Ridiculous

The horror stories about the Jackson office of the United States Postal Service are true.

Yours truly sent a package to Atlanta using priority mail.  Just read the tracking history.

The last update is February 22.  Just plain pitiful.  If you have similar stories, feel free to post them in the comments.

I thought I saw Benny T. on the news and he was fixing all this?

Will someone please ask Elon Musk to look into the lack of life the Main Office of Jackson MS post office@

Had 2 packages shipped (2 day priority) to Jackson in early January that sat in Jackson for 2 weeks, then they were inexplicably shipped back to Memphis briefly than returned to Jackson and sat for another 2 weeks before finally delivered.

Had a customer send my office a payment and it was postmarked in December and only arrived in mid-February.

That postal manager should win an Oscar for saying with a straight face that there was NO backlog or problems at all that they were aware of on WLBT last month.

Mailed 6 post dated checks (for monthly rent) in one envelope to south Louisiana. Mailed from Madison PO on December 30. I guess it all goes through Jackson. Never returned to me, by Jan 20 he had not received and I had to put a stop payment on all checks and resend new checks via FedEx. Old checks finally got there January 29, with a "January 23" post mark.

Two weeks sitting in Jackson Post Office before they even tried to deliver.

I mailed you a check last summer during your fundraising, still hasn't cleared.

We had some of the same problems. It also was delayed in Atlanta, so it's not just Jackson. We did finally get our package.

It is not just the Jackson PO, it is the whole system. I ordered a few items that were shipped from PA, and it took several weeks for them to arrive. One of them was routed through NC.

Company in B’ham AL sent me a priority letter and it came to Jackson, according to tracking, then went to New Hampshire where it was held up by weather, and took over a month to finally get back here to me in Rankin County…. Ridiculous!!!!!

Have heard from acquaintances that the Atlanta sorting facility is horrendous to the point that those south of Atlanta drive towards Jacksonville then put their mail in the system so that it doesn't get sorted in Atlanta on the way to it's destination.

it's 2025 , this should be at the top of his list. it's broken and the easiest thing to fix and would be another feather !

Mailed a package to our daughter in Chicago on Feb 10. She received it March 1. I have stopped paying bills through the mail.

This is what you asked for. Lower costs, meaning lower wages to Postal Workers, along with slower delivery. So, now, mail is not taken in the evenings to be processed, adding days to delivery. "First Class," which is the class of Priority Mail adding tracking, is now FIVE days, not 3. So, if it sits Tuesday night in the Post Office, its 5 days are ticking on Wed, so it might get going to Atlanta on Monday. They are cutting overnight trucks, air shipments, etc.

https://www.govexec.com/management/2024/02/usps-institutes-network-reforms-mail-delivery-hits-three-year-low/394388/

This is how you "run GubMint 'like a business'" and the alternative is UPS at 18 bucks. And UPS and FedEx don't swing by to deliver mail 6 days a week.

Read the article. Get up to speed instead of whining about what you all screech about, "Perfect instant service at slave labor cost wages and decrepit infrastructure." "them LAZY PARASITES ain't a running fast enough" right?

You get what you pay for. So pay more at Fedex or UPS. Enjoy.

I ordered my granddaughters a Valentine gift and it was shipped with tracking. It sat in the Jackson, MS distribution center for 11 days. Needless to say, it arrived in Brandon after Valentine day.

The problem is nationwide and has been going on for a while now. Anyone who is forced to use mail order pharmacies has been getting really screwed. You can, in large, part thank Amazon and all the other online companies who have taken advantage of an overwhelmed bureaucracy and outdated postal rules that force the USPS to provide last mile service at far less than the cost of delivery. Just last month UPS announced that it is walking away from a large chunk of their Amazon business because it is unprofitable. Ironic because Amazon wanted to bring UPS even more business. Why? Because after establishing a large delivery network of their own, Amazon realized how f'ing expensive the distribution gig costs and, instead of investing in even more network expansion, Amazon tried to determine if they could get the suckers they reliably fleeced all these years, like UPS, to take even more of their unprofitable business. Shit is breaking now. The whole cheap delivery model is unsustainable if it can't, at the minimum, break even.

Had a package (pair of shoes) make it to the Madison Post Office with tracking stating out for delivery for over 10 days. The day after I filed a complaint they showed up. The post master said he had multiple employees that had been prosecuted.

