NCAA Unfair, Surprise.

Whoever wins today got screwed by the NCAA.  Vandy gets to play the finals with both pitchers rested while both Texas and Mississippi State will be forced to use up their staffs today.   Vandy gets a huge unfair advantage.  If the NCAA had any sense of justice, it would push back the finals a day or two but then again, this is the NCAA.

NC State players showed lots of class yesterday in their loss!!! NCAA sucks!! They screwed these kids!!

Let's suppose NC State won last night. That would have eliminated Vandy. In that case would the winner of tonight's MSU vs Texas game be declared CWS Champ? The NCAA has outlived its usefulness and needs to go away.

Anonymous said...

Boy oh boy this sucks. Vandy should refuse. Push this thing back. The whole series is screwed. The game last night would not have been pushed into the rain had it not been for the NcS nonsense. Texas got extra rest. Then state had to pitch in a downpour. The whole thing is a travesty for kids at statistically zero risk of even symptoms.

ncaa has it for vandy...

superregional vs east carolina. pretty clear that there were two sets of strike zone standards...forced ecu batters to chase everything, and made ecu pitchers throw to a tight window...

There is a glaring irony of Vandy’s ties to Fauci and the role COVID has played to their advantage... no matter which side of the aisle you choose to sit.

It is a shame the NCAA won’t do right by these teams. I mean, what would they do if weather was inclement? Why cannot that same level of consideration and rescheduling be applied to this situation?

MSU and Texas should walk away today. Deprive the NCAA of valuable screen time.

Wont watch any more of this CWS. It’s a fraud and no true champion can be crowned. Even if Miss Stake wins out, the “National Championship” will be tarnished and nobody will take it seriously.

" MSU and Texas should walk away today. Deprive the NCAA of valuable screen time."

I agree 100%.
But it will not happen.

I'm an Ole Miss Alum that ... ( God forbid) ... has been pulling for Mississippi State.
I would support LSU, Bama, or any SEC team that made in into the CWS.

And the NCAA, NFL, MLB and others wonder why they are losing millions each year.

Look, you buncha junior, wad-shot lettuce-heads...that's the way it works when you wind up in a losers bracket. The whole idea is to make it extra tough on the ones who lose a game to come back. Always been this way. You trolls are from the 'everybody deserves a trophy' school of nonsense. When you lose a game, you're no longer 'equal'...so quit with the nonsense of 'put us all back equal' and let us try again.

Bullshit. If NC State won last night, it would have an advantage it earned. Vandy gets a huge advantage given to it by the NCAA instead of earning it on the field of play.

ESPN rules the ncaa and thus the reason why the games are going as scheduled. They gotta keep the advertisers happy and the schedule intact. The only kink in their plan is when the weather doesn’t cooperate.

“Show me the money” is all that matters to both monopolies. They could care less about being fair to the student athletes and fans.

Anonymous said...

Vandy gets Leiter on 6 days rest and Rocker on 4 presuming a game three is necessary. Definite advantage.

None of you clowns probably spent anything to buy tickets and attend in person. NC State screwed itself by not getting vaccinations, so they are suffering the consequences. Why penalize everyone else, including the 10,000 plus MS State fans that have been and are still there?

Anonymous said...

@8:01p- You do realize the vaccine does NOT prevent you from getting COVID, right?

Science itself says the vaccine only potentially lessens the severity of symptoms.

Anonymous said...

Dumbasses everywhere need to get vaccinated

I would root for The Taliban if they were playing MSU.

Hmmm, 25,000 old fat boys sitting shoulder to shoulder in the stands. NCAA says, "Sounds great!"

Nine superbly conditioned young men standing 75 - 100 feet apart in the field. NCAA says, "we must stand for safety and welfare of the players."

Dr. Feel Good said...

@8:16 - You are another fool spouting idiocy. I guess you also believe the world is flat and the moon landing was staged in Hollywood.
While some people have vaccine failures and get a mild case of Covid, the vaccine DOES prevent Covid in 90% of people who are smart enough to get vaccinated. No vaccine is 100% effective, but anything over 75% is an effective vaccine,

Note 4 vaccinated players tested positive. Stop testing a symptomatic people. These kids are statistically safer without the genetic modification therapies.

@8:49, rooting for a losing team seems to be a thing with y’all. I’m an MSU fan and what happened to NC State is borderline criminal. What happened to my body my choose. But hey, they stands are packed. Glad they are worried about Covid all the way around. Clarion Ledger headline tomorrow, “Vanderbilt signs 5 star pitcher from Wuhan Institute of Technology”. Everyone should be pulling for “Unlimited sScholarships University”

I distinctly remember Charles Barkley guaranteeing LeBron James would not be suspended by the NBA after attending a promotional event and violating the league’s health and safety protocols. Charles Barkley was correct. It all depends on who you are when NCAA wants to apply safety protocols on a team. NCAA wants Vandy to win the CWS so bad they’ll do anything to give them an advantage.

