Med Marijuana Hearing Today

The Senate Committee on Public Health and Welfare will hold a hearing on medical marijuana at 10:30 in room 216.  Watch it here.  JJ would love to stream it but the Senate disabled the video from being streamed on other websites.  Meanwhile, Dave is down in Florence ranting about the Queen again.  Enjoy.

Hearings are just a forum for politicos to hear themselves ramble. AKA, a very poor subsitute for action.

So what medical condition does this Dave clown have that he needs medical marijuana for?

Anonymous said...

I grew up going to school with David. His videos make me think long term pot usage does brain damage.

Anonymous said...

Hell Yea..... Love the Tunes

The path forward is to legalize recreational marijuana subject to substantial taxes and some local zoning regulations. It's not perfect but it makes sense.

Dave's video is proof enough why we don't need recreational MaryJane.

Enjoy your marijuana pills and opioid-like regulation. The backdoor will not be re-opened. Will Joel drop another $2+ million for a full monty? He ... said it was for his parents.

10:25 AM, because it was newer about MM in the first place.

Whares Deppity Pheel?!

I get a kick out of the stoners that can’t comprehend it was the courts, not Mary, that kicked the law off the books.

Dumas stoners

Buy these potheads a bus ticket out of here. These are serious times that need serious minded people more than ever. No one’s got the time or the resources to carry dead societal weight these days.

These hearings are a waste of freakin' time, either they are going to host a special session or not!?

Liver spot stained hands always love to tell you how bad marijuana is.
Go ahead and knock back another Jack and Coke, geezer
Try not to kill anyone driving to Stanley’s drunk from Rankin County to get another bottle.

Somebody said...

Where is Ron Simmons when you need him?

The doctor said...

If medical marijuana doesn't help psychological problems, it will do Dave no good.

Shazam said...

Medical MJ is not the issue here. The issue is the blatant subversion of the will of the people of Mississippi.

All these comments solidify my belief that democracy is a sick joke. People can't seem to understand that the Legislature dropped the ball continually for 20 years and then when a Citizen Initiative got called out and brought to the Supreme Court it was tossed because a relatively simple textual fix would correct the initiative process.

Anonymous said...

Just legalize it already. You got whiskey(which is worse) ......you got all sorts of legal pills killing folks everyday ! Weed grows all by itself and has since the beginning of time ! Don't let a bad decision from the 1920's over opium make you blind to what this is. It's about money and who gets the kickbacks !!!!!

Has Hob Bryan lost his mind? The people have spoken. They voted on what they wanted. The complete and unbelievable arrogance of our State legislature to disregard what the voters of this State approved ,regardless of procedural flaws, is political suicide. Mr Bryan you and your colleagues have no right to impose your will over that of the people, regardless of the issue. This, in my opinion, is political suicide. This is supposed to be a democracy..

Anonymous said...

What was the topic that the will of the people was subverted on? Medical marijuana you say? The Supreme Court of the great state of Mississippi "correctly" interpreted the "law", as it was written, and didn't write "law" from the bench. The majority of the people should have had their legislative representatives correct this "law" before it got to this point. In case you failed civics, that's the way this works.

Anonymous said...

So California is giving 100m to bail out the marijuana industry dispensary’s in their state.

Anonymous said...

Basic civics - Just take care of it next time at the polls - we shall see who survives

Anonymous said...

The will of the people was expressed with a vote on the issue of medical marijuana although deemed unconstitutional. The will of the people was expressed by what they voted on in Initiative 65. So, to completely ignore that and impose legislators own moral issues contrary to the way the voters of this State voted is subverting the voters will. Hob Bryan is now discussing issues contrary to what voters expressed they wanted. Some democracy - you know clearly what the voters want as a result of the election and the legislature largely ignores it.

More important than MM, has there been a bill passed to fix the I&R process? If not, why?

Anonymous said...

The answer to why the initiative process has not been fixed yet is simple. The Governor has not called a special session. Once there is a special session, the process will be quickly fixed by the legislature.

Anonymous said...

because the I&R fix has to be voted on by the people in a statewide election. The next one is next November. Settle down grasshopper. it will happen in the regular session of 2022. No need to hurry up and wait.

Dave is a certified dumb ass, probably the best spokesman for NOT legalizing the hippie lettuce.

Man there’s some pretty sharp comments here on the JJ. A large number of qualified political analysts. But in all honesty the problem is pretty simple. The legislature knew for twenty years the initiative process was flawed. Some even tried to fix it, six or was it seven times. But in reality they had no intention of fixing it. It was their ace in the hole against any initiative they really thought crossed the line.

