Hallelujah!

The Trump Administration is doing something about those vehicles that stop and start every time you idle your car.

I deactivate it as soon as I get in any rental that has the feature. If the government really wanted to reduce auto emissions, they'd synchronize traffic lights better and improve public transportation. When I go to even smaller cities in Europe, they have excellent bus and tram service, with trains connecting to the larger cities. Here it's all about the automobile.

Thank God! That’s most annoying having to bypass every time I get in the car.

Anonymous said...

Best news I've heard in a while. I hate those stupid things. Ask any mechanic and they'll tell you by the time you wear out a starter and pay parts and labor for a replacement, you've more than offset any savings from a medicine dropper of fuel every day of those start/stops.

Anonymous said...

So we are for regulations now?

Anonymous said...

The dreaded golf cart syndrome - very irritating.

Anonymous said...

The wear and tear on starters, flywheels and engine bearings is incredible. There are companies out there making devices which disable the feature automatically and it stays off unless you choose to turn it on. But, thankfully, this is being eliminated.

Rolling stop said...

It's probably the reason no one ever comes to a complete stop at a stop sign anymore.

Outstanding news!

Now please get rid of all the add-on bullcrap that renders modern gas cans barely usable.

These annoyances add up and really piss people off at the government. And for those who say "it isn't a big deal, just get over it," I say see election results 2024.

Regardless of whether it "should" annoy people, the fact is it does, and whenever that annoyance comes up, it's directed at Washington, DC. That's a lot of people getting annoyed on a regular basis, and thinking of you when it happens.

Hallelujah indeed !

That goofy mandate has been the one of the most asinine regulations ever placed on American car companies. While I was test driving my last truck purvhase back in 23', one of the first things the sales rep told me was what button to press to turn that idiotic feature off.

Anonymous said...

I picked up my father from the nursing home in my mom new car and it had a start/stop. I came to a red light and told my dad listen can you hear the engine he said no. I told him the engine will start back up when I take my foot off the brake. He was surprised and said back in his day once a car shut down it was broken.

Anonymous said...

@7:15 getting rid of a stupid regulation. I assume the manufacturer can still have it if they like, probably won’t sell any, but it won’t be mandated.

Your wearing out an $800 starter and a $300 battery to save $0.03 worth of gasoline, yep hands down a democratic invention!

Anonymous said...

I would contend that unlike your statement KF, not everyone hates them. And, at least in my vehicle, I have the option of turning that function off when I choose to - which is most of the time.

I'm not sure that this wears out an $800 starter, and it certainly doesn't wear out a battery - and it does save more than $0.03 of gasoline so comments such as 851's just show the ignorance of many JJ commenters.

I'm for eliminating any requirement that they be placed on cars - just as I'm against most all government intervention in such decisions. But - for those that want them, it should be an option just as AM/FM radios were back in the day, or for that matter, automatic transmissions.

If one wants to buy an EV, great. Let them do so. If one wants to buy a hybrid, get after it. And if you want this as an option to save on gas because your driving habits are such that its beneficial - get it. But - to Trump (and any future Bidens or Obamas) get the hell out of our decision making. Let those that still want to purchase bugy whips do so if it suits their fancy

Seems the engineers who designed this feature would consider the extra wear on engine parts. A few years ago, had battery light on in Chevy Venture van. Took it to dealership and said fix it, even if it’s the alternator, just fix it. They called and said yep it’s the alternator….price $800.00! I said, oh hell no, I’ll be right there. Cost $350.00 at independent mechanic. Point being, the dealerships love charging ridiculous prices for such stuff… and with engine stop feature, they get to replace a lot of parts before there normal wear out time. Crock-o-crap from the start. In my opinion…

Anonymous said...

Against. The idle stop feature is regulating how a person uses their vehicle.

Anonymous said...

Now we need to get rid of DEF and diesel emissions and take suppressors off the NFA list!

Anonymous said...

@ "I'm not sure that this wears out an $800 starter, and it certainly doesn't wear out a battery"

In overly simple terms, a battery (or a starter) has "x" number of starts in it. The more you start it, the less remaining life.

Anonymous said...

' Im not sure that this wears out an $800 starter, and it certainly doesn't wear out a battery :

Yeah, it has zero effect on a battery, but will ruin a starter within six months
(if it's not turned off) .

And the cost of a new starter these days is closer to $1,000.

Anonymous said...

The only exposure I've had to this "feature" was test driving a really nice Subaru. Wouldn't buy a vehicle where I couldn't switch it off. Has to be tough on starter system parts, especially in hick areas like Madison where the traffic signals aren't synched.

Anonymous said...

Let's say on a typical day you go to work, go to lunch and back, and make 2 stops on the way home. That's 5 starts a day. Now if you have a leftist weeniewagon and it restarts every time you pause, let's add in just 15 stop signs each way on that same trip. Now you have 35 starts a day, assuming no traffic jams or other unusual activity. Even with "heavy duty" batteries and starters, are they SEVEN TIMES as durable as the typical ones, and at what cost? And what about when there's a problem requiring a jump start? Are you gonna jump it off at every intersection?

Anonymous said...

I still get from 0 to 15 faster than any of the other cars when the light turns green. Some of you must have reflexes as slow as your brains.

Kingfish said...

Hope the starter doesn't go out while your wife and kids are at a busy intersection.

Anonymous said...

7:15 PM, FYI - this is called “deregulation.” Something Lib Arts majors won’t understand.

