Senator Thad Cochran issued the following statement.
“I
am pleased to be back in Washington where I look forward to continuing
work on the 2018 appropriations bills and to taking part in the debate
on the budget and tax cuts. I appreciate all the support and kind
words I received while at home.”
Cochran
continues to be treated for urological issues and remains under medical
supervision, which could affect his work schedule.

That was a miraculous recovery!
Senator Yoda and his Jedi mind tricks— gotta love ‘em.
He didn't want to be late to the Cocktail Party !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Modern day version of Weekend at Bernie's
The Barbour klan wants every last ounce of pork wrung out of Senator Geritol and they'll pay Morgan Freeman million$$$ to push him around in a wheelchair if that is what it takes.
But, but, but, McDaniel told us that he was going to retire right after his re-election and name Barbour as his replacement!
I can appreciate there is real frustration with Wash DC right now and rightfully so. But so many people are on here disrespecting a man who has committed his life to public service and making the state a better place and you need to show respect for that. You are about on the same level of the kneeling snowflakes of the NFL. If there was a better person to have beat him, it is a free country--they could have run and the people would have decided different but they didn't so live with it. Stop hating the player and hate the game.
Serious question: When is the last time Thad actually spoke to the media and there's video evidence of the interview? Date, please.
@ 4:15 well said. It’s the internet and the arm chair warriors are STRONG
So, it's wrong to question the koolaid? Hey Elites....doesn't the public have a right to hear from their "publicly" elected representatives? We, the peasants, are getting tired of the nobles telling us there is nothing to see and to move on.
WALLACE, WALLACE, WALLACE, WALLACE, WALLACE!!!!!
Thad has not 'spoken' to the media in three years. Nor is there any video record of his lucidity. Like all of our paid officials on the hill, he still has youngsters on the payroll who speak for him so as to make it appear he's still alive and well. But, really, it happens to all of these people, not just Thad.
I hope he is resting well in the basement apartment his lady friend, now wife, rented him for eight years. He deserves a long nap. Somebody from the left will show up in a van and get him to the hall to register his democrat vote. Wouldn't it save money if he and McCain were hauled up there in the same vehicle?
He didn't want to be late to the Cocktail Party !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He's not a drinker. But, actually, he did not want to be late for the dem conference.
4:18
I saw him at dinner not long ago and we had a lengthy conversation about many items.
He was lucid and enjoyed his meal.
Seemed fine to me.
All you “anti smoking device” “anti Parkinson’s device” morons are nothing but useful Russian tools.
What Cochran committed his life to is speaking out of both sides of his mouth. He is, in part, why Trump got elected.
It is time to retire Thad but Chris McDaniel is not the answer.
4:15 and 4:41 -- Nope it's those of us who are working our ass off and paying LOTS of taxes, and seeing someone who heads up the most powerful committee in the world, totally incompetent or at best with dementia, sitting as our Representative in DC. Hell he went to the wrong lunch room a few years ago (Democrat and not Republican). I voted on him -- would not do it again. I wouldn't say a better person could have beat him (McDaniel was cringe worthy), but I will say McDaniel, by all measures, probably did, and then Haley and the rest ensured the system trumped everything else. We all followed their guidance on the "power" Cochran had and how we wanted to ensure we kept that going in DC -- for what??? Nothing has been completed in the last 2 years. We see it now and feel like idiots -- we threw our votes away for nothing. Our choices actually were death and pestilence in the last election cycle.
The ones who are abusing this poor old man are those who are around him (i.e. staffers). They're propping him up as they prepare to exit to other jobs and positions of power. Sick and sad system.
Wicker has less of an excuse than Cochran. Cochran is just old and tired. Wicker is just incompetent. Those who follow him around, only do so out of curiosity.
@ 4:18 well said. It’s the internet and the arm chair warriors are STRONG
Word on the street is Schumer and Pelosi sent a charter jet to Jacktown-Medgar to carry him back to DC for the next several votes. Of course it was simply benevolence. And you know there was no way in hell he could fly commercial.
5:03 -- YUP -- "Like all of our paid officials on the hill, he still has youngsters on the payroll who speak for him so as to make it appear he's still alive and well."
.........And none of them have a clue about the real world, real life, and have any depth to be in the positions they're all currently working in, on the Hill. I speak from having a personal experience related to a highly technical issue, and there was no one who had a clue what I was talking about much less having the ability to investigate the issue. It lost Mississippi jobs.
Trust me -- arrogance abounds, they associate themselves and their power with that of Senator Cochran, and have absolutely NO CLUE about anything in life......straight out of college for the most part, and condescending. Same old same old in Wicker's office also, however they make themselves and the Senators all feel important. It's a self-licking ice cream cone up there.
Senator Food Stamp can’t spell his own name. Kay Webber represents Mississippi.
7:17 The city in which you reside gladly took those food stamps, but State Senator Car Tags is the True Conservative™ who’ll fix Mississippi and Washington, right?
Sad to say, but Mississippi deserves Chris McDaniel. We absolutely deserve to be flushed down the toilet into further obscurity while he and his red-hatted army scream about their "principles." That ilk would have called Reagan a "RHINO" [sic].
I went to Washington as part of a group that stopped a destructive pork barrel highway project that Cochran got earmark funding for. The frat boys that ran his office tried to talk us out of coming to see Cochran.