Medical cannabis was the issue that crossed the line. Don’t you remember? They stuck 65A in with 65 because they thought the people of Mississippi was on their side and would never try expressing their own thoughts. I imagine many a legislator was pretty stunned when the public stuck it up their asses and broke it off. No worries though they had the ace in the hole. They let their bulldog in Madison pull the knife out of their own backs and promptly stabbed the public. And with a wink and a smile the SC judges used a technicality to break it off.

But the fights not over yet and Mississippians still have the opportunity to cut some throat with payback come the next election. You can take this to the bank this legislature will never fix the initiative process. That would make things too simple for the public to kick their asses to the curb.

Damn , never knew some many wanted to light up! What are all y’all’s ailments since this is medicine?

So much for democracy in Mississippi. MS manages to be last in everything.
Look how many other states have legalized medical and recreational MJ.
But not MS, they are determined to go against the will of the voters with a wrong supreme court decision.

Anonymous said...

Someone at 7:50
I would love to hear your legal analysis as to why our Supreme Court was wrong. Go ahead, give us the specifics and not just a general statement. You can do it!

Anonymous said...

It appears based on this dude's videos that we dont actually need a maryjane initiative as there apparently isnt an issue acquiring.

Anonymous said...

The SC made the right call legally.....it's the Legislature that is incompetent and corrupt. Throw them all out next election. Remove them from "power".

Anonymous said...

Not one legislator will lose their re-election because they didn't fix the initiative process. The 'throw them out' clowns who post that comment here put their full ignorance on display every time they do so.

Anonymous said...

Based on a lot of these comments, it’s obvious alcoholism is a real issue around here. Let’s bring back prohibition. Stop commenting while drunk you morons.

Anonymous said...

@8:22 - you might be surprised how many people think democracy is something worth fighting for. When the state government actively works to overturn the will of the people, you better believe there are going to be some changes.

Anonymous said...

When the state government actively works to overturn the will of the people ...

Tell us how state government actively worked to overturn the will of the people in this instance.

Anonymous said...

They are attempting to overturn the will of the people when creating legislation that is not what the people voted for in Initiative 65. Anything other than what was approved overwhelmingly by the voters goes against what the voters voted for.

Anonymous said...

The State legislature is actively working ,as we speak, to approve legislation that is not what the voters voted for in Initiative 65. How is that for “overturning the will of the people”?

Anonymous said...

Assuming that voters understood and fully supported every single permutation of the language inside of 65, and therefore that 'will' is unassailable, is laughable but expected considering how far you bogus medical dopers are detached from reality.

Anonymous said...

91.7% of all Mississippians voted for medical marijuana. So there.

Anonymous said...

@3:45 & @3:51

Legislature is going to pass something different because they don't fear you.

Nor should they.

Take away Bomgaars' money and you don't even qualify for the ballot.

They are politically smarter than you are.

Anonymous said...

5:13 you can’t assume anything the initiative said what it said no if’s ands or buts about it. The people voted on the initiative placed on the ballot. Period end of discussion.

Anonymous said...

5:13 the vote count is reality

Anonymous said...

I can’t think of any better way to determine what the voters of this State want in regard to the laws of this State or what the true pulse of the public is than the way it was done through this failed Initiative 65 vote. The scary thing about it is that the legislature is not doing what the voters want or it appears that way by watching the Senate Public Health Committee meetings. I don’t care what the issue is, if those in power do whatever they want to do even if it opposes the will of the voters, they need to be voted out. Period.

Anonymous said...

I think some might be surprised in regard to what the voters of this state can do with a grass roots campaign and little $ to vote these politicians out of office over the medical marijuana situation. The people will remember this.

Anonymous said...

I thought the grass roots campaign with the sample ballot for Initiative 65 that instructed people the correct way to vote if you were in favor of Initiative 65 worked wonderfully don’t you 5:26? Much needed with all the confusion created by 65A.

Anonymous said...

NOTHING grass roots about the 65 campaign. NOTHING.

Anonymous said...

There's one really active pothead posting on here that must have used all of his stash.

Sooner, or later - Mississippi will in fact change, and step in to the present. The flag change is one small piece of evidence. When the national powers start to hone in on how Mississippi just wants to be the same ole' Mississippi, the reckoning will commence. It may take a while, but it will happen. The old guard is dying out fast, and new blood doesn't give a shit who the redneck connected think they are. It's only a matter of time.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
