3 Murdered in Fire

The Jackson Fire Department issued the following statement.

On December 8, 2021, at approximately 2138 hours, firefighters of the Jackson Fire Department were dispatched to 4837 North State Street for a reported house fire. Upon arrival on scene, firefighters confirmed a working fire inside of the home. Firefighters entered the home with a hose line and conducted a primary search that unfortunately was not all clear. Firefighters reported finding 3 deceased male individuals inside of the home. Firefighters preserved the bodies, and requested the following to the scene; fire investigators of the Jackson Fire Department, detectives of the Jackson Police Department, and the coroner.

During the investigation, a suspect was identified for intentionally setting the fire. The suspect was identified as Charles Robinson III. Mr. Robinson was not on scene, but was arrested by JPD at another location. Mr. Robinson is being charged with 3 counts of Capital Murder and Arson. The names of the deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin. More details concerning the arrest of Mr. Robinson should be directed to the Major Investigations Division of JPD. The investigation is ongoing.

I wonder if this related to the fire the other night on Lorraine, where they found a deceased female inside.

Did Jackson just pass St. Louis as the place with the highest per capita murders in the country? Getting real close to 1 out of every 1000 people in town getting murdered this year.

Three residents of a group home for patients with schizophrenia reportedly died in a fire last night. Is this the same group?

from Nextdoor:

"What a horrific morning. This will be on the news soon. I work at a mental health center and our clients are mainly diagnosed with Schizophrenia and live in group homes. One of these homes on State Street burned last night and three of our clients died. This was a home for men and there is one for women which is by it. Our women from there are home resting as they witnessed the destruction. I had to break the news to their classmates and friends who came to the center today and had not heard yet. I write this for help. The surviving men lost their belongings and could use clothing and personal items. It would be great if any grocery stores or restaurants in the area of State and Northside could donate meals for this evening and next couple of days. We are covering lunch and will go by at noon to provide some grief counseling. If you would like to help please DM me."

KF, what is the official succumbing count now?

Don Drane said...

This is horrible. Enough with the 'what's the count by now' posts. This was not just another 'Jackson killing'. Somebody had a sinister, personal motive here and it will be interesting among the mental health community (as well as others) to learn of the motive.

I'm as much in tune with (and outspoken about) the ever-escalating crime and danger that exists in our capital city as anyone, but this fits into its own category. God's speed with the investigation.

Jackson has a leadership crisis and our titular leader's only approach to crisis leadership is to endlessly self-promote himself using mindless rhetoric and empty ideological garbage.

Mayor Lumumba, it is about basic competency and integrity. There can be none of your oft-hallowed equity while you sit on your ass, killing after killing, and do NOTHING while the least amongst us in our badly wounded city are being murdered at a recording breaking pace.

Resign Mayor Lumumba. Do the right thing for one damn time in your life. RESIGN.

I’ve lived here since 1980s.

The 1995 number of high 90s was soon abated the next year not by less murders but by a change in how murders were counted.

The actual numbers have been suppressed for decades now due to change in definitions.

Watch next years number….it will be half.

So frustrating when government officials use their power to manipulate stats.

Washington Post | July 14, 2021 | Leadership During Crisis with Jackson Mayor Chokwe Lumumba

Washington Post:
And in our last couple of minutes, I want to ask you about some other issues that Jackson is facing along with much of the country. One of those is the rise in violent crime, which has been happening all over America, and unfortunately Jackson was not an exception. You saw the highest rate of crime in the city’s history. So, what are you doing as mayor to address that and to help alleviate that burden?

[Emperor] MAYOR LUMUMBA:
Yeah. Well, I think that, you know, what it’s demonstrated--you know, and if I can give an example, you know, as a--as a young man, if I showed up in my household after failing a test and I told my parents that everyone else failed the test, it certainly didn’t, you know, garner any sympathy on their behalf. And so, when we say that there’s a rise nationwide, you know, often people just want to know what the solution is where they live and how we meet this challenge. And while that doesn’t alleviate the concern, there are some least-common denominators that we should be able to extract from these circumstances, understanding that the combined factors of the social determinants that lead to crime have been elevated and increased in the midst of the pandemic. You have people suffering from economic turmoil. You have people suffering from social and emotional trauma and stress.

And so, what we have to focus on is not only, you know, how we look at the proper balance of how we are--how we are addressing public safety in terms of our policing mechanisms, but how we are addressing not only the what but the why, how are we addressing the need for engagement within our communities amongst our young people. What we have seen in the midst of the pandemic that has led to this violence is that young people have been alienated from the institutions in which they thrive, no longer being within school systems, no longer being a part of many of the extracurricular activities and community centers that they normally are engaged in. And so, it’s a lot easier telling a younger person what to do than simply telling them what not to do.

