Bill Crawford: Few Expected Trump's Onslaught of Disruption

“Double, double toil and trouble.”

Not sure why the sudden troubling and unconstrained disruption engendered by President Donald Trump, Elon Musk, Russ Vought, and team remind me of that line from Macbeth, but it does.

No doubt the following goaded my subconscious:

Federal payments for grants and contracts frozen then quickly unfrozen; a trade war with Columbia announced then rescinded; 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada announced then paused; USPS parcel deliveries from China and Hong Kong suspended then reinstated – all causing panic followed by fearful, temporary relief.

Most federal workers told they should consider a buyout or face layoffs; FBI agents told they may face terminations or reassignments based on their officially assigned involvement in January 6 riot prosecutions; freezing all foreign assistance for 90 days and dissolving USAID; Elon Musk teams accessing and locking federal officials out of sensitive computer systems – all causing more anxiety and fear.

Threats to invade Canada, Panama, and Greenland; the declaration of national emergencies for oil production and southern border immigration; reclassifying federal civil service workers as political hires and issuing a freeze on hiring; a freeze on all pending and proposed federal regulations pending review; proposals to terminate FEMA and the Department of Education; an order ending birthright citizenship; ordering health agencies to suspend all communications; sending troops to secure the borders; suspending all refugee programs; renaming the Gulf of Mexico; cancelling asylum for Afghans who supported the U.S. military; creating a migrant detention center at Guantánamo Bay in Cuba; halting off-shore leasing for wind farms; rescinding 78 Biden executive orders in one fell swoop; abruptly ending DEI programs in the military and government agencies – all causing consternation and/or confusion.

In his first two weeks, the President issued 53 executive orders with new ones announced daily since then. He has denied knowing anything in the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 playbook but much of what he has proposed comes right out of it.

One of Project 2025’s key authors, Russ Vought, is Trump’s incoming head of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) which drives many of the President’s initiatives. Vought’s prescription in Project 2025 for a strong, conservative president called for “boldness to bend or break the bureaucracy to the presidential will.” Fear and anxiety can do that.

Many, especially his ardent supporters, expected Trump to be disruptive during his second term. But few expected this sudden, startling onslaught of disruption. And none predicted the firestorm a seemingly all-powerful Elon Musk would spark as the “temporary government employee” in charge of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

We can only pray all this disruption does not descend into chaos.

“For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction” – Matthew 7:13.

Crawford is the author of A Republican’s Lament: Mississippi Needs Good Government Conservatives.

Bill, go wipe yourself and change your diaper.

All this must be shocking to a party that makes noises about having a conservative agenda but doing little toward that end when in power. It must be shocking indeed to have a president actually try to follow through on what he said he stood for. That kind of thing just isn’t done, at least by Republicans. Yes, Trump is like a bull let loose in a rodeo, but that actually is something that has been needed for some time. Institutional Republicans had their chances, but all they did was a little window dressing while starting forever wars, breaking a balanced budget, doing their part to put the country 37 trillion in debt, to name a few conservative positions. The only thing they may claim is that they did finally manage to understand and correct the damage done to the judiciary by Democrats. That is not a small accomplishment, but it is unfortunate that they fail to notice that it took someone like Trump to actually nominate people for judicial positions who reject the “living constitution” notions that Democrats have used for years to accomplish public policy goals. Institutional Republicans nominate people like David Souter and Harriet Myers. So, yes, it would not be surprising to see members of the Bush brand of soft focus conservatism taken aback by what Trump is doing. Washington needs a good shaking up.

America will soon be the Cybertruck of countries—uglier than you could have imagined, built for rich chuds, borderline inoperable, and on fire.

What's best for Mr. Musk is best for the U.S.A. But it will take a few months to smooth out the rough edges. Just wait.

4 years of Blue Cult tears ahead. The disease of the left has to be cured.

It doesn't say much for previous politicians when people are so shook up when a person keeps his promises.

Methinks Bill is mad at Trump. That means we’re going in the right direction.

KF - WHY do you continue to publish this drivel?

If Trump and Elon can accomplish half their agenda, this republic might be able to survive another century. The icing on the cake that might set the entirety of humanity back on course would be to document and record in the history books who is responsible, what they did, and how they did it. We may not be able to execute these demon worshipping vampires, but we can damn sure name them and prevent them from just doing it again after the next election cycle.

Crawford is just another democrat upset that the status quo is no longer the status quo.

9:22 -- Bill doesn't wear a diaper. Trump actually does.