Mailed a $6,000.00 + check from the Madison Post Office to a Canton address. The check ended up in somebody’s bank account in Los Angeles. Thankfully the bank made it good.

In 2016 our P O Box cost was $112.00 for 12 months; it was $302.00 in 2024.

Shipped a cashier's check Priority Mail Express to Dallas early January.

Took 4 days. 3 days to get out of Jackson, 1 day once it got to Dallas.

Received a 100% refund.

All Priority Mail is getting you is a tracking number. They don't guarantee squat.

Don't waste the money.

FedEx or UPS if you absolutely positively have to have something somewhere on time.

As bad as this, is it’s not as bad as tens of thousands of dollars in mailed checks stolen then cashed from the Jackistan Post Offices

Abolish USPS and use UPS or FedEx.

Anonymous said...

FedEx can send a package half way around the world overnight. UPS can get a parcel coast to coast in a day or two. The Postal Service can’t get a letter across town in a week.
Privatize USPS !! They are losing $3 Billion annually, constantly raising their prices for poorer service and no employees have a pulse. PRIVATIZE !!!

Anonymous said...

No one on my Madison street got mail for 3 days last week even though the informed delivery emails said we had mail coming. Still have not got most of it.

Anonymous said...

7:02 Don’t be a smartass. We didn’t ask for this. The price to mail a letter has never dropped. The employees are parasites. And lazy. Bottom line.

Like everything else in Jackson the postal service doesn't work. Just think how truly bad it would be if Mayor Gumflapper had been in charge.

Anonymous said...

You can thank Trump and his hand pick Postmaster General Louis DeJoy for poor staffing at all postal positions. That along with a focus on delivering packages for Amazon and Temu, day to day mail service is not a factor in their mission. A job at the post office was once a cherished job, today most quit before the end of a year.

Bubba, a first class stamp is 73 cents. Fedex STARTS a 10 bucks, for a letter. UPS too. And a 1 lb package starts at 20 bucks, but can be 100 or more. Around the world overnight is 150 to 1300 dollars. Good grief. Do the math. And don't squawk 50 year old stereotypes comparing apples to oranges.

Had great carriers in my area for a long time. James was the carrier for years, did a great job, former Marine. Was transferred out to Pearl a few years ago then retired. The next one was Phoebe. She was fantastic. In fact, she was a little too good, so good she got promoted within a year or two. Now it's just different faces that show up in morning or late afternoon. No regular schedule as once was the case. Couldn't even tell you who they are as it seems to rotate.

Kingfish said...

The UPS mailbox I have is $100 cheaper than the same size box at USPS for a year.

When I was in the Lefluer post office a few weeks ago, I overheard a man say he had 42 checks stolen out of the drop boxes outside. He had paid bills with them and it was a while before he realized what was going on.

Seriously guys, if you are having to get your meds via mail order, talk to someone at your help desk and let them know what is going on. If you get no satisfaction, speak to their supervisor. With the post offices around the country being the mess that they are now, demand to have your prescriptions filled at your local pharmacy (and you can try to use an independent pharmacy that might be able to deliver to you). Just some friendly advice.

Anonymous said...

I had a similar experience. I tracked a package all the way across the United States but it disappeared after arriving at the Jackson post office.

Anonymous said...

I heard on the news the matter was being investigated by the authorities in Washington and they would increase OVERTIME to work out the problem. Overtime? The sorry ass workers who ARE the problem will now get a boost in pay for doing a half ass job. They know how to play the game.

Anonymous said...

I’ve had the same box since ‘97. I remember when I could bitch that they were 2 hours late, loading the boxes. I realize mailing is cheaper, but if they would just be honest about a realistic ETA, I’d be ok with it taking longer.

I ordered an item on Ebay on January 8. The seller shipped it out on January 9 and it arrived in Jackson on January 11, where it sat. On January 20 I reached out to the seller because it still had not arrived. He said if it hadn't arrived by February 1 reach out again and he would refund the money. February 1 rolled around and it still had not arrived. He refunded my money because for all we knew the thing was lost. It arrived on February 3.

We now hand-deliver our payments to our insurance agent in Madison (no longer mail to the corporate headquarters in another state) after our check for homeowner's insurance, mailed from Terry, MS, got "lost" in Atlanta.

I have a gripe with the financial industry and vendors trying to force us to use electronic payments and banking for everything. I will never use e-banking as long as there is a brick-and-mortar bank with humans working inside.

