he was Bull Connor after reading the comments.
They will get out there and whine, moan, and bitch, have their little vigils, and their prayer rallies and yet not do the things need to be done to straighten out the crime problem. They elect the same people office and then wonder why they get the same result. They can't handle looking in the mirrors they blame everyone else.
@9:42, I think your math is wrong. If the population is 154,000 as @10:29 states, then here's my math on homicides per 100,000 residents:
154,000/100,000 = 1.54 (variance from 100,000)
144 homicides/1.54 variance = 93.51 homicides per 100,000
That would make Jackson the runaway leader on that list.
But all kidding aside, nobody should be taken seriously as a candidate for Governor/Lt. Gov. without a plan for dealing with the cancer in the middle of our state.
Other states have cities that are engines for growth. We have a collapsing pit that actively destroys economic development anywhere in its region.
A state takeover is long overdue. So is aggressively demolishing blight and starting over. So is partitioning Jackson into multiple municipalities to try to cabin some of the damage.
Running for office without a plan for Jackson is like running for Fire Marshal of a town that's literally on fire with no plan to put it out.

The fact that Lumumba II stop reporting crime statistics on the front end tells me that he knew this was coming, as the predictable result of the policies he put in place.
I presaged 150 murdered per 150,000 population (1 per 1,000) two months ago, along with SAF (stop and frisk) as a necessary partial preventive tool/solution. Jackson now kills approx as often per capita as Tijuana, which has notorious Cartel killers.
SAF worked for Giuliani in NY, it can work in West Jackson.
If the city murder rate is calculated for West Jackson only, which sponsors 95% of killings, it would be North of 2 per thousand, putting it into most murderous population on earth.
Tyree Jones, Stop and Frisk, all over West Jackson, do it now. Let cops make a bonus for capture of illegal guns, build your reputation on it. It will cause savages to carry less often.

Your math is good, but you're assuming the population is still 153,000. The 2020 census was taken more than a year ago so the population of Jackson is probably more like 151,000 or even 150,000, if it kept losing 2,000 people per year like it has for the last decade.
Remember several years ago (12-15) when that sheriff spent every waking hour doing prostitution stings ? Yeah, these killer kids were being born about that time.

I lived in Jackson for 26 years and moved to Central TX just over a year ago, best decision ever.