Anonymous said...

Vandy grad and baseball fan here. Yes, this sucks (spell in one way: N-C-A-A). But it’s NOT Vandy’s fault! No Vandy fan wants it this way, I assure you. But, the Commodores were’t eliminated; they have as much right to play as N.C. State does. The Wolfpack got screwed, no doubt, but it wasn’t the ‘Dores who did the screwing.

By the way, did I mention that Tim Corbin is the best baseball coach in America? Anchor Down!

Anonymous said...

The Coaches well knew the rules long before they showed up including that there would be Covid testing all season and for the CWS.

How stupid does a coach have to be to not know a positive test could screw his whole season and ruin it for the team?

Baseball is a TEAM sport. You play as a TEAM not as a prima donna unwilling to sacrifice your "druthers".

Number 1 ranked teams get an advantage in other sports as well. It's earned during the season.

The notion of "resting arms" didn't always exist when pitchers pitched back to back games and even two in the same day ( it was called a double header). LOOK IT UP!

Y'all miss hearing coaches complain that cancelled games hurt their teams this year and took away their "edge" during Covid?

I hope MSU's pitchers don't believe this crap or the likely myth that somehow they are better than pitchers of the past because their pitches can be clocked. Or that they can't do what other pitchers have done in baseball history...win without "resting" their arms.

The NC State coach should never coach again. He doesn't understand his job is also making sure the rules are followed and the team understands they can lose the season for violating the rules...not just teaching them to play baseball as he claimed.

Here's a concept: The time to bitch about a written rule is before it's enforced.

7:19- I believe any coach could do as good a job as Tim Corbin if they had unlimited scholarships like Vandy. I vital item you failed to mention.

There are a lot of uninformed comments in this blog.

All the teams (including NC State) knew the rules well in advance of the tournament: Vaccinate or be tested. It is not a stupid policy. Vaccination works.

NC State took a risk. Taking a risk has consequences. The NC State head coach (university and athletic department) assumed the risk. No vax means you will be tested. They rolled the dice and they lost.

The losers are NC State's fine team and the university. The secondary loser will be MSU.

8:01 is clearly uneducated on this.

First, if this was an issue, Vanderbilt should have taken quarantine steps, along time the umpires. In addition, everyone in that stadium should have been tested.

If I were NCST, I’d buy tickets to the remaining games and sit in the stands.

This entire situation was handled poorly.

This tournament is now a sham and not true winner can be crowned, regardless of who “wins”

As someone said, these players were in more risk TRAVELING to Omaha rather than getting th3 Wuhan Virus.

What a goddamn joke.

Hope Texas wins.

Anonymous said...

NC State players decided not to get vaccinated. They got COVID as a result. The result of that was having to forfeit. People on here howl about snowflakes and yet are acting like snowflakes.

Anonymous said...

Since NC State was eliminated based on 4 vaccinated players testing positive, ALL the players from ALL teams should've been tested. Based on what was done to NC State, if any player tested positive, then that team should be out, too. If every team had a positive player, then shut it down and go home.

Kingfish said...

I didn't say a word about the covid crap and NC State. They chose not to get vaccinated and that was the risk. However, several players were forced to sit out the Friday game and tested negative after the game.

The beef is with the NCAA for giving Vandy an unfair and unearned advantage.

The notion of "resting arms" didn't always exist when pitchers pitched back to back games and even two in the same day ( it was called a double header). LOOK IT UP!

They didn't have radar guns and videotapes back then either. Now we can see how a pitcher's velocity declines as the pitch count mounts and we can study how he loses control over his pitches as well.

As for your back in the day crap, how many pitchers' arms were ruined?

I am 7:19 (Vandy grad).

No denying this is a huge advantage for VU. No denying NCSU got screwed. I’m not going to point my fingers at the Wolfpack and blame them for what happened to them. I wish the game could have been put off to when they could play, but as we all suspect, TV probably effectively made that call

My point was, and is, that this is not Vandy’s fault or problem. Those kids have earned their right to play, just like NC State earned their right.
It’s a damn shame NC State has been robbed of their earnings, but, again, that takes nothing away from Vandy. They split two games; one 1-0 and the other 3-1. They are both fine, well-deserving baseball teams.

Heck, I’m a proud Commodore, but we won’t beat State anyway unless our bats somehow come alive.