@6:17 am The problems at the post office began long before Trump took office. Your attempt to blame him makes you look like a moron, but that is what TDS does.

DeJoy is the Post Master General. He was appointed in 2020. His company ,Breed Logistics was a USPS contractor in the supply chain at the time. He had resided in Greensboro, N.C. in a 10,900 sq ft home . Breed merged with XPO logistics and DeJoy retired from the company. The first downsizing of the bureaucracy to make it more efficient happened under DeJoy's leadership so there is unlikely to be any need to change the USPS. He is still USPS Post Master General.

fed up in Jackson said...

My granddad was a postmaster in small town Mississippi a long long long time ago (40's 50's 60's) and to see that the individual stations were run like business and expected to perform w/ in budgets and track budgets was amazing.....and they were monitored at a national level......

Obviously, no accountability today......on several occasions when our mail deliverer has to get a fill in, we have had our mail simply thrown away. Our deliverer knows this, and has asked that this person never fill in on our route, but she continually does, and I have gone days w/o mail, and had checks being sent to me thrown away. I went to discuss w/ our postmaster, and waited 30 minutes and they never came out to see me.

There is no ownership, and jobs that were once valued and considered very honorable are filled by people that are simply taking advantage of the system. Not all, but alot......and that is probably partially responsible to the lack of leadership in Jackson, and people leaving Jackson

Krusatyr said...

UPS (not USPS in this case) can sidetrack small packages into a repeating loop. One of mine circled between Memphis and St. Louis for a week after first arriving in Jackson, MS, its intended destination. I attributed it to suspicion of criminal evidence, which it wasn't.

A few weeks ago I had a package arrive at the Jackson dist center, then go to Mobile, then back to Jackson and after another few days get delivered to Madison
This past weekend I received an empty Hazmat package in my mailbox, the corner was torn open and the contents gone. Amazon refunded the money.......I had to reorder as the item isn't stocked or offered by any business in the metro area, I just hope it's shipped by some other carrier

In the late ‘60s and early ‘70s in the town I grew up, population about 1,500, one could send a card or letter to someone else in town, addressing the item as “John Kingfish, City.” The item would be delivered that day or the next.

Then for some reason they went all efficient. All mail posted at the local PO had to be sent to Hattiesburg (later Gulfport and then, later still, Hattiesburg again) for “sorting” and was then sent back up the country for delivery.

I’m not certain what such a fail had to do with Trump, but I’ll wager someone reading this knows.

Anonymous said...

On several occasions when a package got "stuck" in one location for many days, I contacted the shipper and they initiated a trace on it. Magically, it moved the next day and continued moving to delivery.

Also, be cautious about FedEx. Most of the consumer shipments use FedEx Ground which is a completely different organization top to bottom than FedEx Express. Unfortunately the post-Fred Smith management is making FedEx Ground the model going forward.

Anonymous said...

Just don't use the postal service. You have options. Ship it Fed EX or UPS and make your payments online. I don't mail anything anymore.

What's sad is that its getting harder to buy things in Jackson. The two drugstores downtown closed. The Walgreens on Meadowbrook is set to close so it has very little inventory. I bought antiperspirant at the Walgreens on Old Canton and had to get someone to unlock it for me. But if you order something online it can take forever and there's a real possibility it will get stolen.

Anonymous said...

It's not just Jackson. I've had a package stuck in Georgia since January 12th! I filed a missing claim on February 6th & it still hasn't moved.

I had a $2000 Nvidia Geforce RTX 3090 graphics card disapear once it hit the USPS office in Jackson. This was during the extreme shortages of Covid Scamdemic. There was a lot of scamming of GPUs and it was a pain to get Newegg to refund me. But the money wasnt the real problem. It was impossiible to get another. It was a blessing in diguise because the RTX 3090 series turned out to be a disaster due to the lack of cooling for half the memory and very poorly designed PWM.

I’ve a lot of business with ebay sellers in Japan for years. Japan Post no longer transfers mail parcels over to USPS. They now use DHL for the last-mile delivery. When your national postal carrier becomes third world-tier, it should be a national embarassment.

It isn't just Jackson. Apparently, they've changed the system and it's causing issues in a multitude of ways. Research has shown me that changes to the system were anticipated 10 months ago with many people predicting this sort of problem. Of course, anything like that is going to be exacerbated here because a lot of Jackson is made up of lazy ass people.