I always thought Cochran was a good guy, but learned then that he is owned by the special interests with money. We learned a lot about how rotten politics is.
I REALLY wanted to vote against Senator Pork-Barrel Cochran in the last election, but McDaniel was worse than Cochran. McDaniel is nothing but a greedy, power hungry, self serving greedy trial lawyer masquerading as a conservative in order to get elected to a powerful position.
Y'all need to go back and re-read your American political history books. This is how the sausage has been made since the dawn of the Republic. The techno-media era has just exposed it to a more intense degree.
You see, politicians trade to get the things they need to get re-elected (e.g., LBJ, Boss Tweed, Henry Clay's Corrupt Bargain, Truman/Pendergrast, etc. "Let's send people up there who just want to do good things and not tax us so bad" isn't now nor will it ever be how a representative democracy works. And if we were ever so naive to do that, the favors would just go to Montana, Minnesota, or Michigan. [mic drop]
10:13 -- the problem is we ain't gettin' no favors here in Mississippi -- no sausage is being made -- and if we all bought into the "system" and how things work, we sent the wrong people up there to do the job.
Since so many of you are throwing around the word " dementia", you might want to know what symptoms characterize dementia. They are as follows:
Memory loss
Declining motor function
Behavioral changes ( irritability, anxiousness, verbal outbursts, agitation)
Paranoia ( believing others are conspiring against you or causing your problems, believing others are your enemies if they do not agree with you with the accompanying combative behavior )
Disorganization
Inappropriate sexually related actions or tasteless remarks
Cognitive decline ( in thinking, reading , learning, retaining information, problem solving, language)
Hallucinations ( late stage)
There is also "sundowning".Symptoms increase after the sun goes down or light diminishes. The accompanying lack of sleep or sleep disruption add sleep deprivation symptoms to the mix.
I know those in politics who have displayed more than one of these symptoms from their public behavior or in the media, and it's not Senator Cochran or Senator McCain either.
Perhaps we need a new addition to qualifications for office starting with an MRI of the brain and testing for Alzheimer's and dementia or serious personality disorder.
Of course, if you suffer from a mental disorder, you will find it hard to recognize those symptoms.
Completely agree with 4:15! Well said. Thad Cochran has served this State competently and with dignity.
Are you all a bunch of fools---don't you know everything Thad stands for is driven by the "Almighty Dollar". Dignity starts with a D just like dollar.
I call "BULL SHIT" on all these ramblings------
9:59, I was in complete agreement until this sentence.
"I know those in politics who have displayed more than one of these symptoms from their public behavior or in the media, and it's not Senator Cochran or Senator McCain either"
You lost me there as a person watching them would think your description is spot on for both.
Well, 10:49, I'll TRUMP you and call the same on you. Your disrespect for a gentleman who has served his state well is senseless and unnecessary. Your Mr. McDaniel is a great danger to our state and country, with his ego and unwillingness to compromise. He would accomplish NOTHING.
1:18,
I don't believe I said a word about McDaniel.
All of our elected officials are about the MONEY!!! What planet have you been living on ????
Kingfish-perhaps a poll on who will be appointed when Cochran suddenly retires next year
4:18 here....I stand corrected:
http://www.politico.com/story/2017/10/18/thad-cochran-says-not-retiring-senate-243918
Too bad the 25th Amendment doesn't apply to incapacity for Congressmen.
Wow -- everyone needs to read 6:33 (aka 4:18)'s link. WOW!!! What can we all say???
11:33 McCain displayed symptoms of the brain tumor he has. Those symptoms have disappeared since his surgery.
If there is specific evidence of dementia in Thad Cochran, I have not seen it in the media or in person. I have seen normal signs of aging . No one his age is as sharp or energetic as they were in their 30s.
If you have a specific, documented reference to repetitive instances of symptoms I listed ,list those instances. Unless the symptoms are repetitive or worsen, they can be attributed to other causes such something as simple as a reaction to medication.
If you can't, your opinion is baseless.
The trashing of people based on rumor or one person's undocumented observation is nothing more than vicious gossip.
7:06 -- Glioblastoma is the most aggressive form of brain cancer. McCain by his own admission stated that he had a 3-14% chance of survival. I'm not sure those symptoms have disappeared and are not impairing his decision making capabilities. If you have lung cancer -- does it disappear with surgery? Probably not and requires other supporting treatments.
There is an argument to be made that everything McCain does, says, signs, votes on in Congress, etc., can be subject to legal intervention at some point. I had a family member who had this form of cancer a few decades ago, and they were not even allowed to create a will, and were in the middle of a divorce that was halted, etc., based on their physical condition (glio and a brain tumor -- were they making decisions that were based on "sound mind"?). It is aggressive, and from having dealt with it PERSONALLY -- the affected person's decision making capabilities, cognitive abilities, etc. are GREATLY affected. Ask any doctor. Just the brain surgery will affect them tremendously, not to mention the disease.
Same could be said of dementia, but my guess is we're too concerned with larger party agendas, personal agendas, and political correctness connected to sensitive subjects (potential death in McCain's case and Alzheimers/dementia in the case of MULTIPLE senators.) The party is running things, not the public figures we elected. We like to talk about DEEP State, well what about DEEP Congress.
I'm not an attorney, and I am just relating my personal experience, however, for those with the requisite background -- is there a case to be made regarding McCain and others, regarding the legality of their decisions once their diagnosis is in place? I defer to those in the legal profession.