Anchor Down!

7:19 (Vandy grad) here again:

No expert here, but the NCAA should allow for more full scholarships; period. But, the smaller, poorer schools (La. Tech? USM?) then would be at a disadvantage. Vandy has the largest endowment of any SEC school except maybe A&M. By far, actually. Basically, if you are a regular student and you want to attend VU, you can, if you qualify, of course (more rigorous than any SEC school). The NCAA allows aid to be “stacked” which means the competitive private schools, Vandy, Miami, Stanford, etc., do have a definite advantage with baseball players. Again, the NCAA should allow every school to award more full baseball scholarships, in my opinion.

But, look. If you have an elite baseball program like Vandy does, recruiting is much easier. It is always going to be a tough competitor in the SEC (alas, not football, though). Nashville is a thriving and exciting place, which easily outstrips any other SEC community. Vandy’s academic reputation is world-class. If you get a scholarship, why wouldn’t you want to go there? Especially with all the players they have in the big leagues?

Anyway, good luck to State, and Go ‘Dores!

Question... what is the most goofy collegiate fan phrases of the following three teams ?

Vandy: "Anchor Down!"

Mississippi State: "Hail State"

Southern Mississippi: "To the Top"

Anonymous said...

Per SaturdayDownSouth.com:

D1Baseball’s Aaron Fitt reported that

“two unvaccinated NC State players tested positive for COVID-19”

this week in Omaha. Per the guidelines, that prompted the NCAA to then test the entire Wolfpack roster, including the vaccinated players.

“Four NC State players then tested positive,”

and the NCAA made the no-contest ruling for Saturday’s game.

Is this true?
If so, I thought getting vaccination keeps you from getting Wuhan COVID-19???

@11:43am and 2:07pm - Vaccines do not place a magical force field around your body and reject all airborne pathogens. You can be infected with ANYTHING you’re vaccinated against. The vaccine simply trains your immune system to fight it off before it makes you ill. So yes, you can test positive for a Covid infection after being fully vaccinated. Doesn’t mean you’ll get sick or spread it though. The latest studies actually prove this. NC State coach knew the rules, took a risk, and it bit him in the ass.

Learn some basic human a&p before you flap your redneck guns. Probably didn’t make it through that class in high school I’m guessing.

Anonymous said...

@11:41, yes that’s correct. Funny to see the knee jerk comments on here. All the positive tests were from vaccinated players. That’s what threw the coaches off was the “protocols” were to test only unvaccinated players until the morning before the game. For some reason, NCAA and local county health officials told NC State that their vaccinated players needed to be tested. County officials have come out and said they were only following NCAA’s lead on this. I put some weight into this info since the NC State athletic director released a letter to their boosters saying as much.

Narratives always fail...

@2:54, thank you so much for letting us all know how incredibly smart you are. Having you here teaching us all, and with such grace, really is a blessing to be cherished.

Quoting you: “you can test positive for a Covid infection after being fully vaccinated. Doesn’t mean you’ll get sick or spread it though. The latest studies actually prove this.”

2 Questions (if you will grace us with more of your incredible genius):

1. So, the vaccinated players “were not at risk” of “getting sick” or “spreading the virus” due to being around the non-vaccinated players?

2. Or, the vaccinated players “were at risk” of “getting sick” or “spreading the virus”
due to being around the non-vaccinated players?

@4:50pm - 2:54pm here to spread some more knowledge to you plebs.

1) Correct

2) No

But you fail to understand the point. It’s not about how Covid affects the players. NCAA put rules and protocols in place far in advance of the CWS to protect the public at large from the gathering of many people from across the US. The NC State coach was aware of the rules and decided the freedom to choose was more important to him and his team than possibly being booted from the CWS. It’s as simple as that. You can bitch and moan all you want about how “the wuflu only kills old fat people, this is bs!” But it doesn’t change the facts: NCAA made the rules, coach decides the rules aren’t important, and coach (and team, fans, and MSU) pays. Kinda like life. Ignore the rules for “muh freedumbs” and let me know how that works out for you. We’re a civilized society with rules for a reason. We’re not a bunch of idiot sovereign citizens, stop acting like it.

Anonymous said...

If "the vaccine works", which it seems to, then what is the risk of letting Vandy's vaccinated players play on the field with NC State's uncertain status players?
ALso, the risk of a 20 year old male athlete in prime physical condition acquiring coronavirus and becoming seriously ill is so near zero as to be considered zero.
THe risk of players being out in an open field , many yards away from each other, in summer heat , giving a respiratory virus to each other , is also near zero, asymptotically so.
Fans sitting next to each other in stands are at much higher risk of being exposed to a virus than players on a huge baseball field .
Rules seem to be very selectively and capriciously applied these days.
There's your "science".