Kingfish, this may help. The man who was the head of the post office has stepped down (Louis DeJoy). He had a plan to change the post offices and make huge distribution centers. He did this in Atlanta, GA. It was a horrific nightmare at this facility. It got so bad that members of congress subpoenaed him. News would show tons of 18 wheelers, lined up for hours, just trying to drop off mail. Inside the facility was a nightmare. They even had a few who would take the mail out for delivery, toss it in the woods, then take the rest of the day off. Luckily, the police found out about it, recovered mail, and those few folks are sitting in prison (federal crime). Do a search for news on the Atlanta distribution center and you'll be amazed. It has taken about a year for them to clean this distribution center up. My mail to folks in GA is finally getting through like normal.

The distribution center idea was a horrible one. Hopefully with DeJoy gone, that idea is gone too.

I had a priority mail letter get lost in Atlanta. Used the USPS link to put a tracer on it (https://www.usps.com/help/missing-mail.htm). They were excellent about emailing me updates. Unfortunately, mine was never found. But I still use USPS. Haven't had any issues since then. Yea, its aggravating when something goes wrong. I can totally understand.

These problems are never going to change because we arent allowed to openly talk about the source of the problems despite how glaringly obvious it is. It is the same problem at Boeing and GM and everywhere else that relies on competent workers who arent lazy trash protected by unions. And I am not blaming the unions because they existed in the 40s, 50s, and 50s. Something else has happned to the workforce.

But wait...the USPS will soon be switching to...wait for it....E-vehicles. What could possibly go wrong? For starters, those vehicles will catch on fire along with the mail inside.

6:17 This has been like this for over a year. Can't blame it on Trump.

Newman!

"You can thank Trump and his hand pick Postmaster General Louis DeJoy for poor staffing at all postal positions."

This all started in the last 4 weeks since Trump took office? How did this all happen so suddenly?

Dear 8:39. Sorry, I was incorrect. The Postal Service CAN’T get a letter across town in a week or ever. So, regardless of what a stamp costs, you’re getting ripped off. You are obviously one of the referenced USPS employees with molasses in their bodies, no pulse and no concept of customer service.

On TOP of the routing / lost mail issues outlined above, USPS is having to do other things, like removing the drop boxes in front of post offices due to theft! (At least the Evers PO in downtown did.) I wish KF would let me comment on that.......

Here's a trick: Use Priority "Overnight" mail. It gets there a lot quicker than regular mail but never gets there by the promised date. Since it didn't get there by the promised date, you then get a refund. Apply online for the refund and in a few days you get a check in the mail from the USPS.

I watched the head of the postal service testify before congress. It became apparent to me the wrong guy was hired to do that job within 5 minutes of watching. And that's why I took interest in it because the mail is as bad as I've ever seen it.

DeJoy was picked by Trump in 2020.

DeJoy was appointed in May 2020 by the Board of Governors of the USPS. If he's the problem, why is he still in that position after 5 years? Evidently, the Biden administration didn't have a problem with him. Or, is it that no one is really paying attention to performance, but only enacting partisan bullshit during the vetting process?

I would really like to see an independent analysis of the USPS surface routing network. There is a lot going on with the performance of the large Surface Transfer Centers https://www.uspsoig.gov/sites/default/files/reports/2023-01/21-212-R22.pdf The STC for us are, Southern area (Dallas)m Seminole (Orlando), Atlanta, and Memphis. I seems to defy logic to have such a coarse network. Why not have transfer spots every 250 miles or so? I would also like to know what is the power play going on. Is it a union thing or political pushback https://about.usps.com/what/business-services/suppliers/forms-publications/re-supply-02-14-25.pdf

This is the link I used to report that distrubtion center to the higher ups. I got it off of wlbt thread about the slow services coming out of Jackson. https://emailus.usps.com/s/postal-facility-inquiry

Post Master General Louis DeJoy has resigned.

@7:08 AM Maybe the bar code is damaged/corrupted and thus being misread by the automatic routing system.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.

Trollfest '07

Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Kamikaze will perform his new song F*** Bush, he's still a _____. Did I mention there was no referee? Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.

There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Tackleberry will be on hand for an autograph session. KIM Waaaaaade will be passing out free titles and deeds to crackhouses formerly owned by The Wood Street Players.