Democrat Stephen A Smith said “The man (Trump) was impeached twice. He was convicted on 34 felonies, and the American people still said he’s closer to normal than what we see on the left.”

Democrat Bill Maher agrees with Trump that Department of Education should be abolished. “When the Department of Education was created in 1977, our reading scores and math scores for kids fourth and eighth grade were higher than they are today. So it’s not worked,” he added.

US tax payer dollars were funding transgender Opera’s and transgender comic books? Thank God for Donald Trump and Elon Musk.

Whaddya mean “Few”??? Almost half of the country fully expected chaos and voted accordingly, i.e. against him.

Anonymous said...

President Trump simply is doing what he said he would do if reelected POTUS. I don’t agree with everything he proposed, but I don’t agree with much of anything the rigged Democrat stand-in proposed, if I unraveled her double-speak rhetoric correctly.

It’s quite ironic and humorous to see all the cultists that voted for him to “own the libs” are now finding out that they mostly owned themselves (the ones with slightly higher than room temp IQ anyway).

REMINDER: These are the same people who lost their minds when Elon stopped censoring X/Twitter and added “Community Notes” which add valuable context to every controversial “viral” bit of info.

In my observation that has included fact checking about false claims made about Chinese EV manufacturer BYD, Tesla’s most successful global competitor. For those who don’t know, competition from BYD is why you can buy a Tesla for cheaper than a new Camry.

There's always a big crowd at all the intersections where Dunning Avenue meets Kruger Street.

12:28 PM, I absolutely love it when Democrats bring up IQ. You want to require an IQ test for all members of congress? See how that works out for Democrats? Can’t wait for the response!

I don’t believe the democrat party even has half the voters they claim to have. I am certain Trump won because over 80% of the voting population turned out and voted for him.

This is evident by the numbers of votes at Trump rallies in every state. The percentage of democrat votes over that 20% is merely their complex network of voter fraud.
It just wasn’t enough this time.

The nation overwhelmingly voted for Trump and the democrat traitors simply didn’t have enough fake votes to steal the election again.

It’s only a matter of time before the Trumper’s start ignoring judges orders. We are definitely headed towards a crisis. All you idiots who worship Trump ran for a rude awake.

@1:39pm - And the MAGAtards are going to blow their tops when they realize their social security, Medicare, Medicaid, ACA, and other entitlements they love to rely on are gone and the funding goes into Musk’s pockets to “orbit Mars.” But hey, who needs any of those things when we can give them to the world’s first trillionaire to fly to space rocks and stroke his giant ego.

@2:35 Y’all libtards need a new straw man to “chicken little” about. You have been claiming that every POTUS right of Carter is going to take away SSS and Medicaid.
Meanwhile, you say nothing with Biden spends all of FRMA’s budget housing illegals in hotels and let’s the hurricane ravaged Carolinians freeze in their tents!
Y’all love to falsely accuse the right of doing this bad things you ACTUALLY DO!

I don’t even know why I waste my time trying to educate the low IQ MAGAts here. Trump literally said he “loves the uneducated” and yall cheered him. He also said “I don’t care about you, I just want your vote.” And yall still voted for him. Then yall lost all your money on Trump meme coin. Earth needs another asteroid and a new gene pool.

The ignorance shown by some of the comments on this site makes me wonder at the overall intelligence level of my neighbors - it appears that many folks get their entire knowledge of what is happening in the world around us from others on social media and fail to inquire as to its accuracy.

Every once in a while Crawford produces a column that at least hits on items that (1) matter, and (2) contains accurate assessment of the items. Here he has done it again - and while he hasn't opined on them specifically, just pointed them out - these JJ readers have gone into a tailspin trying to defend DJT while suggesting Crawford is an imbicile.

DJT's actions have gone overboard, but will result in little at this point. Executive orders don't create law; claiming the elimination of agencies established by statute doesn't close them down; and even after the Congress does take action in some cases - probably the Dept of Education - many of the functions will continue just as they did before Carter moved those functions from the Health Education and Welfare Cabinet position to his new Department.

The thing is not about labels, but about the policy of running those programs - this holds true for Dept of Education, USAID, and others. USAID has not been pissing away dollars on transgender support for the six decades of its operation - only during the past four. The wasted dollars here can be cut but some of the things USAID has done actually do need to continue. Dept of Ed programs promoting the looney left's ideas were the result of Uncle Joe's concepts, not just the fact that the Dept existed; yes, it doesn't need to be a separate dept - not every function requires a seat at the Cabinet table. But a small portion of the funding of state schools comes from the federal government and my bet is it will continue -- remember, Congress is a co-equal part of government and while Trump wants to ignore that little nit, he will get reminded of it just as he is being reminded of the third partner: Justice. (Yes, JD didn't learn much with his JD from Yale saying that Judges have no business telling the executive what they can and can't do, but what would one expect from someone that could switch so easily from his disdain for Trump to his absolute adoration of the man?)