And so, as we have not only been having a conversation about the effects of a pandemic and also, you know, arising out of the murder or the assassination of George Floyd, we’re having conversations on social justice, we have to understand that they are two sides of the same coin. And they are interconnected, and so the more that we focus on building an economy based on sustainable development goals, build a dignity economy, one which reflects the inherent dignity of every person, the better equipped we are to address all of the things that harm us, whether that is violence, whether that is disparate health effects. And so that’s what we are looking at.

As we are going into our budget, not only did we make a strategic and progressive decisions to make certain that we covered 100 percent of the health insurance premiums for all of our city employees in the midst of a pandemic. We’re also having conversations about how we elevate and extend the services of youth programming. We’re talking about how we bolster the other areas of traditional public safety that we have taken advantage of, but we have to see this in a comprehensive and a smart--we have to not only be tough on crime but smart as it pertains to crime.

Talk, talk, talk, talk, denominators, RIGHT?, Talk, talk, talk, talk, social determinants, Talk, talk, talk, talk, having a conversation, Talk, talk, talk, talk, dignity economy, RIGHT? Talk, talk, talk, talk, Talk, talk, talk, talk, progressive, Talk, talk, talk, talk, but smart, Talk, talk, talk, talk. RIGHT?

2:22, you wrote, "Jackson has a leadership crisis and our titular leader's only approach to crisis leadership is to endlessly self-promote himself using mindless rhetoric and empty ideological garbage.".....and you're exactly right, because that's all the mayor's constituents require. All they require is a promise, but no action. As long as he continues to talk like he does, he can remain in that office for as long as he likes.

In fact, the mayor's constituents have been purposely kept SO ignorant, that they could read the words he said in 3:30's WaPo reproduction and actually believe he said something meaningful!

At the end of the day, a tiger can't change his stripes. He was brought up in a "burn it all down" household, and it's clear that's what he still believes. The thing that puzzles me is, after he runs all of the taxpaying citizens out of Jackson, with what will he be left? Does he think he's capable of maintaining or rebuilding what's left? Does he think that's the path to Jackson's growth? Not on your life. In future years, without federal government handouts, he's going to have to bulldoze this city.

Change my mind.

Hey 3:30 PM, thanks for the link. I feel bad about the men that died in this fire, but mostly I feel bad for the citizens of Jackson. Everybody needs to read the entire interview. It goes on forever and he says absolutely NOTHING. A good summation of this mayor, he is absolutely nothing.

Jackistan is over 140, the 4 killed by hit and runs in a 24 hour period were not added to the wlbt numbers nor were a couple of others, they got a little behind since it’s hard to keep up with all the killing over there.

Putting it in perspective said...

Los Angeles County CA so far this year 236 homicides. Last year 161 homicides. A population of 10.04 MILLION people. Nearing 140 homicides this year in Jackson MS, a city with a population of 160,000. That's freaking nuts.

WLBT stated there were 138 murders for the year on the 10pm news on Thursday night.

But is a titular reference contributory to a prophylactic argument.

It's only the perception of 138 murders, right?

Let that sink in. Where does one, you know, even learn the art, you know, of that sort of sentence construction? I think it's a fact that when you speak, you are enunciating, you know, what has mili-seconds ago run through your brain. It's part of the process.

At least Biden has a medical excuse for the disconnect between brain and speech.

I would’ve never imagined the day where Jackson, MS would have 138 homicides.

KP, please post this time.

Mr. Lumumba suffers from the the Dunning-Kruger Effect. The symptoms are on full, unvarnished, display in the interview published by the Washington Post, 14/JULY/2021.

Given the level of personality wanting to be elevated to elective office, US House in this case, I guess suffering from this Effect is not a disqualification. I am no genius, not by a long shot, but at least I do not suffer from Dunning-Kruger.

Counting bodies found just on the other side of the line it's closer to 149. Annexed areas folks. Annexed areas I do not think are being counted.

Anonymous said...

Which 'annexed areas'?

Anonymous said...

WLBT data is the best count we have and can you really trust anything coming out of Lumumba's JPD for honesty and accuracy? If as of this moment Jackson is at 138 then the projection @ rate is 146.42 YE murders.

Anonymous said...

Where was the house manager? Do they live in a house with no supervision? If the answer is no why are they there? Too many people in a house with no 24 hour supervision!!!

Good point, 4:40. The culpability is going to be widespread on this one.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