Auto Mfg’ers love the stop start feature since t’s just another profit making form of planned obsolescence. The fact that leftists fell for this idiotic so-called feature proves just how dumbed down our nation has become.

Anonymous said...

Yep - hate it. Just be sure to make sure current manufacturers issue a recall on current vehicles with this "feature" to get rid of it. I mean two parts too - 1. Disable it in the ECM 2. Remove that damned button from my console and put a blank in it's place.

Anonymous said...

BEST news ever!!!

Anonymous said...

What an accomplishment! World peace is just around the corner and there will be a chicken in every pot.

Anonymous said...

@7:15 no we're just not for stupidity.

Anonymous said...

I have yet to hear of someone having to replace a starter for this - that being said, mine doesn't use the starter to restart the engine

Anonymous said...

2018 Traverse. Can't disable it. Any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

"2018 Traverse. Can't disable it. Any suggestions. Thanks in advance."

On youtube, search for "2018 traverse start/stop eliminator." Buy the recommended bypass and use the video to install it.

I kept noticing this at red lights. Cars around me starting. Had no idea what it was. Asked my mechanic and he told me what it was. First thing out of my mouth----was this invented by company that makes starters? Absolutely stupid.

With there was an opt out for several "helpers" in cars.
I just want to drive my car.
I just want to take a shower and not spend an hour trying to get soap off with the drizzle
I just want to turn on the hot water and not get low heat water cause hot may burn.

7:52 pm, re gas cans. You can thank a stupid jury and judge for that one. Man poured gas from a gas can onto a fire, you can imagine what happened, he sued the gas can company, won multi million dollar verdict, put the company out of business, and now we have all the crap on a gas can.

Anonymous said...

8:07 AM No this is replacing an incentive (optional) with a regulation.

Anonymous said...

For those of you not paying attention to the broader picture: the net effect of all these EO's and tariffs is the creation of a planned economy. Pollical scientists have a word for this: SOCIALISM

Anonymous said...

If this is what truly concerns you…..a button you can turn off every time…..you living a pretty good life

Anonymous said...

@ 11:17. Yes I am living a good life. That button doesn't concern me. But I am VERY concerned about the government of a "free" country trying to force such things down my throat. Just exactly where in the Constitution is the government delegated the power to force buttons on us or to regulate any sort of consumer product?

Anonymous said...

@7:57 -- Hand held devices...that's one law (hands free) I can support. As much as I can't stand over regulation, jackass drivers who are glued to a screen in one hand as they drive are a danger to society. Those ass nuggets that block an intersection get a heavy horn...no nice beep-beep when I see a head looking down in front of me when the light changes!

Anonymous said...

5/12 @ 10:43, word is that Madison's lights are timed that way on purpose. It's unfortunate...properly timed lights reduce emissions, improve gas mileage, reduce wear and tear on vehicles, reduce fuel usage, reduce distracted driving (time to check the phone!), reduce travel time, and encourage speed limit compliance among others.

Some days it takes nearly 30 minutes to cross the city to MCHS due to hitting every single light. I love Mayor Mary, she has kept the city to a very high standard, however this is one policy that bites.

Well, if that's what the science says, we know the science can't be wrong.

How mechanically illiterate must someone be to think you can use a motor, which is what a starter is, and it not wear out? Any decent mechanic will tell you that an engine suffers the most wear at startup. What has happened to common knowledge that used to be so abundant?

Anonymous said...

Now that Trump’s addressed this, maybe Horhn can address the loud aftermarket mufflers on all the clown cars in Jackson.

@ "How mechanically illiterate must someone be to think you can use a motor, which is what a starter is, and it not wear out? Any decent mechanic will tell you that an engine suffers the most wear at startup. What has happened to common knowledge that used to be so abundant?"

Well since engines and motors are two entirely different things, I suppose you are the standard for mechanical illiteracy.

Anonymous said...

Sorry, 2:22, but 12:28 is right. A starter is a motor that starts your engine.

A nice Pinot Noir, or possibly a Merlot, will go great with your plate of crow.

Has anyone considered that emission control features make the cars use so much more fuel per mile that any emissions lowering comes at the cost of much more fuel usage? Across the board just ethanol in gas lowers your milage by 25 percent--how does that help anything exept feeding corn to cars instead of livestock we could eat for less money. How long with we be able to grow corn to burn in cars?

Anonymous said...

I hate that feature on my F-150 and it's just one more gadget that requires me to punch a button to either inactivate or reset it.

My truck is going on four years old and this feature has resulted in my transmission lurching when first put in reverse and other transmission issues. This is my fourth F-150 and none of them has had any transmission or shifting issues before this one.

This feature goes in the stupid column right after the elimination of the CD player.

Engines are powered by chemical energy sources, such as petroleum or alcohol. Combustion occurs in the engine, creating heat and expanding gases that produce mechanical work. Some types of engines, like steam engines, rely on external heat sources like coal or nuclear power.

Motors are powered by electrical or mechanical energy, typically supplied by batteries, power grids, or hydraulic pumps. Motors do not use combustion or heat; instead, they use electromagnetic or hydraulic forces to create motion.

Go eat your own crow.

1043: I've take this MIT article over your AI summary.

10:43, your last post is correct, except for the part about me eating my own crow. However, a gas burning car has both; a starter is an electric motor mounted to an engine. It is powered by the vehicle’s battery and is used to start the engine. The original poster you criticized was 100% correct, there was no need to go smart-ass on them. Enjoy your Pinot Noir.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