I guarantee you if NCAA had found Vandy in violation you would have never heard a peep.

I/4:50pm asked: “1. So, the vaccinated players “were not at risk” of “getting sick” or “spreading the virus” due to being around the non-vaccinated players?”

@6:11 (4:50pm) responded: “1) Correct”

@6:11 (4:50pm), thank you so much for your candid answer that vaccinated people can be around non-vaccinated with no risk of getting sick or spreading the virus.

Based on your wisdom, vaccinated people don’t have any reason at all to worry about being around the folks choosing not to be vaccinated.

FYI, you mistook me for someone that gives a s__t about the NCAA, or it’s ruling. Rest assured you would be hard pressed to find someone that cared less.

@9:10, according to 6:11 (4:50) the vaccine works; and, the NCAA rule is stupid (and an attempt to control people) since there’s no risk of a vaccinated person/player getting sick or spreading the virus when they are exposed to non-vaccinated persons/players.

But 6:11 (4:50) contradicts her/him/itself when stating the “NCAA put rules and protocols in place far in advance of the CWS to protect the public at large from the gathering of many people from across the US.”

Since, according to the infinite wisdom of 6:11 (4:50), THERE IS NO RISK!

@6:49am - You would be right, except for the fact that anti-science “muh freedumbs” folks like yourself continue to go unvaccinated and allow the continued spread and mutation of the virus. Because of that, at some point the vaccinated will no longer have protection because the virus was allowed to spread and mutate amongst our low IQ population.

But I reckon with your logic, we should just all forgo the vaccine and “let God sort em out.” The hell with hundreds of years of scientific and technological advances. All those old, sick, feeble, people were gonna die at some point anyway. Who cares.

You're a day late and a dollar short with your fearmongering 8:56. The Delta variant of your "dooms day" virus is already here. It didn't start with any of us, as you so ignorantly put it, "muh freedom" lovers. The vaccine doesn't stop someone from getting the original "dooms day" virus, what makes your fearmongering ass think it will stop the Delta variant? You're blowing the trumpet in support of mighty medicine when they haven't found a cure for the "common cold". You're probably one of the same nut jobs that goes around calling those that question the origin of this virus "conspiracy theorist". I just reread your post, and I would like to apologize. The key to harmony is understanding, and I believe I, now, understand your fear. You said "the virus was allowed to spread and mutate amongst our low IQ population". I suppose you fall in that demographic. You poor thing, bless your heart.

@9:53, great points…but, now that leftist liberal icon John Stewart is on board with where the Wuhan virus came from, sheep like @8:56 will have to find some new opinions to repeat; in order to keep from disrespecting one of their messiahs.

Stewart, along with leftist Democrat tool Bill Maher are trying to reel in the fools that fell for the scams; before the indoctrination sets in too deep and can’t be undone.

Anonymous said...

@9:53am - Reading comprehension is key. No one said the Delta variant began here (no one knows though, it could have). And you’re right, the vaccine doesn’t prevent you from being infected by the virus. BUT IT KEEPS YOU FROM SPREADING IT AND GETTING SICK (at least at this point, if it keeps mutating in the unvaccinated, then who knows). Sorry for yelling, but there’s an important distinction between getting infected and it ending there vs getting infected, sick, and infecting others. Currently, the vaccine STOPS THE VIRUS FROM SPREADING, effectively ending the transmission chain. I don’t give a shit if it was a minor cold for you when you got it. The hundreds of people you unknowingly infected may have had different results. There’s a reason the term “public health” exists. If you could think past your own nose you might could grasp the concept. Go get vaccinated please. Your god emperor and taturd got vaccinated, isn’t that enough for you?

Anonymous said...

I am not capable of thinking past my nose. My brain is above and behind my nose, where is yours? Maybe that explains what your problem is. About that reading comprehension thing, I'm sure you wrote, and I quote, "because the virus was allowed to spread and mutate amongst our low IQ population". That is word for word what you wrote. Are you sure you're alright? Have you been abusing your medications, again? Do the orderlies know you have outside the building internet access? I know you believe the men in white coats are gods and have all the answers. You're in good company, they believe that, too. Bless your heart, we'll be praying for you.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.

Trollfest '07

Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Kamikaze will perform his new song F*** Bush, he's still a _____. Did I mention there was no referee? Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.

There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Tackleberry will be on hand for an autograph session. KIM Waaaaaade will be passing out free titles and deeds to crackhouses formerly owned by The Wood Street Players.
