Hinds County District Attorney Robert Shuler Smith wants to ban all cameras from his upcoming trial in Rankin County. The Attorney General is prosecuting the District Attorney on two separate indictments for simple domestic violence, aggravated stalking, and robbery. The two sides are also warring over whether testimony about alleged repeated incidents of domestic violence and drug use can be admitted as well.
The prosecution filed a motion on October 24 to bar cameras from the courtroom when two domestic violence victims testify. However, Mr. Smith filed a motion later that day to ban all camera coverage of his trial. The motion states:
The Attorney General is prosecuting the District Attorney on two separate indictments for simple domestic violence, aggravated stalking, and robbery. The two sides are also warring over whether testimony about alleged repeated incidents of domestic violence and drug use can be admitted as well. The state intends to have the victim and another woman testify about incidents of alleged domestic violence they suffered from the defendant. The A.G. also wants to present pictures taken by Sandy Middleton of the Mississippi Coalition for Domestic Violence. See earlier post about RSS's fight to bar testimony.
What is also interesting is this entry in the docket:
10/19/2017 MOTION TO TO SUBSTITUTE COUNSEL (GILLIAM & CRAWFORD)Does this mean attorney John Reeves no longer represents the District Attorney?
The case is scheduled to go to trial on October 31. Circuit Judge John Emfinger will preside over the trial.

RSS fired Reeves the day after interlock was denied.
RSS didn't fire Reeves. He fired RSS. (I.e.: quit)
No really, RSS fired Reeves. RSS wanted to bring in another defense attorney to build a legal team but could not find a reputable attorney who would work with Reeves.
The Law is owned by lawyers. I'll be surprised if he get convicted at all.
529... New "reputable" attorneys...too bad the hinds DA is not reputable ..Just another stall tactic. Sure hope RSS loses on this one. Criminals of Hinds county hopes he wins but the good folks hope he's out
Personally, I believe almost all domestic violence involves drugs and/or alcohol. Otherwise they are just vicious and mentally ill. To not allow testimony regarding any mind altering or mood altering chemical is to deny justice. We need him out of office in Hinds County.
This may be the last time Big Stan has a chance to beat RSS
Make it count Stan- frankly your future as potential
Hnds County DA and our future as citizens are up in the air. Carpe
Diem Stanley- Carpe Diem
