Mayor Keeps Mask Mandate in Place

The mask mandate will remain in place in Jackson for now.  Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba announced he was keeping the order in place at his weekly press conference today.  The Mayor said:

What we believe is that the city of Jackson having only a vaccination rate of maybe 36% , sorry, Hinds County having a vaccination rate of 36%, that is too low of a percentage to lift our mask mandate at this time. I do want to indicate that while that number is low, it represents one of the higher vaccination rates in the general area. We all have to improve our job of getting vaccinated. ...

We are tossing around some internal numbers in terms of what we want to see. We will not share that at this time before you ask because we want to make sure we are doing so in the most effective way and we don't want to throw out a number and then question why is that the number... but we do know that 36% is not it.

(In response to a media question) What I will say is that the city of Jackson's process in dealing with this has always been about science, right.  We're looking at this from a scientific standpoint, not a political standpoint. And so we follow the CDC's guidelines.  That is informative to us, right? So we want to take that information and see how that applies to a city creates the safest environment it possibly can. And so this has always been our practice, this has always been our process.  You don't need your Mayor trying to give you health advice, you don't need your Mayor trying to operate on you, You don't need your Mayor trying to be your doctor, and so who I look to are the actual doctors, people who study health sciences for the instruction they give us. I will share with you nationwide, cities are still maintaining their mask mandates even after the guidance from the CDC has been issued.

Additionally, the Federal government is still holding its mask mandate.... We can see a light at the end of the tunnel. ... We're making gains but those gains are going to be influenced by science and not politics.

Kingfish note: The Health Department's website states 37% of Hinds County residents have received at least one shot of a Covid-19 vaccine.  Only 32% have received both shots.

Potholes and Police should be his highest priorities. Jackson’s pothole team is terribly understaffed. This guy is a complete joke.

It’s ironic that science is important for unnecessary mask mandates, but not so much a priority when it comes to clean drinking water. Didn’t dude hide the science the EPA presented for over a year? He’s such a joke!! How long will this community buy his bullshit?

Anonymous said...

What good was asking people to get shots? Those who have received both shots were told by CDC they are not required to wear mask!

Anonymous said...

Even though the CDC and numerous studies have proven that masks are BS and provide no protection?

Anonymous said...

Not to worry. As Chokwe concludes, "We can see a light at the end of the tunnel".

He can’t fix potholes, libraries, water bills, water pipes, the zoo, the crime, the litter but don’t worry. He’s gonna fix covid.

Someone said "Potholes and Police should be his highest priorities."

Last night coming home on I-55 northbound about High Street exit there was an 18 wheeler in the median that had burned. A couple firetrucks were there and a wrecker had 2 lanes blocked. Not a policeman in sight. It was a free for all trying to get through.

This will allow his beloved thugs to wear masks without suspicion while doing their evil deeds.

We're #1 in unsafe drinking water.
We're #1 in venereal disease infection.
We're Top 3 in per capita in murders (but rising fast!)

Yet Baby Chok want to focus on suppressing personal freedoms. I was driving last week when I saw someone driving alone and wear a mask. I'd bet $10 she voted for Lumumba.

If one drinks City of Jackson drinking water through a face mask, reckon there is less risk of poisoning?

7:22 come July 1 those incidents will be the MHP's problem. JPD has already adjusted to the new law.

He has a fair point regarding the poor vaccination rates in our area and state. Not surprised we are last in the nation again.

This is a mayor who governs a city that is out of control. He cannot control crime, public works, schools, or anything else. This mask thing is his only opportunity to show some visible authority over the unfortunate citizens he represents. He would like to demonstrate his "authority" as long as possible. It would be a good joke if it weren't so sad.

Number of people who respect this mayor and pay any attention to what he says?

ZERO-0

Jackson had a chance years ago to elect a mayor with real business experience and documented success. A person who could legitimately connect with a large portion of the Jackson residents-black and white. But, he didn't "shuck 'n jive" hard enough...so the people elected The Mumbler, Pt. 1. Thanks to JFP (https://www.jacksonfreepress.com/news/2013/may/15/profile-jonathan-lee/) he was painted as the "Republican's Black Candidate". The paper poopooed him for trying to be a unifying force and a proponent of real meaningful progress (i.e., economic, educational, crime). But somehow we got this socially radical idiot.

...Good luck to all the liberals of all shades of the rainbow as you continue to prop up this rathole.

Be glad. Pretty much all the cops would do is block more lanes and stand around not helping clean up the mess.

Lee did it to himself in that debate performance. If it was a boxing match, the fight would've been stopped 2/3 of the way through. Having said that, Lee wound up being dead right unfortunately on Siemens.

I'm having trouble interpreting the MDES data. Their most recent website chart reports Hinds County had 206 new cases over the two-week period of April 20 - May 3, or 88.9 cases per 100,000 county residents. Check my math, but doesn't 88.9 cases / 100,000 residents / 14 days = an average daily new infection rate of 0.0000635 for Hinds County?

But he's fighting crime, right? And fixing potholes & paving streets, right? And repairing a water system & being transparent about everything all the time, right?

8:55 what are you smoking? How many blacks do you think even watched that debate? What beat him was being pegged as the "Black but white candidate" and his life was even threatened several times as he opposed the Siemens deal. This "deal" allowed bogus companies, minority of course, to be created as "minority contractors" that were clueless as to what they were doing (MAC, Socrates Garrett, etc). Has Siemens wanted to, they could have destroyed Jackson in a prolonged court fight, but said screw this shit show of a city, pay up and move on. Lee was "too white" for the 90 IQ'd fools running this place. Kingfish do you actually ever penetrate the black community, or are you like most whites, and opine from afar?

And if you point out the lunacy of voting for the same incompetent leadership, the Jxn fan boys will immediately use one of the standard retorts: You are racist, what are YOU doing to come up with solutions, or mind your own business you don't live here.

What they mean is, stop saying mean things and just give us money to "fix" the cesspool we made and continue to perpetuate.

Real change is hard. Thus those real solutions fall on deaf ears.

The only people I feel sorry for are the elderly that can not sell and get out because there houses are not worth what they paid for them n the 60's and they are on fixed income. The liberal dbags that think this will all work out can ride it down and I will laugh at them as they go. Stick a fork in Jackson. I live in Hattiesburg and it's creeping towards the same stuff Jackson started doing in the 80's. If Things don't level out I will be in great plains somewhere when I can retire. I won't be caught not being able to move away for the drug dealing and boom boom music in the 'hood.

Yes, I'm sure I know what those "real solutions" are. Which time and time again, are things the state could don't but don't. I wonder why?

Anonymous said...

I wish the Governor would step in and publicly acknowledge that Jackson doesn't need the mandate anymore. Its crazy to think that a mayor has more power than an actual governor in this regard. One would think that a state mandate, or lack there of, would usurp a city's authority.

Anonymous said...

10:38- I am not sure what the state can do to fix Jackson.

Yes, a start would be for the voters to stop supporting politicians who think the current catch and release type of program is acceptable.

But the core problem seems to relate to a society that no longer embraces moral decency. There is no value placed on life or work ethics. Just possessions and power.

Fatherless children created in mass to mothers who have no plan to feed and cloth them with out government assistance, much less participate in their education...I don't know how the state fixes that.

But by all means, lets applaud the mayor and his focus on keeping masks. Virtue signaling is imperative.

Do I ever "penetrate" the black community?

You might be surprised.

No.1 in Obesity.

He won’t do anything to stop the killing, car theft, water problems , etc but will continue to focus on masks....

What a buffoon....

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
