Flashback Friday

Enjoy this 1970 clip of the LSU-Ole Miss game. It's pretty interesting to watch.

Put up the 72 game where LSU at home, got 2 plays off in 4 seconds to beat Ole Miss, or the 69 game with MSU, when MSU got 3 plays, not 4, inside the 5....at LSU of course.

KF has never claimed to be an independent “journalist “. Lay off of him.

I was at that game. The LSU fans were wanting their players to kill Archie. They are yelling in unison, " we want Archie" after the coach finally took him out of the game. He had beaten them two years in a row. He played with a broken arm and a cast on it. There is some talk by Ole Miss people to schedule LSU as the last game of the year. MSU has taken their rivalry with us way too far. It has become a sickness with them.

Don't worry. The NCAA is going to administer a cure for that "sickness" later this year. Enjoy your rivalry with Delta State.

I'm a die-hard LSU fan but in a strange sorta way, watching and listening to the Ole Miss band and fans makes me sad; to think of the pride and tradition that they used to have; things that political correctness have taken away.....and continue to take away......sad

It's just not the same without Margie and Blanche "throwing up a fin".

Both USM and State beat Ole Miss that year. That was the year that Willie Heidelberg de facto integrated Ole Miss. I have never understood why Archie is so revered at Ole Miss. I guess it’s because they have nothing else.

1:46, have you heard of glass houses? It's coming.

10:26- Please tell me what Ross told Hugh to tell the press. I'll wait while you go put on your rasslin' belt.

Long live political incorrectness and other assortments of dissidents, "hate speech", and crime think!

9:51...Archie was easily one of the top ten SEC players of all time, finished in the top five of the Heisman voting twice, and was the second overall pick in the NFL draft. Bear Bryant said he was the best quarterback he ever saw play. Yeah, nothing special.

All the way up to the top five, huh? I wonder how many other universities worship their alumni who finished all the way up to the top five in the Heisman voting almost fifty years ago. Like I said, I guess Ole Miss has nothing else. Enjoy your ancient, fifth best, beaten by USM and State, special-to-you,hero.

Well, I said LSU was so thin on the lines that they were one injury away from disaster. Lawrence didn't make the trip. There you go.

I have a semi-related comment if Kingfish will allow a bit of latitude. Following those videos led me to the famous 1959 punt return and news articles. Ole Miss scored an early field goal for the lead. I know the game is different now, but WHY in the world did the Rebs punt on FIRST DOWN three times in the third quarter. Do any of your older readers have any insight? Truly fascinating stuff when you research the facts of the whole game.

John C,

The 89yd punt return by Billy Cannon for a TD for LSU was from an Ole Miss punt on 3rd down.

The reason for the punts was that Ole Miss had one of the best defenses, ever. As did LSU. 7 games in, both teams had allowed just one opponent touchdown. When the season was over and Ole Miss beat LSU 21-0 in the Sugar Bowl, Ole Miss had allowed just 3 touchdowns, 21pts, all season. None of the 3 touchdowns were from a drive longer than 8 total yards. Ole Miss outscored opponents 350-21 that year.

It was wet, therefore Ole Miss considered a field position game with the 3-0 lead and 2 very strong defenses on each sideline.

As another aside, exactly 20 Halloweens later, Billy Cannon, Jr returned a punt for 89yds (in a HS game) while playing against Billy Cannon, Sr's old high school.

It's called the quick kick. It typically gains an extra 20-30 yards on a punt with no return. It is used only when one has one hell of a defense. Bear used it throughout his career until he retired. Its a great tool if one is trying to "flip the field" or win the field position battle.

Was this ass whipping back in 1970 or last week. Except for the women's hair and the players skin, looks like they could be interchangeable

After going to the LSU-Ole Miss game this past weekend, there could be many more of these types of blowouts in the coming years. It was sad to hear Ole Miss fans booing Matt Luke for conservative play calling and kicking a field goal on 4th and short during the game.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