Crawford hits home with this one and his pointing out these moves evidently hits home to many who love to waste their time (as I do) reading JJ. I read it more for the comments than the posts, but both are always entertaining, and sometimes informative.

It's called the Separation of Powers junior. Judges cannot tell the Executive Branch how to prioritize their resources. Period.

6:26 am They damn well used to be able to rule on the law. They are supposed to hold both the Executive and Congressional branches in check and balance to keep them from acquiring too much control over the wealth of and people of a country in their control.
Prosperity happens when the middle class is strong and the ruling class are benevolent.
It takes a long time to bring back jobs and industry. Our old steel mills can't be brought back online quickly. Their factories and equipment are "rusted".
And, the rest of you MAGA devotees ought to worry about what happens when all three branches are ruled by one party who march in lock step with their party leader and the balance of three separate but equal branches is gone. Too many "rulers" only about money and power for themselves. They keep forgetting that eventually the " hordes" swarm the gates. That's how empires fall.
It bodes ill for the entire world that the wealth and resources of the world are in the hands of not quite 3000 billionaires that control nearly $14 trillion dollars. And, sadly, rather than reinvest it in the prosperity of their homelands.
Denmark, Sweden Norway and Finland are now the world's most prosperous countries. The richest countries, however, are Luxembourg, Ireland, Singapore, Macao, Arab Emirates, Qatar, Norway and Switzerland. Hong Kong carries China. That index is based on GDP and constancy of prices the people pay. This is what we get from making decisions based on the propaganda of two parties that are very rich and on " judging the book" they offer (our leaders) by its "cover". But, y'all decided on trusting "rich" rather than to be part of "prosperous". PS: The Musk family wasn't poor in South Africa. Musk and his brother borrowed money from their Daddy to start their companies.
Y'all can look this stuff up, for God's sakes.

Just curious, did you say anything or feel bad when Obama and the Democrats controlled all three branches? In fact, they had a filibuster proof majority in the Senate for a time. Were your good government sensibilities so offended then?

Anonymous said...

Did you forget to pay your Pest Control service this month KF?

Anonymous said...

Government sensibilities, or even dead children in the cities they control, never matter when Democrats are in charge.

In 2008 Democrat Senator Harry Reid described Barack Obama “as a light-skinned African-American with no Negro dialect.” When Obama became president, Reid’s mistake meant Reid could either become Obama’s b____h, or go down faster than Trent Lott did.

So, in 2013 Harry Reid led the change to the historic filibuster rule. i.e. changed it so Barack could have his way. In 2021, “Obamaworld” wanted to kill the filibuster altogether.

Bottomline, Democrats want to rule the world and will change any rule or break any law to accomplish this, then cry like b____s when the other side plays even a similar game.

Yep. The boomers lust for destroying this nation seems to be endless. They couldn't stand the "square" world of their parents and destroyed traditions. They ruined their gen X kids. And they plan to leave nothing for their Millennial grand children and Gen Z great grandchildren!

Anonymous said...

It's worse than bad. It's more ominous than "just wait and ses." And that's because "it bodes ill."

Anonymous said...

2:37 PM, too many millennials think it’s cool to vote for stupid s__t like Obama Care, student loans paid off for idiots that got worthless degrees, hotel rooms to shelter illegals (the list is long), then complain and blame an entire boomer generation for the financial disaster heading their way. As if all boomers vote the same.

The good news is a lot of Gen Z’s have it figured out.

Anonymous said...

But, we don't need entertainment because we have you to laugh at. You should, be concerned about the leaderless Democrat party.

Anonymous said...

In addition to a lot of Gen Z’s having it figured out, African Americans are on to the grifter Democrat partnership with the White Liberal scam. Rising stars DeVory Darkins and Brandon Lehman, as well as others are helping make sure of this.

Anonymous said...

I’ve heard over and over on the MSM and the Twitterverse how Obama and Biden deported more illegals than Trump. Curiously, however, there weren’t any lefties wailing about it, and there weren’t any reports I saw of fedjudges blocking said deportations. Obviously, then, it’s not important to lefties who is being deported; one simply needs to know who is doing the deporting.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
